Doing the articles on the website takes so much of my time that unfortunately responding to comments in a way that would give a thoughtful and considered answer just isn’t feasible.  However I read all the comments that people make and I’m always curious about the people behind them, where they are from and their lives.  So I thought I’d give a try at asking some of the regular visitors and commenters on the site  a bit about themselves and how they play FPL in a short interview.  Hopefully you will find it interesting and it will help start to establish a community of some sort.  First up is long time comments man Dickie Ray

Meet the Geeks – long time commenter on the site – Dickie Ray

Hi Ben (aka Dickie Ray).   You’ve been coming on the site for sometime.  Tell us a bit about yourself.

I’m 48-year-old computer geek in the USA north of Chicago and support Charlton Athletic.  I realize I could be their entire US fanbase.
How long have you been playing  FPL and what is your objective
This is my 4th year playing FPL and my biggest motivation is overall rank, though winning my work mini-league is important.
Lets have a look at  your team and your rank history?
Here’s Dickie Ray’s team as of Sunday morning GW20

Do you have an overall playing strategy?

I go toward established attackers and try to save money for them with a cheap defence.  Fixtures are more important for defense; form is more important for offense.  I don’t take too many hits – none yet this year – although I will for double game weeks.  I’m rarely first one to take a chance on a player and want to see points before bringing them into my side.  I map out all of my players’ upcoming fixtures and plan non-injury transfers in advance.
Do you play any other formats of the game or other fantasy sports?

No – FPL is the only game I play.  I don’t even play fantasy NFL because I hated waking up Tuesday morning desperate for a new running back.
Whats your best ever/ worst ever fantasy moment?

Best ever fantasy moments:  in 2013/14, around game week 30, when Luis Suarez was healthy, there was a brilliant DGW and I scored 154.  Also, winning my work mini-league last year by 2 points despite a flagging finish.  Worst ever fantasy moment:  besides this GW?  Maybe using my wildcard in GW4 of my first season in 2012/13 to shift only 4 players and wishing I hadn’t the rest of the season.
Your favourite fantasy player or player who consistently has let you down

I held Eden Hazard through his ebbs and flows the last 2 seasons.  He earned a lot of points for me and it frustrated my mini-league opponents.  It did take me until GW9 this year to finally dump him.  But YYT has let me down consistently.  This year, I held him for 5 weeks and he averaged like 3 points.
Do you have a twitter handle for other geeks to follow you?

I don’t have a twitter handle and no blog.  The best way to get a hold of me about FPL is in the comments on FantasyFootballGeek.co.uk
Thanks very much Ben.  Keep coming to the site and commenting and good luck for the rest of the season
