Fantasy premier league – captain options gameweek 14

Fantasy Premier League

Ok here’s my fantasy premier league captain options for gameweek 14. A tricky week for all but a couple of alternatives

Fantasy premier league – captain options gameweek 14

Background

Just as a general point.   I did alot of research on where the 10 point plus fantasy premier league attacking scores came from and the vast majority came from the top 4 challenging teams playing the potentially relegation threatened teams.  Now that may sound like common sense and it is how I look at where the captain choices should come from.   The theory is simple, you get more shots against the poorer teams.  What was interesting is that there wasn’t much variance between the home fixture and the away fixture.  The opposition was key.

There are some good fixtures this week following this principle.  Here they are:
1.  Arsenal v Hull
2.  Liverpool v Norwich
3.  Hull v Liverpool
4.  Man City v Swansea
 Here are the options:
1.  Giroud
2.  Suarez
I’ve also included Rooney and Aguero due to form

Options

 Giroud (home to Hull City)

  • Will he start?

Yes.   There’s no one else.

  • How consistent is he generally and at home?

Pretty consistent.  He’s returned in 9/13 games this season (7 goals and 4 assists).  At  home he’s scored 4 goals and 2 assists in 6 games returned in 4/6 games.  He’s  not returned against Liverpool  and Stoke at home away. The Stoke 3-1 victory is surprising

  • How has he performed against poor opposition so far

Pretty good.  Villa at home he scored in the 1-3 loss.  Norwich at home he got 2 assists. Stoke he didn’t return in a 3-1 win

  • Whats his recent form like

Not great.  Returned in 2 of his last 5 games.  You could question the Southampton returns as well as being out of the ordinary.

  • Whats his underlying stats like

Good he has good shooting and creating chances stats which gives him the chance to assist if he isn’t scoring.

  • Whats the opposition defence like

Away from home not great.  They’ve conceded 2 goals away in every game apart from Spurs.  Southampton hammered them 4-1 in their most recent away game and took them apart.  City and Chelsea struggled although both got 2 goals eventually.  Their underlying stats are among the worst in the division away although they have had some difficult fixtures

  • Is he an option?

Yes.  I think Arsenal will score heavily and Giroud will get something

Rooney (home to Everton)

  • Will he start?

Yes.

  • How consistent is he generally and at home?

Excellent.  8 goals and 7 assists in 12 games.  He’s returned in 10/12 games.  He also has pens. At home he’s returned in 4/6 games.  He didn’t return against Chelsea and WBA at home.

  • How has he performed against good opposition so far?

Very good.  Against Chelsea he blanked.  Against Southampton and Arsenal he got an assist in each.

  • Whats his recent form like

Excellent.  In the last 5 he’s scored 4 goals and 4 assists. He’s returned in 5/5

  • Whats his underlying stats like

Great creating chances stats.  Not much in the shooting stats front though but that didn’t matter for him last year though.

  • Whats the opposition defence like

Away from home, 7 goals conceded in 6 games.   3 clean sheets.  Only 4 sides have conceded less.   The underlying stats are the best in the league though away from home.   The best hope though is that city put 3 past them.  Baines is injured which may cause them problems.

  • Is he an option?

No to me the defence is too good to trust with the armband.  however i would have said that against Spurs

 Suarez (home to Norwich)

  • Will he start?

Yes no injury issues.

  • How consistent is he generally and at home?

Excellent.  Overall, in 8 games he’s scored an incredible 9 goals and 4 assists.  He’s returned in 6/8 games. At home he’s returned in every game

  • How has he performed against poor opposition so far

Excellent.  Palace a goal.  Fulham 2 goals and an assist.

  • Whats his recent form like

Excellent.  6 goals and 2 assists in his last 5 games.  Returned in 3/5.

  • Whats his underlying stats like

Probably the best overall underlying shooting and creating chances stats of any striker with Aguero.  His underlying stats are better at home which is normal.

  • Whats the opposition defence like

Hopeless.  4 against Arsenal 7 against Man City.   They’ve conceded more goals away than any team.  Only 1 clean sheet away to stoke.  Only Stoke and Fulham have worse underlying defensive stats away.

  • Is he an option?

Yes.   Most definitely.  The loss of Sturridge seemed to have effected him but the fixture is too good for him not to be an option.

Aguero (WBA away)

  • Will he start?

He should do.  WBA is a tricky game and its hard to imagine he wont start

  • How consistent is he generally and  away?

Excellent.  10 goals and 8 assists in 12 games overall.  He’s only started 4 games away and returned in 3.  The game he didn’t return in was away to Sunderland.  He did everything but in that game.

  • How has he performed against poor opposition so far

Good.   West Ham away 2 goals and an assist.  Sunderland A a blank although very unlucky

  • Whats his recent form like

.   Good.  4 goals and 4 assists in his last 5 games.  Returned in 3/5

  • Whats his underlying stats like

Excellent.  Only Suarez is in the same ball park.  Great shooting and creating chances stats.  Equally good home and away stats.

  • Whats the opposition defence like

Very good.   At home WBA have conceded 6 goals in 6 games with 2 clean sheets.  Thats about mid table in goals conceded.  Arsenal have been the only difficult opponent and they drew 1-1.  Underlying stats have been excellent at home defensively.  Among the best in the division.  However as stated only Arsenal have been difficult opposition.

  • Is he an option?

No.  I would prefer to avoid him given the opposition defensive record

So here’s how I rank the fantasy premier league captain options:

Summary:

Yes in order:

1. Suarez

2.  Giroud

I’ve said no to Rooney and Aguero

William Hill check

Here’s how William Hill see the anytime goal scorer odds market with all players at under £2.00

1.   Suarez– £1.36

2.  Giroud – £1.50

3.  RVP – £1.91

Aguero – £1.91

Rooney is £2.20

Were reasonably aligned although they are more positive on Aguero than I am.

I hope that gives you some food for thought for your fantasy premier league captain choice.  I think Suarez will be the overwhelming choice
