Fantasy Premier League

Here’s some  captain options for GW2 and some stats to help you out

fantasy premier league captain choice gameweek 2

Unless were talking about a captain for every game like Suarez or Ronaldo from years gone by I generally believe the best option is to take  the captain from a game where there’s likely to be one team dominating another.

The best games this week seem to be Chelsea v Leicester and Spurs v QPR plus maybe Swansea v Burnley.

Here’s a few options from these games and some facts to help you decide who to go for

Diego Costa

Having started the season with a goal Costa’s bound to be feeling confident.  His and Fabregas’ transfer seemed to have revolutionised Chelseas attacking ability.  We obviously have no stats from last year to analyse which in itself is a risk as generally there is a perception of time being required to adjust to the premier league.  Certainly that was the case last year with no incoming attacking player being an unqualified success.

Chelsea certainly started well in GW1 scoring 3 goals early on and then taking their foot of the gas in the 2nd half.  They have the potential to score a number of goals and Costa is the best placed player to benefit.

He won’t have pens, thats likely to fall to Hazard and his assist record wasn’t that great last season.  He also didn’t create much for others in the Burnley game.  Leicester’s away defence was good last season.  They were 2nd to Brighton in clean sheets and goals conceded away in the Championship.  Chelsea will be a different kettle of fish completely though.

Hazard

Very quiet in the romp over Burnley.  Incredibly he didn’t have a shot.  However that is the nature of Hazard.  At home against the lower teams he can be devestating.  8 out of his 35 games saw scores of 10 points or more.  That wasn’t that stunning .  Percentage wise Gerrard, Ramsey and YYT were better.  What was significant is that 4 of those games were at home to the bottom 7 teams.  The other 3 home games though he returned nothing.  However this year now he should also have pens.  On the negative side he is inconsistent.  The % of games that he returnbed a goal or assist was only 43%.  To put it into context YYT was 66% .  Mirallas was 41% and far cheaper with far more sub appearances.

You roll the dice and take your chanmces with Hazard.

 Adebayor

Had a great end to last season after he got into the team via Tim Sherwood.  Should have pens as well this season.  Ignore the West Ham game which was blighted by Naughtons red card.  He didn’t have a shot and created only 1 chance in that game.  Last year he was reasonably consistent at 52 % of games recording a goal or assist.   He wasn’t in for the big hauls though only getting 3  ten point or more hauls out of 21 games.  He also did better away scoring 7 of his 11 goals away.  So some mixed stats there

The QPR defence looks good on paper and has been significantly stregthened in the off season.  Although QPR dominated the game against Hull in GW1 QPR didn’t defend well at all and it wasn’t a good sign against a pretty ordinary attacking team.

  Bony

Bony’s stats are distorted by the number of sub appearances last year.  However he still got 10 point or more scores in 6 out of 34 games.  Considering there were a number of sub appearances early on thats a great stat.  He’s not a flat track bully though he can score big against anyone.

Burnley were 3rd behind Leicester and Brighton in clean sheets and goals conceded in the Championship  last season.  However they were ripped apart by Chelsea who they can thank for taking their foot off the pedal in the 2nd half.

The bookies odds

Lets see who William Hill have at odds less than £2.00 as anytime goal scorer

£1.44 – Costa

£1.67 – Drogba

£1.73 –  Torres

£1.83 – Adebayor

£1.91 – Hazard, RVP

They have Bony at £2.15 by the way

As for the others in the table, I’ve not considered Drogba and Torres as they have gametime risk.  While RVP is fit there is some question whether he will start so I’ve not counted him in

Hope that helps you in your captain choice.  I’ve gone for Costa as you may have seen
