An introduction

My intention at the moment is to take the fixture difficulty ranking from the Official FPL site with some slight adjustments. That schedule doesn’t differentiate between attack and defence and is an overall ranking. You will see their fixture difficulty when you look at a player in detail on the FPL site.

The schedule below uses the official rankings to rank them from easiest at the top to hardest at the bottom. The order of the teams is for GW4-9. The figure in the right hand column is the ranking from from GW4-6

So here are attacking and defensive player suggestions for the following teams. That is Arsenal, C Palace, Everton and Man City.

The stats will be fairly basic and from last season with some commentary about GW1 and GW2 for this season thrown in.

Arsenal

Nothing helpful came from the game vs West Ham in terms of security of selection.  Ozil had a cold apparently and was absent so, if true, it still makes it difficult to ascertain what the front 4 is.

I think there is minutes doubt over Iwobi and he was subbed at half time for Lacazette.  Ramsey played CAM but the Ozil absence clouds that long term position and Aubameyang didn’t play 90 minutes.  Mkhitaryan though has played 90 minutes in all 3 games and seems the safest bet.

£7.1m Mid Mkhitaryan started 9 games games plus 2 as sub for Arsenal in 17/18 and 11 starts plus 4 as sub for Man Utd in 17/18. His total goals were 3 and 9 assists at an overall PP90 of 5.6.  So far though it’s still been 2 blanks against Man City and West Ham and a goal and assist v Chelsea.  He’s been ok in the blanks but fantastic v Chelsea aided by the Alonso disappearing act at LB.  Predicting his output is a gamble but the fixtures and the price mitigate that to  an extent

£10.9m Fwd Aubameyang started 12 games plus 1 as sub for 10 goals and 4 assists for a PP90 of 7.4 in 17/18.  The last thing you want to do with an £10.9m player is to have to take a leap of faith.  3 blanks to start the season plus being pushed left when Lacazette comes on and to top it all off a 74 minute substitution v West Ham makes it a tricky proposition.  You have to believe that he’s a proven goalscorer with 10 goals and 4 assists in those games last season and a fantastic record at Dortmund.

In defence both £5.5m full backs Monreal and Bellerin are good picks from an attacking point of view

Crystal Palace

On the attacking options there’s only 1 and that’s £7.0m forward Zaha

£7.0m Fwd Zaha started 28 games plus 1 as sub for 9 goals and 7 assists for a PP90 of 4.8 in 17/18.  He’s played 90 minutes in all 3 games this season and that’s what you should be getting from the undoubted star of the team.  2 goals in those 3 games but no sign of a bonus point. He only got 8 bonus points for 9 goals and 7 assists last season.

There’s 2 clear options in defence. The cheap option of £4.1m Wan Bissaka and then the attacking option of £5.5m Van Aanholt. Who you go for depends on how much money you want to invest in attacking potential over and above clean sheet points.  I’ve excluded £4.5m Schlupp as I’m concerned his substitution for Meyer could be a sign of things to come.

Huddersfield (A)
Newcastle (H)
Bournemouth (A)
Wolves (H)
Everton (A)

Everton

With the Richarlison suspended the options look like Tosun and the man set from from the shackles of Big Sam, Theo Walcott.

£7.0m fwd Tosun scored 5 goals in 12 starts plus 2 as sub for a points per 90 mins of 5.0 in 17/18.  2 assists in 3 games and has been subbed between 74 and 83 mins in the 3 games.  The underlying stats have been pretty ordinary and no sign of a bonus point as yet.

£6.7m mid Walcott scored 3 goals and 3 assists in 13 starts plus 1 as sub for a PP90 of 4.6 in 17/18.  2 goals and an assist in the first 3 games but only really the Southampton game that produced good underlying stats where he was fantastic.  Although to be fair 2 sendings off in those 2 games can’t have helped.  In Richarlison’s absence looks the best option

No one in defence for me at the moment which is too expensive and/or uncertain on gametime plus has yet to register a clean sheet.

Crystal Palace (H)

Man City

I think City is fraught with uncertainty at the moment in the midfield.  Mahrez and Sane don’t seem to have the confidence of Pep and I’ve just left out Sterling for the moment due to price.

£7.5m Mid Bernardo Silva started 15 games plus 20 as sub for 6 goals and 5 assists for a PP90 of 6.7. The price for Bernardo is the attraction.  His position at RM isn’t really helpful though as was the 60 minute substitution v Wolves.  Fixtures and price are the attraction although he produced returns last season at a decent rate.  Like any City player minutes are the risk.

£11.1m Fwd Aguero started 22 games plus 3 as sub for 21 goals and 6 assists for a PP90 of 7.8. He should have pens.  Just 1 returning game out of the first 3 although that was a hat trick.  We all know his quality it’s just the minutes risk that comes with it.

£8.4m Mid David Silva started 28 games plus 1 as sub for 9 goals and 11 assists at a PP90 of 6.3.  With De Bruyne out you’d think he will play alot of minutes in the near future as the creative force in the team.  Scored from a free kick in GW2 after being injured for GW1.  Was quiet along with an unusually subdued City team v Wolves.

Only 1 defensive option and that’s attacking LB £6.3m Benjamin Mendy

Newcastle (H)
Fulham (H)
Cardiff (A)
Brighton (H)
Liverpool (A)
Burnley (H)
