fantasy premier league budget midfield player rankings GW9
First it’s important to remember that each player is ranked as a transfer target for this week. So while we generally look at fixtures form and underlying stats a player who’s away to Man City is going to be ranked lower than someone home to Huddersfield for example. If possible a transfer should have a good fixture first up.
Firstly there’s a table of stats. Then there’s a bit of brief commentary on each player and their next 6 fixtures.
This is the 3rd player rankings article. I’ve also written a defenders and GKs player rankings article and one for premium midfielders
STATS DEFINITIONS
Fixt Ease: The ease of the mentioned fixture range from an attacking perspective. See our GW9 fixture ease article
Mins per FPL Pt. The amount of minutes a player takes to earn an FPL point. The shorter and obviously lower the number is the better
ATGS – the bookies anytime goalscoring odds for GW9. I’ve used William Hill
xG and xA per 90 – the expected goals and assists per 90 minutes played from the better than excellent site understat.com. See our underlying stats summary for expected goal information on teams and players. See also Joseph Crilleys GW8 review with underlying stats part 1 and part 2
The schedule
Choupo Moting
The Stoke LW or Striker has alot of FPL potential but has only produced 2 returning games in 7 he’s started. However 4 of those 7 have been against the Manchester sides, Arsenal and Chelsea. Although he scored twice against Man Utd the 3 remaining games you’d be looking for returns have only produced 1 assist. He has shown a good goal threat in 2 of those games though
Some great fixtures to come and Bournemouth will be a test for his owners
Bournemouth (H)
Watford (A)
Leicester (H)
Brighton (A)
Crystal Palace (A)
Liverpool (H)
Zaha
Back from injury in his first game against Chelsea the Palace RW playing as a striker scored and generally gave them a hard time. He’s only played 2 games but any midfielder playing striker is going to get attention especially with the fixtures ahead. Benteke is a good few weeks away as well
Newcastle (A)
West Ham (H)
Spurs (A)
Everton (H)
Stoke (H)
Brighton (A)
Ritchie
The Newcastle RW and once solus set piece taker has had his wings clipped with Shelvey coming into the team and taking some of the set pieces. It’s 3 games now with no returns and a diminished output and underlying stats as a result.
This is a fixture play and a gamble that he can have enough set piece responsibility to get returns
Crystal Palace (H)
Burnley (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Man Utd (A)
Watford (H)
West Brom (A)
Richarlison
The Watford LAM has taken to the premier league like a duck to water. 3 goals and 3 assists in 7 starts on the back of some excellent goal threat and assist underlying stats he looks an even better prospect after Chelsea in GW9
Chelsea (A)
Stoke (H)
Everton (A)
West Ham (H)
Newcastle (A)
Man Utd (H)
Ramsey
Missed last week due to injury but seems like he will be fit for the weekend. A goal and 2 assists in 6 games isn’t a particularly bad return for the money but it’s not great either. Has produced some good underlying goal threat stats but the only problem being he has shown a tendency over the years to under perform them. A few tricky fixtures coming up as well mixed in with some good ones.
Everton (A)
Swansea (H)
Man City (A)
Spurs (H)
Burnley (A)
Huddersfield (H)
Fabregas
Only a prospect due to the injury to Kante and even that has to be doubtful as Luiz can play in midfield. However Luiz is currently injured as is Drinkwater so at least you should get a few games out of him. 1 goal and 1 assist in 6 starts isn’t exactly setting the world alight and the stats at the moment aren’t suggesting much better. However we know he can produce more it’s just will he from a fairly deep CM position
Watford (H)
Bournemouth (A)
Man Utd (H)
West Brom (A)
Liverpool (A)
Swansea (H)
Gross
2 goals and 3 assists playing as a support striker with set piece responsibility sounds great. To be fair he’s done fantastically well. The underlying stats do calm the situation down a little though. You’ve also got the issue of the player having little goal threat in a very defensive team with no real striker you’d bet your house on that would put his chances created away. Fixtures are pretty good though so a good time to roll the dice if you’re a believer
West Ham (A)
Southampton (H)
Swansea (A)
Stoke (H)
Man Utd (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Tadic
Just the 1 penalty in 8 games for the man who promises so much but delivers so little. Underperforming his underlying stats has been a feature of previous years. Good fixtures and that’s the only reason for even thinking about it.
Brighton (A)
Burnley (H)
Liverpool (A)
Everton (H)
Man City (A)
Bournemouth (A)
