Fantasy premier league – “ones to watch” midfielders – GW16 Buy Hold or Sell

Fantasy Premier League, Player Rankings

Here’s the GW16 “ones to watch” for midfielders on the Barclays fantasy premier league  in the buy hold or sell format for GW16.  This will give the best midfield players at a variety of price ranges using a range of stats to make my case

Fantasy premier league – “ones to watch” midfielders – GW16 Buy Hold or Sell

I’ve provided the following stats to support the player choices and to guide you in your decisions.  I’ve now moved this to this year:

1.  Goals and assists this year.

2.  Time per point scored this year.  This is how many minutes it takes for a Barclays fantasy premier league point to be scored over the course of this season. The lower the better obviously.

3.  Rotation risk.  High, medium or low.  High is the greatest risk of rotation.

4.  Fixture ease ranking:  The link is at the bottom of the article but essentially I’ve ranked all the teams by the ease of the first 6 fixtures.  The team with the best ranking ie 1 will have the easiest next fixtures of any of the fantasy premier league teams over the next 6 games.

5.  Consistency:  The % of times that the player got a goal or assist  as a % of games played

6.  I’ve also ranked them in their categories as who I think is currently the best choice

7.  Last 5 return consistency rate:   Its now time to take into account recent form so I look at the amount of times a player has returned in the last 5 games played

8.  I’ve also add a couple of fixture punts from time to time.  These are people not showing great form or consistency who now have some excellent fixtures which you may want to roll the dice with

Midfielders

1.  Silva (£9.1m)

  • Goals and assists:  3 goals 3 assists.  Time per point scored:   13.7  mins .  Rotation risk: low.   fixture ease ranking: 4th.  Consistency 5/7   71%  Last 5 return consistency:  3/5

Back for the mid week champions league game with a goal.  Good time per point scored and consistency.  Easily the best overall underlying stats.  The only question is whether you double up with Aguero.  Risk whether he will start after starting against Bayern during the week

2.  Ramsey (£7.6m) HOLD

  • Goals and assists:  8 goals 5 assists.  Time per point scored:    12.1 mins .  Rotation risk: medium.   fixture ease ranking: 18th.  Consistency 9/15  60%  Last 5 return consistency:  2/5

Subbed in the Everton game and a bit of a drop in consistency.  Does make Arsenal more defensively vulnerable by playing so far forward but Wenger will find it hard to drop him for more defensive solidity.  Can score home and away due to ability to find space in the box and his energy on the break.  With more difficult fixtures coming up fantasy premier league managers may feel that Ozil is sufficient Arsenal exposure.  It would take a lot for me to ditch him given his price and ownership.  Showing some decent underlying shooting stats now.  Nothing on the creating chances stats though.

A goal and 3 bonus points against Everton thanks to Giroud’s airshot.  Now returned in his last 3 including 2 assists in Cardiff to help dispel his homer myth. Now starting to produce underlying shooting as well as creating chances stats.  Tricky fixtures next though

4.  Hazard (£9.8m) BUY

  • Goals and assists:  6 goals 6 assists.  Time per point scored:   13.6  mins .  Rotation risk: medium.   fixture ease ranking: 17th.  Consistency 6/15   40%  Last 5 return consistency:  3/5

Disappointed to see him starting against Steaua.  Would be a gut wrencher for all those looking forward to palace visiting Stamford Bridge.  It really is an ideal Hazard “flat track bully” fixture.  However he could be rested for the Cap One quarters instead.  Pretty inconsistent but that’s why you look forward to these games.  Despite all that he does have one of the better sets of underlying stats which also helps keep the faith.

5.  Nasri (£8.3m )  HOLD

  • Goals and assists:  4 goals 4 assists.  Time per point scored:  14.3  mins .  Rotation risk: medium  fixture ease ranking: 4th.  Consistency 7/15   47%          Last 5 consistency return rate:  1/5

Will be interesting to see his gametime with Silva back and Navas in good form.  Has been a bit inconsistent as Silvas replacement.  Personally I would switch to Silva as the additional cash isn’t that much.  With Silva starting at Bayern I may just hold for 1 more game for the “playing your old team” effect.

6.  Cabaye (£6.5m) HOLD (Suspended back GW17)

  • Goals and assists:  3 goals 4 assists.  Time per point scored:  17.1  mins .  Rotation risk: low  fixture ease ranking: 9th.  Consistency 7/13  54%          Last 5 consistency return rate:  3/5

Hopefully anyone who had him didn’t have him on the bench last week.  Played a little further forward than  he has done in front of Tiote and Anita.  Basically though still  Gerrard at a cheaper price with Remy on the end of his chances created rather than Suarez.  No underlying stats.  It’s all about set pieces.

7.  Mirallas (£7.2m) HOLD

  • Goals and assists:  2 goals 4 assists.  Time per point scored:  18.7  mins .  Rotation risk: low.   fixture ease ranking: 2nd.  Consistency 4/15   29%       Last 5 return consistency rate:  1/5

No returns in his last 4 and 1 return in his last 7.  This becomes a fixture and positional punt only now with terrible form and inconsistency.  While his underlying shooting stats have held his creating chances stats have fallen away.  One thing is sure if you own him don’t sell him this week.  Selling before a Fulham home game is far too risky

 8.  Fer (£5.9m) BUY

  • Goals and assists:  3 goals  2 assists.  Time per point scored:  21.0  mins .  Rotation risk: low  fixture ease ranking: 1.  Consistency 4/14   29%          Last 5 consistency return rate:  3/5

I had him as a fixture punt a couple of gameweeks ago and he’s come right with 3 goals and an assist in the last 5.  He’s not built on a season long foundation and has no underlying stats.  its a fixture and form punt.

9.  Lallana (£7.0m) HOLD

On a bit of a drought with none in his last 4.  That did include Arsenal Chelsea and Man City though.  Mixed fixtures on the horizon.  I would probably hold until after Cardiff away which is a good fixture.  Has the basics of an advanced  centralish position and can score and assist.  Underlying stats though have fallen away with the fixture difficulty

Good value pens and some set piece involvement are the positives here.  The negatives are gametime.  He has made an appearance in every game but only played more than 70 minutes in 8.  Played the full 90 against Steaua which has to make him a risk for Palace.  Still there’s no way I would sell him before that game

 11.  Coutinho (£8.6m) HOLD

It couldn’t be going any worse.  1 goal and 1 assist from 10 games and a time per minute scored in fantasy premier league nearly twice what he had last year plus 3 very tricky fixtures starting this week.  Add to that the loss of his favoured target last year of Sturridge.  I still believe he will turn it around though.  Lets not forget the impact he made last year.  Plus his underlying shooting and creating chances stats are very good.  At sometime they will turn into goals and assists.  I would hold, especially until after the Cardiff game

12.  Schurrle (£7.1m) – Punt

  • Goals and assists:  3 goals  0 assists.  Time per point scored:  14.4  mins .  Rotation risk: high  fixture ease ranking: 17th.  Consistency 2/12 17%          Last 5 consistency return rate:  2/5

time per fantasy premier league point scored of 14.4 mins looks fantastic.  Especially for the price.  However the game time risk is significant.  Should pay against Palace having only had 30 minutes of the bench midweek.   However the Stoke game was his first start in 6 and the Capital one quarters look a likely target as well.  Still has the basics of an advanced position and can score goals.  If you’re going to gamble home to Palace is the time to do so.

Gerrard (£9.0m) Sell

Out for 6 weeks

Budget midfielders

1.  Shelvy (£5.6m) BUY – 2 goals and 3 assists in his last 5 looks an excellent record.  Will it continue with bony and Michu back.  Laudrup will find it hard to drop him.  It will just be about how advanced his midfield position is.

2.  Bannan (£4.4m) HOLD – 1 goal and 1 assist in the 7 games since back.  Good fixtures.  Creates chances.

3.  Whittingham (£5.1m) HOLD –   Steady secure gametime position.  Has pens and  some set piece involvement.   1 return in his last 9 though.

4.  R Morrison (£5.1m) HOLD –  back from suspension and seems to have no gametime risk.  Slowed down the returns though with a only a goal and an assist in his last 6 but looks threatening

5.  Redmond £4.6m HOLD   –   Back in the first team with 3 assists in his first 5 games back which is a good return.  Has gametime issues though when Snodgrass and Pilkington return

6.  Barkley (£5.1m) HOLD – Excellent play not being translated into returns due to a little lacking in the final ball.  Incredibly not returned in 8 starts.  home t Fulham has to be a great time to put things right

7.  Amalfitano  (£5.1m) HOLD – No returns in 8. Subbed in GW15 but away to Cardiff is not the time to sell

8.  Ireland (£4.6m) BUY – bit of a punt on olding his place behind the striker but a very impressive display against Chelsea

9.  JWP (£4.3m) HOLD –   Alot of gametime recently but no returns in 5.  Great free kicks no getting returns but hard to see that not chaging.  will always be a ganetime risk though

10.  Januzaj (£4.9m) HOLD –    Has great potential but really rotation prone. 2 goals and 2 assists in the 9 games he has played is a good return though

11.  Brunt (£5.0m)  BUY – a goal and 2 assists in the 6 games since back from injury.  Good set piece involvement.

12.  Brady (£5.1m) HOLD –   On the bench against Swansea.  No returns in 5 appearances.  Pens and set piece only.  Maybe worth a bit more patience

13.  Pozuelo (£4.2m) BUY  –  lost his place after starting 4 consecutive games.    Will have gametime issues with Michu, Pablo and Bony back.  Very cheap

Kasami (£4.5m) SELL –  Lost his place.  tricky game next and maybe the time to sell.
