Fantasy premier league best defenders and defences GW14

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s my view for GW14 on the fantasy premier league best defenders and defences.  I’ve used a number of stats, actual and underlying.  There’s not enough stats to differentiate between home and away defences so this is a blended version.  I’ve also added the premium attacking defender and the value defender and also given you the value of the player as at Thursday morning

I’ve provided the information in a very simple table form with a few general notes on the table and an attempted explanation for any surprises.  I’ve tried to sacrifice some value and attacking where there isn’t a decent amount of gametime security.  Obviously in the top 4 challenging teams the squad sizes and the number of games sees that rotation can be a risk so it’s impossible to be 100%.

Notes

Obviously this is just the ranking on games played and doesn’t take into account future fixtures although you may want to take a longer term view with defenders anyway.  Use my fixture ease table which is meant for attacking fixtures but is a reasonable proxy for defensive fixtures.

What doesn’t show is how far apart the front 3 of the 2 Manchester clubs and Arsenal are ahead statistically of the other teams.

A couple of interesting things are happening at the moment.  The injury to Arsenal CDM Coquelin has cast some doubt on their future defensive solidity.  Away to a now defensive Norwich should be an interesting first up test.

Man City are also an interesting case.  Kompany is injured and Hart possibly out too.  Man City have yet to get a clean sheet in the league without Komapny and have got 7 clean sheets in 8 games with him.  That says alot.

A few form comments:  5 clean sheets in the last 6 for Stoke shows them as the form defensive team.  Southampton 2 in their last 3 and Man Utd 4 in their last 5.  Spurs despite their rating have conceded 1 goal in all the last 4.  Liverpool no clean sheets in the last 4 and WBA none in the last 3.
