Euro 2016 fantasy football – a quick note on the upcoming knockouts

Euro 2016

Here’s a quick Euro 2016 fantasy football article where we give you a quick note on what we are planning for the knockouts.  We look at the fixtures as well as a quick roundup of the rules for the McDonalds, Sun and Telegraph format regarding the transfers for this round.  We also tell you about the FFGeek teams progress

Euro 2016 fantasy football – a quick note on the upcoming knockouts

The fixtures

Firstly here are the fixtures from the BBC website

euro2016fixturesRd16

So you can see that we’ve got to Saturday 14.00 UK time to do transfers before the round of 16 starts

The transfer rules for the knockout phases

McDonalds format

Here’s the transfers rules.

Number of free transfers
Group stage: one per matchday
Round of 16: unlimited
Quarter-finals: 4
Semi-finals: 6
Final: 6

You are deducted four points for every transfer you make above the available free transfers for a matchday.

So unlimited transfers before the deadline on Saturday.  You may also have a wildcard still.  I still have one and will probably use it before the quarter finals.  If you don’t you may need to think about who will win the ties in your transfer plans.

Substitutions and captain changes continue as per the knockouts

The Sun Dream Team

Here’s the rules as they relate to Phase 4 which is the knockout rounds

EURO DREAM TEAM GAME PHASES
Euro Dream Team will be split into three phases, which will cover all matches in Euro 2016 as per the below:

Phase 4 – matches scheduled to be played between 25 June and 10 July inclusive consisting of 15 matches. They are all the knock-out stages of the Tournament.

MAKING TRANSFERS
Transfers can be made between the beginning of the current phase and the beginning of the following phase.
During phase four you may make up to eleven transfers to your team(s).

I’m not quite sure if that means you can make transfers before the knockout round starts or whether you have to wait for the Switzerland v Poland game kicks off?  Any comments welcome here

Telegraph fantasy football

Again the Telegraph is light years ahead of both the above formats in terms of clarity.  Here’s the transfer rules:

Transfers will close briefly following the conclusion of the group stage but then a second amnesty will open at midday on Thursday, June 22, 2016, meaning you can change your entire team at that point if you like. This will run until the first kick-off on Saturday, June 25, 2016.
Another 20 transfers will then be made available for you to use during the knockout stage of the tournament.

Transfers can be made between matches, so any players transferred in will start scoring from the next kick-off.

The FFGeek article plans and progress in each format

So I’ll begin writing articles on each format tonight.  There will be separate articles for each format covering player selection and some thoughts on approach for that format. I’m not sure at this stage how my team before the first game in the round of 16 will be posted.  It maybe on the website it may just be on twitter.   There will also be a new poll at some stage on peoples transfer targets.

Here’s how the FFGeek teams are doing in terms of overall rank:

McDonalds format – 25k out of 1.3m teams.

Sun Dream Team – 25,135 (not sure how many teams)

Telegraph fantasy football – 4,615 (not sure how many teams)
