Fantasy premier league best defenders and defences

Fantasy Premier League, Player Rankings

Here’s my view on the fantasy premier league best defenders and defences.  I’ve used a number of stats, actual and underlying.  There’s not enough stats to differentiate between home and away defences so this is a blended version.  I’ve also added the premium attacking defender and the value defender.

I’ve provided the information in a very simple table form with a few general notes on the table and an attempted explanation for any surprises.  I’ve tried to sacrifice some value and attacking where there isn’t a decent amount of gametime security.  Obviously in the top 4 challenging teams the squad sizes and the number of games sees that rotation can be a risk so it’s impossible to be 100%.

Notes

Firstly its worth noting that Koscielny was injured for the Bayern game so look out for that.  Interesting how strong Watford showed up considering how good value say Nyom is at £4.5m.  Moreno at £4.8m for Liverpool also stands out.  I was surprised at how high Villa was but I think I’ve said that they do have some ok underlying stats which gives hope that a pretty dire defensive record will improve.  Remi Garde it should be noted though didn’t have that great a defensive record for Lyon in relation to their finishing position at least.  West Ham and WBA were lower than I expected but both have conceded alot of shots and goals to that extent. WBA’s only good defensive stat to some extent is their clean sheets.  I don’t think Chelsea’s position is a surprise.  Their defensive stats are quite frankly terrible and if you saw some of my tweets from Skys Monday night football you’ll appreciate that.  Everton haven’t been that great defensively and that shows from their stats but it has alot to do with some very difficult games.

The table doesn’t tell everything from a point oof view of selection of your FPL team.  However the fixture ease table in an earlier post does give a proxy for defensive fixtures
