Euro 2016 fantasy football tips – McDonalds wildcard and transfer talk

Euro 2016

Here’s our Euro 2016 fantasy football tips article where we discuss the McDonalds format.  We are at the end of what they call the strangely named Matchday 2 ( ie the end of the 2nd round of Group stage matches).  So now we have the option of a transfer or to use the wildcard which could be used at anytime over the tournament.  We discuss the potential use of our wildcard and/or transfer options

Euro 2016 fantasy football tips – McDonalds wildcard and transfer talk

Transfer vs Wildcard

So at the end of the 2nd round of Group stage matches (known as Match day 2) then you will have the ability yo use a free transfer (plus a 4 point hit for other transfers if desired).

Here’s the transfer rules:

You can select up to three players from a single team during the group phase. This will increase to four players for the round of 16, followed by five players for the quarter-finals, six for the semi-finals and eight for the final.

Unlimited transfers can be made at no cost between group and knockout stages.

So here’s a few relevant points to remember before you go ahead and make a transfer:

  • There’s also a wildcard that can be used at any time (assuming you haven’t used it already)
  • You can also make unlimited changes your team after the 3rd round Group stages before the knockout stages
  • You will be able to see the lineup of tonights games before making your transfer or wildcard decision.  That maybe particularly relevant for the French team who have a big squad and a coach obviously not afraid to make changes given his rotation of Pogba and Griezmann in the last game
  • That game starts at 20.00 UK time so you have until then

So if you’re like me you’re wondering whether to use your wildcard now due to potential rotation or to keep it for the round before the quarter finals if results don’t go as expected

So here’s some thoughts:

  • Only Italy are guaranteed to win their Group.  Winning the Group benefits your knock out draw.  In theory then the game will mean something to every team except maybe Italy
  • The possibility of players with yellow cards being rested is real as yellow cards continue to some future stage in the knockouts
  • Price rises will occur after the Group stages.  I’be heard some chat the the rises won’t be significant based on previous years but that is not guaranteed.  That could mean rises for Payet and Rami making you hold on even if they don’t start.  On the other side players who have failed in Muller, Lewandoski and Gotze could drop if they fail again in the 3 round of Group stages

So what are my plans?

At the moment my thoughts are to check the French lineup tonight and then decide whether to Wildcard.  Payet, Giroud and Rami all being rotated isn’t totally out of the question and would put me over the edge.  In that case I would wildcard.

Here’s my team and a comment on each individual apart:

euroMcDsEndofGroupStage2

McGovern – unlikely to get a CS against Germany but a reserve so no issue

Giaccherini – Italy have won the Group so could easily be rested

Hector – Germany have everything to play for

Juanfran – Spain haven’t won the Group but could rotate Juanfran as have Bellerin and Azpilicueta

Rami – Could be rotated for Mangala.  We will see the lineup

Strinic – Croatia have everything to play for.  Strinic is on a yellow though

Payet – could be rotated after an emotional 2 games.  We will see the lineup

Alli – talk of rotation after ineffective performances

Forsberg – Should be safe with Sweden everything to play for

Gotze – possible rotation due to ineffectiveness

Ronaldo – will play with Portugal needing to win

Patricio – as for Ronaldo

Hrosovsky – dropped so a big risk

Lewandoski – Poland have everything to play for so will play

Giroud has a yellow and could be rotated.  We will see the lineup.

So potential rotations are apart from the French players Hrosovsky, Gotze, Alli, Strinic, Juanfran and Giaccherini.  Add to that the 3 French players and you have 9 players at risk.  However seeing the lineup will mean the risk is down to the 6 above.  Giaccherini and Hrosovsky look big risks.  The others could go either way.  However even if Rami and Payet are rotated will I take the medicine of price rises especially when the amount .

If the French game has all 3 players.  I could just replace Hrosovsky with team mate Duda for the safe points.  Otherwise I could replace Alli with either of Draxler or Weiss or Coman if Coman starts for the French.  No certainties yet

So I won’t do a draft transfer team as yet.  I will do that after the French team is announced and then tweet the changes whether that be a wildcard or a single transfer

Draft wildcard team

Here’s a draft WC team.  Even if Payet and Rami aren’t in the team I would probably keep them for price rises.  However if they aren’t then that’s more reason to wildcard as I know I’m  already using 2 of my bench with 6 dodgy players to come.  Obviously I wouldn’t play 5-4-1 it’s just how it ended up in the last round.

Hope you found that useful.  At some point over the day I’ll tweet the team I end up with.  It maybe after the France lineup is announced though.  If you’re interested you’ll have to follow me on twitter @fantasyfoot20  Click here to go straight to my twitter account
