FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE BEST MIDFIELDERS GW3 – “ONES TO WATCH”

So were continuing to base our stats and ratings on a mixture of last years and this years stats.  Once we get to about gameweek 6 then we’ll start focusing on this years stats primarily.  So at this stage it’s harder to rank the players than it will be in 5 or 6 games. However we have notionally ranked them but the idea is to give you enough information for you to make your own decision. I’ve decided to keep the number of players to 10 but just couldn’t this week and have made a list of 11. That does tend to mean that the players are at the higher value end.

Here’s the table of stats with a key underneath:

fpl...gw3mids12w

Key:

FPL pts pm: The minutes it takes a player to take earn an FPL point. The lower the better
Consistency: the % of games that a player gets a goal or assist
10+ pts %: the percentage of games that the players has got 10 or more points
Mins per G/A: The amount of minutes played it takes to get a goal or assist
Fixt ease 6/3: The teams rank of fixtures in terms of easiness over the next 6 and 3 fixtures
16/17 pts: The FPL points so far this season

HAZARD

Despite what Burnley did to Liverpool it’s still a good fixture and Hazard has looked like the player he was in 14/15.  A goal and an assist to start and excellent underlying stats back that up as well.  Good first couple of fixtures then they get a bit mixed.  Also has pens.  That may become important given the penalties for grappling at corners on the weekend.

Next 6 fixtures

Burnley (H)
Swansea (A)
Liverpool (H)
Arsenal (A)
Hull (A)
Leicester (H)

MAHREZ

Just the 1 goal in GW1 against Hull but was  excellent in the Arsenal game and the underlying stats also look good.  Fixtures are a little mixed though.  Also has pens.

Swansea (H)
Liverpool (A)
Burnley (H)
Man Utd (A)
Southampton (H)
Chelsea (A)

BARKLEY

After a disappointing season in 15/16 it’s hard to have faith. He’s started well though with a goal and an assist in his first 2 games.  Set pieces, a central attacking position and some good underlying stats plus fixtures which couldn’t be much better are the attraction

Stoke (H)
Sunderland (A)
Middlesbrough (H)
Bournemouth (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Man City (A)

DE BRUYNE

Only 1 assist involvement in 6 goals so far which is pretty disappointing.  Certainly not as advanced as you would like but set piece share at least gives home something to hold on to.  Things may change if Nolito and Sterling become better prospects.  Fixtures a little mixed.

West Ham (H)
Man Utd (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Swansea (A)
Spurs (A)
Everton (H)

SANCHEZ

4 goals for Arsenal and no goal or assist despite starting as a striker.  To be honest he couldn’t have been much quieter.  However the fixtures have turned for the better and he does have the potential to score big in streaks

Watford (A)
Southampton (H)
Hull (A)
Chelsea (H)
Burnley (A)
Swansea (H)

REDMOND

Been a constant threat since playing as a striker.  Could have any any amount of goals against Watford and looked threatening against United.  It will be interesting to see if imminent new attacking midfielder Sofiane Boufal changes that

Sunderland (H)
Arsenal (A)
Swansea (H)
West Ham (A)
Leicester (A)
Burnley (H)

TADIC

While Redmond maybe the goal threat, Tadic is the set piece artist and chance creator.  He’s been creating chances galore since the start of the season but has just not seen them finished off.  Has also got forward and looked threatening in front of goal.  Hard to think after 2 blanks that the returns aren’t coming

Sunderland (H)
Arsenal (A)
Swansea (H)
West Ham (A)
Leicester (A)
Burnley (H)

TOWNSEND

The Palace attacking midfielder has carried on his Spurs and Newcastle shoot on sight policy at Palace.   Still no returns but fixtures are excellent

Bournemouth (H)
Middlesbrough (A)
Stoke (H)
Sunderland (A)
Everton (A)
West Ham (H)

LAMELA

Lamela always threatened last season but didn’t quite deliver.  He has started well with a goal in the opening game and looked the pick of the Spurs midfielders to date by getting in advanced positions

Liverpool (H)
Stoke (A)
Sunderland (H)
Middlesbrough (A)
Man City (H)
West Brom (A)

FIRMINO

Another with 2 games and no return but has played reasonably in both games.  Underlying stats are also reasonably good.  Fixtures couldn’t be worse but Liverpool at their best are a very dangerous attacking proposition against any team and that is what you’re holding onto with Firmino

Spurs (A)
Leicester (H)
Chelsea (A)
Hull (H)
Swansea (A)
Man Utd (H)

OZIL

Last years Mr Consistency changed the game in his 18 minutes on the pitch against Leicester.  A reminder that he is a proven performer and assist king.  Has primary set piece responsibility

Watford (A)
Southampton (H)
Hull (A)
Chelsea (H)
Burnley (A)
Swansea (H)
