fantasy premier league – analysing the top point scorers of GW11

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s my analysis of the top point scorers of fantasy premier league GW11.  I’ve grouped them like a fantasy premier league team ie 2-5-5-3

Fantasy premier league top point scorers GW11

Krul

Produced a wonder performance under siege to keep a clean sheet against Spurs. It’s now 2 clean sheets in a row and  4 in total in 11 games but they’re still way too unpredictable and leak too many goals for them to be a defense worth investing in and he’s not exactly cheap either at £5.0m

Guzan

I could virtually repeat the same information here.  4 clean sheets in total including 2 consecutive clean sheets just completed.  A defence that concedes far too  many though and Guzan isn’t great value at £5.0m

Bardsley

A goal, clean sheet and maximum bonus for the man in from the cold after Di Canios departure.  Its the first clean sheet of the season and it was obtained, like Krul’s, under an absolute siege.  The defence has a long way to go before any investment could be considered.  It is worth keeping half an eye on though as Poyet had an excellent defensive record when manager of Brighton on  no budget.   Also, Bardsley can get the odd goal, as he got 3 in 2010/2011.

Skrtel

A goal and a clean sheet plus 1 bonus point in the 4-0 win over Fulham.  The first clean sheet after 7 attempts.  This is just as well as no clean sheet against Fulham on the back of that run would definitely seen massive selling of Liverpools defensive fantasy premier league assets. Selection of CBs has been unpredictable by Rodgers.  Even the fact that Skrtel is in the team and started the last 9 is rather strange after he was left in the cold last year.  I still think the Liverpool defence is worth fantasy premier league investment  despite only 4 clean sheets.   I would probably go for Johnson as I don’t trust Rodgers CB selection.  Add to that the first naming of a back 4 in a while against Fulham potentially reducing CB positions.

W Brown

Same comments as Bardsley except Brown has no goal scoring track record

Baines

A clean sheet and 2 bonus points for the fantasy premier league’s most expensive defender at £7.7m.  The clean sheet record is good at 6 including the last 3 games.  However you can get that from Distin at £2.7m cheaper.  Unbelievably, he’s only returned in 1 game, that being the 2 fantastic goals at West Ham, hasn’t got an assist and Coleman has better creating chances stats.  I like Baines alot as a fantasy premier league player but the price is too high

Hazard

A penalty and an assist plus maximum bonus for Hazard against WBA. Back to what he’s doing best, punishing teams at Stamford Bridge.  Inconsistent but a reasonably certain selection having started every game except 1 in fantasy premier league.   Chelsea have 3 away games in 4 with the home game being the inform Southampton defence.  Do you trust him away from home in those games or is he better saved for the palace home game in GW16 is the question which i’m not sure of at the moment.

Lallana

Had a slow start with 4 games without a return but now its 5 games in his last 7. Underlying stats are pretty ordinary though.  Does have some very tough fixtures next with Arsenal and Chelsea away.    I’m not sure if I missed the Hull game that I would be investing now with those 2 next.

Gerrard (injury doubt)

After not returning in his opening 5 games he’s now returned in 5 of his last 6.  I think you can just about sustain a midfielder on set pieces and pens alone and not have any shots in the box production.  That’s helped when you have 2 strikers like Sturridge and Suarez to get you pens and free kicks.  The price for that at £8.9m though is a little eye watering.  That’s the only question.  Probably too eye watering for me.

Bacuna

A fantasy premier league midfielder who’s playing at RB and has 2 goals and an assist in 8 starts.  The 2 goals have come from sweet direct free kicks.  I just doubt that these will continue and then you’ve got a fantasy premier league midfielder playing as a defender.  That just doesn’t seem to make sense.

Snodgrass

Crystal Palace H, Sunderland A and Swansea H would be a chance for some goals you’d think?  However this is Norwich were talking about. Before the 3 goals against West Ham they had scored 6 goals in 10 games.  Still if you believe in fixture punts then this is an opportunity.  Snodgrass is heavily involved in the attack and dominates set pieces.  Still for me 1 goal in 9 appearances in a struggling team just isn’t worth the punt.

Suarez

Suarez is undoubtedly a buy with 8 goals and 3 assists in 6 games and with Aguero the best underlying stats.  Only shadow is that he’s had a pretty easy run with Sunderland Palace and Fulham in those 6 games but he is proven quality and should shine irrespective of fixtures

Lambert

Another homer with all his returns at home apart from the opening day pen at WBA. However 4 goals and 3 assists in 11 games is not a bad return.  Same comments as Lallana, do you want to buy now with Arsenal and Chelsea away next.

Bony

2 goals and the maximum bonus against Stoke in the 3-3 shootout.  Has only started 5 games in 11 as Laudrup really seems to have a problem with him despite him scoring 4 goals and an assist in 500 odd minutes.  Has really good underlying stats as well, just a little wasteful.  Fulham away next is very tempting but hard to include him with the other alternatives.
