Fantasy premier league – captain options gameweek 21

Fantasy Premier League

Ok here’s my fantasy premier league captain options for fantasy premier league gameweek 21. Another interesting week ahead

Fantasy premier league – captain options gameweek 21

Background

Just as a general point for those coming to the site for the first time.   I did alot of research on where the 10 point plus fantasy premier league attacking scores came from and the vast majority came from the top 4 challenging teams playing the potentially relegation threatened teams.  Now that may sound like common sense and it is how I look at where the captain choices should come from.   The theory is simple, you get more shots against the poorer teams.  What was interesting is that there wasn’t much variance between the home fixture and the away fixture.  The opposition was key.  However at the moment Suarez is breaking all the rules and is a form option irrespective of the opposition

There are some good fixtures this week following this principle.  Here they are:
1.   Everton v Norwich
2.  Tottenham v Palace
3.  Aston Villa v Arsenal
 Here are the options:
1.  Lukaku
2.  Adebayor
3.  Giroud
I’ve also included Suarez due to form.

Options

 Lukaku (Home to Norwich)

  • Will he start?

Yes.   no injury issues

  • How consistent is he generally and away from home?

Very Good.  Overall its  9 goals 4 assists in 16 games for Everton returning in 10 of 16 games. At home he’s returned in 5 out of 8 games.  2 of those have been more than 10 fantasy premier league point hauls

  • How has he performed against poor opposition so far at home

OK at best.   Blanked at home to Hull.  In two 4 goal thrashings against Stoke and Fulham he got a goal in 1 game and an assist in another

  • Whats his recent form like

OK at best.  Returned in 2 out of his last 5 games. Despite some reasonable fixtures only a goal and an assist in those 5 games.

  • Whats his underlying stats like

OK at best.  Shooting stats are reasonable but not creating chances.

  • Whats the opposition defence like

Hopeless.  7 goals conceded against City, 5 against Liverpool and 4 against Arsenal.  Look for goals for Everton in this fixture

  • Is he an option?

Yes.  Despite the drop off in form and the poor showings against 2 of the worst away defences in Stoke and Fulham he still returned,  He is capable of big hauls.  He is a risk though due to a recent drop off in form

Adebayor (home to Palace)

  • Will he start?

Yes.  Despite an indifferent FA CUP display its hard not to see him start after being brought into the side by Sherwood.

  • How consistent is he generally and at home?

Very Good but with limited data.  3 goals 2 assists in 4 games.   He returned in 3 out of 4.  Only played 2 home games.  A blank against WBA and 2 assists in the 3 nil win against Stoke

  • How has he performed against good opposition so far at home?

OK.  As above a blank against WBA and 2 assists against Stoke

  • Whats his recent form like

Excellent.    Only played 4 games since coming back.  3 goals 2 assists in 4 games.   He returned in 3 out of 4.

  • Whats his underlying stats like

Very Good.  Very good shooting and creating chances stats.  Has a good all round game when motivated to play.

  • Whats the opposition defence like

Have improved alot under Pulis.   Since Pulis in the difficult away games they’ve improved.  Chelsea scored 2 at home and City scored 1.  I think Spurs with an attacking philosophy will score a couple

  • Is he an option?

Not for me.  At his price and with his potential he’s a good pick for GW21.  As a reliable captain option though?  Too hard to tell which Adebayor is going to turn up and too few games to see how much of a success he will be

Giroud (Villa away)

  • Will he start?

It seems he will

  • How consistent is he generally and  away?

Good.  11 goals 4 assists in 18 games.   Returned in 10 of those 18 games  (56%).  Returned in 6 of 10 away games.

  • How has he performed against poor opposition so far away

Excellent.  Against Palace Sunderland and Fulham he at least scored and West Ham away an assist.  Cardiff away only game he blanked

  • Whats his recent form like

OK.  Dropped off a little plus some difficult fixtures.  Only returned in 2 of his last 5 matches.  Has gone back to the guy he cant finish his chances of last year.

  • Whats his underlying stats like

OK.  good shooting stats but not creating chances for others

  • Whats the opposition defence like

Not good.  Overall Villa at home have conceded 14 goals and got 4 clean sheets.  Not bad.  However, the telling stat though is that United Everton and Spurs have won easily here.  City despite losing could have scored any amount

  • Is he an option?

Yes despite having issues finishing off chances  in recent matches and a dip in form generally I think the rest and the opposition will do him good.

Suarez (away to Stoke)

  • Will he start?

Yes.   no injury issues

  • How consistent is he generally and away from home?

19 goals and 12 assists: in 15 games.  Returned in 12 of those games   ( 80%)         Returned in 7 out of 10 away games.

  • How has he performed against good opposition so far at home

Mixed.  Stoke have a good home record.  One of the best.  Hull are a similar team where he blanked.  Chelsea also he was kept quiet despite an assist.  Arsenal away though he was unlucky as he was away to City.

  • Whats his recent form like

Excellent.  Returned in 4 of his last 5 games

  • Whats his underlying stats like

Excellent.  The best along with Aguero.  Great shooting and creating chances stats

  • Whats the opposition defence like

Excellent at home.  The 4th best home defence in my view.  4 clean sheets and only 7 goals conceded in 10 games.  Huth  and Begovic and possibly even Sorenson are injured which is a loss though.   Against the better opposition.  City without Aguero blanked.  Everton scored 1 and Chelsea scored 2 but should have scored more.  The injuries though are a factor

  • Is he an option?

He’s always an option for me.  The Stoke defence at home is strong but the injuries will help Liverpool

Summary:

Yes in order:

1. Suarez

2. Giroud

3.  Lukaku

No Adebayor

William Hill check

Here’s how William Hill see the anytime goal scorer odds market with all players at under £2.00

1.   Suarez 1.57

2.  Lukaku £1.61

3.  Soldado £1.73

4.  Giroud £1.80

5.  Adebayor £1.91

Interesting reasonably aligned.  They’re more confident about Adebayor than me.  Soldado despite having pens has alot to do to earn my trust

I hope that gives you some food for thought for your fantasy premier league captain choice.
