fantasy premier league captain choice GW26

Hazard (Burnley H)

Will he start?

Should do as he has started every PL game this season.  Did play against PSG midweek and as Mourinho reminded us did get a bit of a kicking.  No injury issues but couldn’t 100% rule out being rested.

Whats his  consistency like overall and at home so far this season

Overall:   He’s returned a goal or assist in 14/25 games which is  56%.  Only Fabregas has better consistency for midfielders. Has got 10 + FPL point hauls in 24% of games

At home he’s excellent:  He’s returned in 9/12 games (75%).  4 of his 6 10+ point hauls have come at home

How has he performed against lower placed opposition at home?

A little mixed.  No return against Villa.  A goal and an assist against Hull and a goal against qpr.  A blank home to Newcastle

Whats his recent home form like?

A little mixed

WHU(H) 2-0 90 minutes  0 goal 1 assist 6 points
NEW(H) 2-0 90 minutes  Blank  3 points
MCI(H) 1-1 90 minutes     0 goal 1 assist 8 points
EVE(H) 1-0 90 minutes   Blank 3 points

Whats the opposition defence like away?

Very poor

Over the season:  Away from home only QPR have conceded more than their 25 goals from 12 games.  They’ve conceded more than 2 goals on 4 occaisions at home.

Against the big sides:  0-3 Arsenal, 0-1 Spurs, 1-3 Man Utd, Man City 2-2

Last 4 away:

MCI(A) 2-2
NEW(A) 3-3
SUN(A) 0-2
MUN(A) 1-3

Summary

All about the Burnley defence which is terrible.  Hazard has been very consistent at home but not as brutal against the lower placed opposition as he was last season.  He does have pens which is a big advantage.

Aguero (Newcastle H)

Will he start?

Should do given his importance to the team and the other misfiring strikers and Man City’s precarious title chasing position.  Barca in the Champs league midweek is the risk, possibly not for starting but certainly an early sub risk if they do get ahead.

Whats his consistency like overall and at home?

Overall:  Returned a goal or assist in 13/19 games which is an excellent 68%.

At home:  Surprisingly ordinary apart from the Spurs match.  He’s only returned a goal or assist in 4/8 games

How has he performed against lower placed opposition at home?

Not great:  Blanked against Stoke and Swansea and an assist againt Hull.

Whats his recent home form like?

Nothing special

MUN(H) 1-0 83 minutes   1 goal 0 assist 8 points
SWA(H) 2-1 90 minutes   blank 2 points
ARS(H) 0-2 90 minutes   blank 1 point
HUL(H) 1-1 90 minutes  0 1 assist 5 points

Whats the opposition defence like away?

Over the season  away from home only Leicester, Burnley and QPR have conceded more.  In 13 away games, 3 clean sheets though and conceded more than 1 only 5 times.  Have got a number of injuries in defence

Against the big teams it’s also not good.  Chelsea 0-2, Arsenal 1-4, Man Utd 1-3, Spurs 1-2

Here’s their last 4 away games:

MUN(A) 1-3
CHE(A) 0-2
HUL(A) 3-0
CRY(A) 1-1

Summary

Great form over the season and no doubting his quality but has been surprisingly off colour at home and at home against the lower placed sides.  However although the Newcastle defence hasn’t been as poor as Burnley they haven’t performed well at all against the bigger sides.  Barca away in the week and coming off an injury could limit his minutes.  Has pens

Kane (West Ham H)

Will he start?

Came off the bench in the Europa League so will definitely start

Whats his consistency like overall and at home?

Overall:  Incredible 11/16 (69%)  games if you ignore his run of sub appearances at the beginning of the season

At home:  Not as good having returned in 4/8 games at home

How has he performed against lower placed opposition at home?

Not so good.  A blank against Palace, a goal against Burnley, and a blank against Sunderland

Whats his recent home form like?

Mixed 2 incredible performances.  2 blanks

MUN(H) 0-0 90 minutes blank  2 points
CHE(H) 5-3 90 minutes 2 goals  2 assists 18 points
SUN(H) 2-1 90 minutes blank  2 points
ARS(H) 2-1 90 minutes 2 goals 0 assists 12 points

Whats the opposition defence like away?

Overall away they’ve been a mid table away defence team over the season.  They’ve conceded 17 goals got 1 clean sheet and conceded more than 1 goal on 6 occaisions away but never more than 2.  The defence appears back to full strength.

Against the big teams Man Utd 1-2, Chelsea 0-2, Liverpool 0-2

Here’s the last 4 away games:

CHE(A) 0-2
SWA(A) 1-1
LIV(A) 0-2
SOU(A) 0-0

With Big Sam in charge they’re never going to be defensive mugs although the 4-0 loss against WBA in the FA Cup is a cloud over the side

Summary

Although there’s no doubt what a star he’s been over the season and very consistent,  the one area of doubt as far as a captain choice is concerned is his ability to score at home consistently and against lower placed opposition.  West Ham also aren’t the defensive mugs that Burnely have been and Newcastle can be

Costa (Burnley H)

Will he start?

Hard to believe he wont after being suspended for 3 games.

Whats his consistency like overall and at home?

Overall:   he’s been very consistent returning a goal or assist in 13/20 games (65%)

At home:  He’s been fantastic returning a goal or assist in 8/9 games.

How has he performed against lower placed opposition at home?

Very consistent.  Leicester a goal, Villa a goal, QPR a blank, WBA, Hull and Newcastle a goal

Whats his recent home form like?

Here’s his last 4 home games:

WBA(H) 2-0 83 minutes  1 goal 0 assists 6 points
HUL(H) 2-0 90 minutes 1 goal 0 assists 5 points
WHU(H) 2-0 82 minutes 1 goal 1 assist 11 points
NEW(H) 2-0 83 minutes 1 goal  0 assists 6 points

Whats the opposition defence like away?

Straight from the Hazard section:  Very poor

Over the season:  Away from home only QPR have conceded more than their 25 goals from 12 games.  They’ve conceded more than 2 goals on 4/12 occaisions.

Against the big sides:  0-3 Arsenal, 0-1 Spurs, 1-3 Man Utd, Man City 2-2

Last 4 away:

MCI(A) 2-2
NEW(A) 3-3
SUN(A) 0-2
MUN(A) 1-3

Summary

Very consistent player even if he doesn’t seem to get big scores very often.  The opposition defence though is absolutely terrible

Bookies odds

Here’s the anytime goalscoring odds from 1 bookmaker

£1.63 – Costa

£1.69 – Aguero

£1.81 – Dzeko

£1.86 – Remy

£1.91 – Drogba

£2.07 – Bony and Jovetic

£2.23 – Kane

£2.32 – Hazard

Around the FPL advice sites and top 10 FPL managers

The main site’s captain poll shows Hazard relatively closely in front of Aguero.  On the other advice sites 2 teams have Hazard and 1 Kane.  I only have intelligence on 1 of the top 10 managers I follow and he’s also going Hazard

FFGeek team

I had Aguero in but after looking at the Burnley defence and some of Aguero’s home issues I’m changing to Hazard.  Also with Aguero  the injury doubt earlier in the week and Barca in the Champions league coming up midweek means Aguero may have reduced miutes.  Therefore I’m going to change my captain to Hazard.

Hope it was helpful in choosing your captain
