Fantasy premier league captain choice – GW6

Fantasy Premier League

Unfortunately it’s another late captain article which obviously upset a few people last week.  Just the passing of time makes it difficult to get out early.  Unfortuantely it will also be brief.  A good thing its a pretty obvious captain choice this week

Here’s the games which are most likely to unearth the goals which is my normal starting point:

Chelsea vs Aston Villa

Man Utd v West Ham

Southampton v QPR

Ok so here’s the best options from those games:

Costa

Mourinho pretty much said he would start in his press conference.  Costa is the leagues top goal scorer.  The highest ownership of any player and a player with the best overall underlying shooting and creating chances stats.  His last game at home was a hat trick against Swansea.  Chelsea are playing a team in Villa  that just conceded 3 goals at home to Arsenal.  That 3 goals does mask the fact that they with Burnley and Southampton are  amazingly top of the clean sheet table.  Also only Southampton have conceded less goals.  They also did keep a clean sheet against Liverpool at Anfield.  In terms of the underlying stats they are mid table in shots conceded in the box although they have conceded conceded less big chances than anyone

Man Utd

There are 4 potential options here in Di Maria, Rooney, Falcao and even RVP.

Falcao and RVP are the strikers both with low ownership.  If Costa somehow fails and you captain either of these 2 you will get a big boost to your rankings.

RVP has started poorly with 1 goal in his first 4 games.  His underlying shooting and creating chances stats aren’t too bad though but in form he is not.

Falcao had good patches against Leicester but has yet to score in his first 2 games.  Too early to analyse underlying stats.

Di Maria has started fantastically with 2 goals and 2 assists in his first 3 games.  Whether he can keep scoring is the only doubr as he is more of an assist based player.  That certainly hasn’t done any harm to Fabregas but whether you would captain him is another thing.

That leaves Rooney who looks to be shifted back behind the 2 strikers which isn’t ideal.

As for West Ham they have conceded 8 goals in the first 5 games and have yet to keep a clean sheet.  The new attacking philosophy has certainly not helped the defence and expect goals here.

Pelle

3 goals and 1 assist isn’t a bad start for the player new to the premier league.  He’s also returned in his last 3 games.  His underlying shooting stats are excellent.

QPR have conceded 4 goals in each of their 2 away games.  However their shots conceded are bad but not the worst but they have conceded more big chances away than anyone else.

The  Bookmakers view

Here’s the anytime goal scoring odds of 1 bookmaker under £2.00:

£1,61 Costa

£1.67  RVP, Falcao

£1.80  Rooney

£1.83 Drogba Remy

Di Maria is £2.50 and Pelle is £2.05

I’ve discounted Drogba and Remy on the basis of gametime security
