fantasy premier league captain choice – GW13

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s our fantasy premier league captain choice article for GW13.  We’ll give you the important stats on the leading options as well as the bookies view as a back up

fantasy premier league captain choice – GW13

Firstly lets look at the games that are likely to be dominated by 1 team as the source of our captain picks.

There are 3 games in my view:

1.  WBA v Arsenal

2.  Man Utd v Hull

3.  Sunderland v Chelsea

From that I’ve picked Sanchez, Di Maria and Costa

Sanchez (away to WBA)

Will he start?

With the Champions League fixtures just gone and a midweek game coming up against Southampton, rotation is a potential issue for the teams in Europe so this can’t be guaranteed.  He is free from injury issues and is a crucial part of the team though

Whats his consistency like overall and away

Good.  Overall he’s returned in 7/11 games.  Away he’s returned in 3/5 games

How has he performed against lower placed opposition away?

Against Leicester, Sunderland and Swansea he’s returned.  His blanks were against Everton and Chelsea away

What’s his recent away form like?

LEI(A) 1-1     90 minutes     1 goal      10 points
CHE(A) 0-2   78  minutes  Blanked   2  points
SUN(A) 2-0   90  minutes   2 goals   16  points
SWA(A) 1-2   90  minutes  1 goal      9 points

So excellent.

So whats his underlying shooting and creating chances stats like?

Excellent the best all round of any midfielder

Whats the opposition defence like?

Here’s the last 4 home games

BUR(H) 4-0
MUN(H) 2-2
CRY(H) 2-2
NEW(H) 0-2

So pretty ordinary.

Overall their home defence is terrible.  Only 1 clean sheet at home and only Everton have conceded more goals than the 10 in 6 games that WBA have.  The one hope is that the home defensive underlying stats are alot better than that.  The only top 4 challenging team they’ve played at home is Everton where they lost 2-0

Overall thoughts?

Good consistency home and away and against poor performing opposition at home.  Gametime is the risk

Di Maria (Hull H)

Will he start?

With no European involvement it’s impossible to think he won’t play

What’s his consistency like overall and at home?

Returned in 6/10 games overall.  He’s returned in 3/5 games at home

How has he performed against lower placed opposition at home?

Returned against QPR and Crystal Palace but not against West Ham

Whats his recent home form like?

WHU(H) 2-1    90 minutes  Blanked               2 points
EVE(H) 2-1       90 minutes   1 goal 1 assist   13 points
CHE(H) 1-1      90  minutes   Blanked             2 points
CRY(H) 1-0     70 minutes    1 assist               6 point

So a bit mixed.

Whats his underlying shooting and creating chances stats like?

Good in both categories.

Whats the opposition defence like?

NEW(A) 2-2
ARS(A) 2-2
LIV(A) 0-0
BUR(A) 0-1

So improved in the last 2 games.  Overall though they’ve been strong. It’s 2 clean sheets away and they’ve only conceded 7 goals away in 6 games.  Only Southampton have conceded less goals away.

The underlying stats give a mixed messages.  High on shots but low on big chances and errors

Overall thoughts?

Last week he practically played up front to be in a good position on the counter.  Where will he play against a deep defensive team like Hull is questionable.  Does have the lions share of set pieces though and is certain to play unlike some of the other options in European competitions

Costa (Sunderland A)

Will he start?

Same issues as Sanchez as they have Spurs at home next.

Whats his consistency like overall and away?

He’s returned in 8/10 games overall.  Away it’s 3 out of 4 games.

How has he performed against lower placed opposition away?

Only Burnley has been against low placed opposition in which he scored

Whats his recent away form like?

BUR(A) 3-1    90   1 goal      6 points
EVE(A) 6-3    90   2 goals    12 points
MCI(A) 1-1     85   Blanked  1 point
LIV(A) 2-1     89   1 goal       7  points

So pretty good

Whats his underlying shooting and creating chances like?

Excellent only Pelle has better overall stats as a forward

Whats the opposition defence like?

Here’s their last 4 home games

SWA(H) 0-0
STK(H) 3-1
ARS(H) 0-2
EVE(H) 1-1

So ok.  Against top 4 challenging opposition apart from the above they’ve conceded 2 against Spurs and 1 against Man Utd.

Overall at home in 6 games they’ve conceded 7 games and had 1 clean sheet which is mid table stuff defensively.  Their underlying defensive stats are good.

Overall thoughts?

A gametime risk potentially.  However Chelsea are an attacking juggernaut and Costa the focal point. He continues to perform fantastically although the Sunderland defence isn’t the soft touch people think it is.

The Bookies thoughts

Here’s the anytime goal scoring odds at around £2.00 from 1 bookie

£1.83 – Costa

£1.85 – RVP, Rooney, Falcao

£1.90 – Bony

£2.15 – Sanchez, Aguero

I’ve stayed away from the Man Utd contingent as it’d difficult to predict who will start and where.  Bony has been inconsistent for me although in good form recently and home to Swansea is an excellent fixture so he is an outside option.  Aguero is in fantastic form but I have shied away from games against strong opposition

I’m going to stick with Costa myself.  Di Maria as vice to give certainty of gametime.

Thats it good luck for the game week
