fantasy premier league captain choice – GW35

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s our fantasy premier league captain choice article for gameweek 31.  The full version this week when we look at the crucial stats, what the bookies think and we also look at some of the other FPL advice sites for their views.  Plus we’ll state the FFGeek team captain and any of the top 10 FPL managers we follow. This week were looking at Aguero vs Hazard

fantasy premier league captain choice – GW35

Aguero (Tottenham A)

Will he start?

No indication he won’t and with Man City wanting to secure at least 3rd no reason to be rested or rotated

Whats his consistency like overall and away?

Overall excellent:  He’s returned a goal or assist in 18/30 games or 60%.

Away he’s been incredible:  Returned a goal or assist in 11/15 games or 73%

How has he performed against similar opposition away?

Difficult to categorise Spurs.  Despite being a challenger for a top 4 place for a reasonable part of the season their defence has been awful.  It’s probably just worth outlining the 4 away games that Aguero didn’t return in away from home.  Those being West Ham, Everton, Burnley and Palace which are 4 of the poorer defensive sides this season.

Whats his recent away form like?

Here’s his last 4 games which have been somewhat mixed

LIV(A) 1-2       90 minutes   0 goals 1 assist  5 points

BUR(A) 0-1     90 minutes  blank 2 points
CRY(A) 1-2      90 minutes0 blank  2 points
MUN(A) 2-4   90 minutes  2 goals   12 points

Whats the opposition defence like at home?

Not great.  Conceded 23 goals in 17 games and are ranked 15th in that category

Only 4 clean sheets at home.  The same as Leicester and Newcastle.  Only Villa and Palace have less at home.

Conceded more than 2 on 3 occasions.  Only Burnley and Newcastle have a worse record in that regard

Here’s the recent home defensive form which is pretty poor including 3 conceded to Leicester:

WHU(H) 2-2
SWA(H) 3-2
LEI(H) 4-3
AVL(H) 0-1

Summary

Lets not forget he scored 4 against the same team earlier in the season.  Has been sensational away although the last 4 don’t follow that sensational form. Pellegrini seems to have gone back to Aguero being a lone striker which suits him far better from a scoring point of view although some of that has been with Bony injured.  Also has pens.

Hazard (Palace at home)

Will he start?

Having played every premier league game this year impossible to think he wont start when Chelsea can win the title

Whats his consistency like overall and at home?

Overall excellent:  He’s returned a goal or assist in 20/34 games or 59%.

At home  he’s been even better: Returned a goal or assist in 11/16 games or 69%

How has he performed against lower placed opposition at home?

Easier to look at the 5 games he blanked in Swansea, Aston Villa, Newcastle, Everton and Southampton.  So certainly lower placed opposition is no guarantee of returns

Whats his recent home form like?

Here’s his last 4 games which have been pretty impressive

BUR(H) 1-1    90 minutes     0 goals 1 assist  8 points
SOU(H) 1-1     90 minutes    blank                   2 points
STK(H) 2-1     90 minutes    1 goal 1 assist     13  points
MUN(H) 1-0   90 minutes   1 goal 0 assist     11 points

Whats the opposition defence like at away?

Hard to look at the stats as a whole as Pardew becoming manager has made them more attacking whereas Warnock was quite a defensively minded manager.

Overall away surprisingly good:    Conceded 22 goals in 17 games and are ranked 8th in that category.  Thats the same as Man City.

4 clean sheets away which again is surprisingly good.  The same as Man Utd, Man City and Southampton.  Only 7 teams have more away clean sheets.

Conceded more than 2 on 3 occasions.  Only Burnley and Newcastle have a worse record in that regard

Here’s the recent away defensive form

WHU(A) 3-1
SOU(A) 0-1
STK(A) 2-1
SUN(A) 4-1

So conceded in each game although only 1 but not as impressive as the overall season form.

Summary

So Hazard is very good at home and the last 2 home  games have seen double figure returns.  The double gameweek blank was away but seemed to show that the season was catching up with him.  However at home to win the league is surely the time to shine and give you renewed vigour.  Palace have been surprisingly good away from home but the recent defensive form with Pardew in place isn’t as compelling.  Hazard has pens too by the way.

The Bookie Stats

Here’s the anytime goalscoring odds for 1 bookie at around £2.25 or better.  I’ve removed those with gametime risk

£1.75 – Rooney

£1.80 – Aguero

£1.85 – Hazard

£1.91 – Sterling

£2.05 – Bony

£2.10 – Fellaini

£2.15 – Sanchez, Giroud

£2.20 – Benteke

£2.25 – Vardy, Ulloa, Mata

Other FPL sites

The main FPL advice site has Hazard at 40% and Aguero at 15% in their poll.

Of the teams on the FPL sites 2 have Hazard as captain 1 has Giroud

Only 1 has a captain poll which has Hazard about 8% ahead of Aguero

3 do Captains articles 1 advising Aguero, 2 advise Hazard.

Top 10 FPL managers

Only 1 has come out to show his team and he has captained Hazard

The FFGeek team

I’m sticking with Hazard.  I think it will be the pick that most people go with so I’m playing it safe.

Good luck today
