Fantasy premier league best defenders and defences GW13

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s my view for GW13 on the fantasy premier league best defenders and defences.  I’ve used a number of stats, actual and underlying.  There’s not enough stats to differentiate between home and away defences so this is a blended version.  I’ve also added the premium attacking defender and the value defender.

I’ve provided the information in a very simple table form with a few general notes on the table and an attempted explanation for any surprises.  I’ve tried to sacrifice some value and attacking where there isn’t a decent amount of gametime security.  Obviously in the top 4 challenging teams the squad sizes and the number of games sees that rotation can be a risk so it’s impossible to be 100%.

Notes

Obviously this is just the ranking on games played and doesn’t take into account future fixtures although you may want to take a longer term view with defenders anyway.  Use my fixture ease table which is meant for attacking fixtures but is a reasonable proxy for defensive fixtures.

What doesn’t show is how far apart the front 3 of the 2 Manchester clubs and Arsenal are ahead statistically of the other teams.

Smalling and Van Dijk are injury doubts so need to be monitored.  Watford look the best cheapie option.  Villa are higher than I would have thought and thats due to underlying stats rather than actual.  It was interesting how Remi Garde got a clean sheet (albeit a very lucky one) against Man City.  West Ham and WBA are 2 sides with good clean sheet rankings but have done so with backs to the wall performances that mean alot of shots were conceded which lowered the ranking.  Chelsea incredibly are 16th but their stats are dire.  Evertons ranking is a little false as they had such a hard start to the season and I expect them to climb a little

Looking for value Moreno at £4.8m and Nyom at £4.6m plus Walker at £5.0m all look good value.  Also Souare of Palace at £4.5m with good fixtures coming up.
