So the make up of the FA Cup quarter finals was largely decided yesterday apart from the Man Utd game tonight and the Hull Arsenal replay. The quarter final draw to be played on the weekend of GW30 is as follows:
Reading v Crystal Palace
Everton v Chelsea
Arsenal or Hull City v Watford
Shrewsbury or Manchester United v West Ham
So here’s the GW30 fixtures and the affect that this has on those fixtures where one of the teams will be playing in the quarters above:
GW30
Norwich v Man City – on
Aston Villa v Spurs – on
Bournemouth v Swansea – on
Man Utd v Crystal Palace postponed irrespective of the United result tonight
Stoke v Southampton – on
Sunderland v Everton – Postponed
West Ham v Watford – Postponed
Arsenal v West Brom – Arsenal win replay and postponed. Lose replay and it stays
Liverpool v Chelsea – Postponed
Leicester v Newcastle – on
So here’s my team and the effect:
So I have playing not counting Arsenal: Elliot, Walker (subject to rotation) Wollscheid, Simpson, Surman, Alli, Kane, Aguero
Thats 8 players already. I have 2 transfers up my sleeve and 5 transfers before GW30.
Spurs and Man City not getting to the quarters has meant that most people will be ok even if they were in blissful ignorance. Thats a bad position for those like me hoping that some planning would give me an advantage and a chance to catch up
Dont forget GW27
Dont forget whats right in front of your face. GW27 this week and the Cap 1 final means that Liverpool, Man City and their GW27 opponents Everton and Newcastle have no game so make sure you get this right. For me I’ll be bringing in Mahrez and Vardy for Firmino and Lukaku as they have Norwich next. I’m tempted to wait for the end of the week but I may do it early to avoid bad price movements.
It does mean that Everton and Liverpool have postponed games in both GW27 and GW30.
What about the Arsenal replay and the Cap 1 postponed games?
Hull need to play Arsenal in a replay for the FA Cup and Liverpool v Everton and Man City v Newcastle GW27 Cap 1 final games need a home at some stage and the options are limited.
Who knows at the moment? There’s so much speculation and for the moment I’m not going to add to it. What does seem apparent is that the fixture schedule is very tight and if the premier league do want to avoid fixture clashes with the European games then Mondays may have to be introduced squeezed into a tight gameweek. There certainly has been speculation that they will have to play the Hull v Arsenal on Monday March 7. That will be just before GW30 but I think for most people that wont be relevant as they can fill their GW30 team.
At the moment I’m not considering in any detail possible DGW34 and the blanks of GW35 just yet over and above my original article on the subject
It seems though we will know that replay date today.
