CAPOUE

You know it’s going to be an unpredictable season when a guy who got one assist in the entirety of last season and has scored 1 goal in his last 57 games before this season is the top point scorer in FPL.  He has 3 goals and an assist in his first 4 games returning in 3 of them.  It’s true he is playing further forward than last season but this madness can’t continue.  The question is whether he is a 5th midfielder bench option or a genuine 4th midfielder.  The underlying stats to me would suggest a 5th midfielder but he has the potential to be a decent one given his advanced position and Watfords good fixtures to come.  At least after this weekend.

Swansea (A)
Hull (H)

ANTONIO

There’s no doubt in my mind the West Ham AM is the real deal.  His ability to get into the box is unquestionable.  His underlying stats show that the 2 goals against Watford were no fluke.  Released from a wasted RB position with good fixtures coming up the only question is whether to get him or Payet as your West Ham coverage.

West Brom (A)
Southampton (H)
Middlesbrough (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
Sunderland (H)
Everton (A)

WALKER

An assist and a clean sheet as a defender is always going to get you attention in the transfers.  However with good fixtures and a strong defensive record last season the Spurs RB is a good buy at the moment.  Vertonghen is probably the cheapest starter when everyone is fit but that’s only marginal and Walker does have good attacking qualities.  With Trippier as a back up he is rotatable.  It will be interesting whether that happens in the Champions League or the PL or whether Trippier just plays the domestic cups.  Pochettino does like to rotate FBs so its a good bet it will be happening.  Wednesday’s game against Monaco will be the first pointer.

Sunderland (H)
Middlesbrough (A)
Man City (H)
West Brom (A)
Bournemouth (A)
Leicester (H)

ADAM SMITH

If you’re doing this transfer make sure you get the right Smith defender for Bournemouth.  Don’t get Brad Smith who is looking like he won’t play.  Already a goal and assist in his first 4 games this season the Bournemouth RB looks a good attacking option for Bournemouth.  How many clean sheets he gets is another matter given their clean sheet record last season and the coaches attacking philosophy.   If you’re doing this transfer before Bournemouth go to Man City then I can’t help thinking you really must have too little repairs to do to your team

Man City (A)
Everton (H)
Watford (A)
Hull (H)
Spurs (H)
Middlesbrough (A)

IHEANACHO

Although the data is rather limited there’s no doubt the City back up striker has churned out some phenomenal stats. Saturdays goal and assist in the Manchester Derby was just another example of this.  However with Aguero back from suspension in GW6 and Aguero lining up in the aborted UCL match last night it looks like it might be a 1 match transfer.  Now home to Bournemouth is a good one if you’re going to do it but that will be the likely limitation of this transfer

Bournemouth (H)
Swansea (A)
Spurs (A)
Everton (H)
Southampton (H)
West Brom (A)

THE SINKING SHIPS

AGUERO

It seemed like a bit of a wasted 2 transfers to get him out for just 2 games before the Man City striker gets back from suspension in GW6 but for 1 game is a pretty generous use of transfers.  As I said above the fact that he lined up tonight in the aborted UCL match shows that he’s fit so there’s no unexpected delay in him returning

Bournemouth (H)
Swansea (A)
Spurs (A)
Everton (H)
Southampton (H)
West Brom (A)

COUTINHO

The Liverpool AM keeps racking up the shooting stats but seems to be moving between absolute screamers and looking like he couldn’t hit a barn door.  That maybe a little malicious although it is true his shots on target conversion rate is very low.  He’s also not returned in 3 games after 2 goals in his opening match.  He surely will score as his shooting stats are very good and certainly don’t just represent someone shooting from the half way line as he is sometimes mocked for.  Fixtures soon to improve after the Chelsea game next.

Chelsea (A)
Hull (H)
Swansea (A)
Man Utd (H)
West Brom (H)
Crystal Palace (A)

MAHREZ

Can it get any worse for last years Leicester sensation?  Missed pen means these are probably gone and now 3 blanks after the opening game goal.  Whats more the 1 glimmer of good underlying stats seem to be rapidly going down the drain.  Fixtures don’t help either although I have to say I’m not convinced I would sell before a home game to Burnley.  This is all about whether you believe the real Mahrez is in there somewhere

Burnley (H)
Man Utd (A)
Southampton (H)
Chelsea (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Spurs (A)

NEGREDO

I actually thought the Middlesboro striker was a little unlucky against Palace.  However there’s no doubt the 1 goal and 2 assist start in the first 2 games is dulling a little due to the 2 blanks that followed it.  Like Mahrez though the underlying shooting stats just don’t give you anything to hang onto

Everton (A)
Spurs (H)
West Ham (A)
Watford (H)
Arsenal (A)
Bournemouth (H)

POGBA

The amount of times De Bruyne picked up the ball in the centre of the pitch and started running at an unprotected Man Utd back 4 was quite shocking.  Whats more it didn’t matter how wide the big screen was Pogba and Fellaini were consistently just not in the picture.  Now I’m a huge fan (not FPL wise in his current CM position) as a footballer but 3 blanks at £8.4m is going to see sales for sure.  Again no underlying stats to really hang your hat on for future improvement either.  Fixtures okish

 Watford (A)
Leicester (H)
Stoke (H)
Liverpool (A)
Chelsea (A)
Burnley (H)
