fantasy premier league best midfielders gameweek 24 “ones to watch”

Fantasy Premier League, Player Rankings

Here’s our fantasy premier league best midfielders gameweek 24 article where we outline the best midfielders for the gameweek and beyond. There’s a table of stats with a key underneath which gives enough information to help you make a choice over which midfielder you may want to transfer although I have notionally ranked them. It’s important though to read the narrative with the next 6 fixtures coming up as this is where I highlight their prospects and cautionary factors.

Just to let you know that I haven’t adjusted the rankings for the blank GW27 or the potential DGW25.  I think until things are more certain it’s a case of looking at the stats and making that adjustment.  I have highlighted which players are involved in those teams.  If you’re unsure of the basics here’s the link

So Payet amd Firmino in 4 categories, Ozil and Antonio in 3 categories, Mahrez in 2. YYT, Sanchez, Alli, Arnautovic, Willian, Barkley and Silva in 1

Firmino

Has a blank GW27 and  a DGW when announced.  The Liverpool false 9, CAM or AM has been explosive but inconsistent.  Currently playing as a false 9 with his movement and technical ability favouring him over Benteke.  Great underlying stats back up his returns.  You just have to ride the roller coaster.  The risks are Coutinho’s effect on his returns when he’s fit and to a lesser extent Sturridge.  I say lesser extent because there has to be some doubt if Sturridge will ever be fit

Leicester (A)
Sunderland (H)
Aston Villa (A)

Man City (H)
Crystal Palace (A)

Payet

The West Ham LAM started the season fantastically and returned to that form with the game against Bournemouth when coming back from injury. Tends to drift into central positions with Cresswell at LB providing the attacking width. More of an assist based player with only Ozil and KDB having better creating chances stats. Lack of shooting stats and the ability of his strikers to put the chances away is the risk although Valencia showed this wasn’t an issue. Villa , Norwich and Sunderland in the next 4 doesn’t get any better as far as fixtures are concerned.    Has set piece responsibility.

Aston Villa (H)
Southampton (A)
Norwich (A)
Sunderland (H)
Spurs (H)
Everton (A)

Ozil

The Arsenal CAM has set piece responsibility and is in the prime position to get returns from a very attacking Arsenal team.  No returns in his last 3 are the negatives although the underlying stats which have been fantastic all season have been strong still in recent matches.  It is also worth noting that many players go through a short spell of blanks and recover

Southampton (H)
Bournemouth (A)
Leicester (H)
Man Utd (A)
Swansea (H)
Spurs (A)

Antonio

The West Ham attacking midfielder has shown has ability to get into the box. The risks are you’re putting alot on a small amount of data for a player with little premier league experience and gametime risk when Lanzini returns

Aston Villa (H)
Southampton (A)
Norwich (A)
Sunderland (H)
Spurs (H)
Everton (A)

Mahrez

An assist and a return to form for Leicester in the 3-0 win over Stoke gave some respite after 5 games without a return which included 2 missed pens.  That has meant that pens have now been removed from him. The recent underlying stats gave fallen away drastically to show that the slowdown in returns is no fluke. Man City and Arsenal away maybe a natural exit point

Liverpool (H)
Man City (A)
Arsenal (A)
Norwich (H)
West Brom (H)
Watford (A)

Sanchez

The Arsenal AM has returned from injury and played 34 minutes as a sub against Chelsea.  There’s no doubting his class but he has been very inconsistent.  The positives though is that he can score big at any time and has great underlying shooting stats

Southampton (H)
Bournemouth (A)
Leicester (H)
Man Utd (A)
Swansea (H)
Spurs (A)

Alli

The Spurs CAM just keeps on getting better and that has been reflected not only in returns but some of the best underlying shooting stats in recent games.  Great value for a CAM position in a top 4 challenging team.  Norwich next is a great time to buy

Norwich (A)
Watford (H)
Man City (A)
Swansea (H)
West Ham (A)
Arsenal (H)

Silva

Has a blank GW27 and an unannounced GW27.  The Man City CAM is currently sitting behind a Sergio Aguero in great form but just hasn’t been consistent.  The underlying stats have also been underwhelming.   You’re just banking on his known class and his position in such an attacking team.  Has some set piece responsibility

Sunderland (A)
Leicester (H)
Spurs (H)
– Gameweek 27 –
Liverpool (A)
Aston Villa (H)

Barkley

Has a blank GW27 and a DGW to be announced.   With Barkley you’re relying on his CAM position in such an attacking side as Everton.  Plus the fixtures are good.  He’s a very inconsistent player and has little in the way of underlying stats to give you hope that this isn’t a blip.

Newcastle (H)
Stoke (A)
West Brom (H)
– Gameweek 27 –
Aston Villa (A)
West Ham (H)
