fantasy premier league best midfielders gameweek 23 “ones to watch”

Fantasy Premier League, Player Rankings

Here’s our fantasy premier league best midfielders gameweek 23 article where we outline the best midfielders for the gameweek and beyond. There’s a table of stats with a key underneath which gives enough information to help you make a choice over which midfielder you may want to transfer although I have notionally ranked them. It’s important though to read the narrative with the next 6 fixtures coming up as this is where I highlight their prospects and cautionary factors.

Just to let you know I’ve changed the recent form table shown as “last 6 games”. It now shows the consistency rate ie the number of games that a goal or assist is returned in the last 6 games played. I’ve put next to that the FPL points in the last 6 games

Minute per FPL points: This is how many minutes it took to get an FPL point. The lower the better

Consistency: the % of games that a player returned a goal or assist. Sub appearances are counted

10+ point %: The % of games 10 FPL points or more are scored

Fixt ease: The ease of attacking fixtures coming up. Next 6/next 3

Last 6 games: This is the consistency rate above for the last 6 games and the FPL pts for the last 6 games

Undlyg stats rank: I’ve ranked the players according to their underlying shooting and creating chances stats

So Ozil and Payet in 4 categories, KDB and Antonio in 3 categories, Mahrez and YYT in 2.  Willian, Barkley and Silva in 1

Ozil

The Arsenal CAM has been consistency itself and has the backing of the best creating chance stats.  He should be fit for Chelsea after missing out last week.  Has gone 2 games without a return but that’s hardly reason to panic.  Has set piece responsibility

Chelsea (H)
Southampton (H)
Bournemouth (A)
Leicester (H)
Man Utd (A)
Swansea (H)

Payet

The West Ham LAM started the season fantastically and returned to that form with the game against Bournemouth.  Does tend to drift into central positions with Cresswell at LB providing the attacking width on the left.  Again more of an assist based player with only Ozil and KDB haveing better creating chances stats.  Lack of shooting stats and the ability of his strikers to put the chances away is the risk.  Good fixtures after the Man City game.  Has set piece responsibility.

Man City (H)
Aston Villa (H)
Southampton (A)
Norwich (A)
Sunderland (H)
Spurs (H)

Antonio

The West Ham attacking midfielder really looks like a player who likes to get into the box.  The risks with him are lack of data as he’s only just started to get the nod for games.  He also has little premier league experience and Lanzini who comes back in a couple odf weeks could put his gametime at risk.

Man City (H)
Aston Villa (H)
Southampton (A)
Norwich (A)
Sunderland (H)
Spurs (H)

De Bruyne

The Man City RM is a very inconsistent but explosive player who really has most of his returns at home.   Plays on the right but can drift inside but for this price you want better consistency and someone who is in a more influential position  than relying on crosses into the centre.  Most FPL managers held him for the 2 home games which saw only 1 assist.  It’s also just that 1 assist in the last 4 games.  Has some set piece responsibility.

West Ham (A)
Sunderland (A)
Leicester (H)
Spurs (H)
Newcastle (A)
Liverpool (A)

Mahrez

No returns in his last 5 games including 2 missed pens and he has now had that responsibility removed although does have some set piece responsibility. His underlying stats in recent games have also fallen off a cliff so the slow down is no fluke.  Those 5 games have included Liverpool, Man City and Spurs which hasn’t helped but also Villa and Bournemouth although he should have scored pens against both of those.  Is this the end that is the question?  The stats aren’t helpful thats for sure.  There are 2 home games next but then Man City and Arsenal away.  Those 2 games are natural exit points

Stoke (H)
Liverpool (H)
Man City (A)
Arsenal (A)
Norwich (H)
West Brom (H)

YaYa Toure

The Man City CM did get a rest in the rout of Crystal Palace.  Not a fashionable choice this season but the facts are that he does have reasonble consistency, form and fixtures.  Not ideal having a player  who comes from such a deep position and certainly his underlying stats are questionable at best.  Man City’s away form also doesn’t help with 2 away games coming up.

West Ham (A)
Sunderland (A)
Leicester (H)
Spurs (H)
Newcastle (A)
Liverpool (A)

Firmino

The Liverpool AM, come false 9 is one for the fixture buffs only as his consistency is horrible. Anyone who has Norwich, Sunderland and Villa in the next 4 has going to get attention.  Coutinho back in a couple of weeks could dilute his returns

Norwich (A)
Leicester (A)
Sunderland (H)
Aston Villa (A)
Everton (H)
Man City (H)

Silva

Anyone who is a CAM sitting behind Sergio Aguero is going to be an option.  His 12 point haul against Palace was welcome as to be honest his recent form has been pretty horrible before that with 8 games seeing only 1 assist.  Has some set piece responsibility

West Ham (A)
Sunderland (A)
Leicester (H)
Spurs (H)
Newcastle (A).
Liverpool (A)

Willian

The Chelsea AM has alot of set piece responsibility for Chelsea and has been a strong form player.  Whether he has the consistency and underlying stats to keep that up remains to be seen.  Arsenal away is not a natural buying point though

Arsenal (A)
Watford (A)
Man Utd (H)
Newcastle (H)
Southampton (A)
Norwich (A)

Barkley

Not in the table above but I thought I would mention him.  Inconsustent player with little in the way of underlying stats.  However the immediate fixtures are excellent and as a CAM in such a strong attacking side deserves some consideration

Swansea (H)
Newcastle (H)
Stoke (A)
West Brom (H)
Liverpool (A)
Aston Villa (A)
