Fantasy premier league captain options – GW21

Firstly lets look at the games that are likely to be dominated by 1 team as the source of our captain picks.

There are 2 games in my view:

1.  Chelsea v Newcastle

2. Arsenal v Stoke

From that I’ve picked Hazard, Costa and Sanchez

Hazard (Newcastle home)

Will he start?

Hazard was rested for the FA Cup game against Watford and having started every premier league  game this season it’s difficult to see him not playing.

Whats his overall consistency like?

Very Good.  He’s scored a goal or an assist in 12/20 games so it’s an excellent consistency rate considering he’s also got explosiveness and has got 10 points or more in 5/2 games.

How has he performed against lower placed opposition at home?

Good.  He’s returned in 5/7 qualifying games and has got 4 goals and 2 assists.

Whats his recent home form like?

Excellent.  Here’s his last 4 home games

WBA(H) 2-0 90 minutes     1 goal 0 assists  11 points

TOT(H) 3-0    90  minutes   1 goal  0 assists   9 points
HUL(H) 2-0    90  minutes   1 goal 1 assist    14 points
WHU(H) 2-0   90  minutes  0 goals 1 assist  6 points

Whats his underlying  shooting and creating chances  stats like?

Excellent for both

Whats the opposition defence like?

Pretty hopeless.  Here’s their last 4 away games.  No clean sheets and big losses against the 2 top 4 challenging teams

WHU(A) 0-1
BUR(A) 1-1
ARS(A) 1-4
MUN(A) 1-3

In all away games only Everton, Leicester, Burnley and QPR have conceded more goals.  Krul maybe back although Coloccini and Janmaat are doubts and S Taylor is injured.

Overall thoughts?

The obvious captain choice.  Consistent and explosive at home against a team with one of the worst records away records and a vulnerability to a thrashing from the top 4 challenging teams as Southampton also put 4 goals past them.  To make it worse the defence could be very patched up.  Oh and Hazard has pens.

Diego Costa (Newcastle home)

Will he start?

Seems likely.  Did play half a game against Watford in the Cup but at least recently has started 6 consecutive games.

Whats his overall consistency like?

Very good.  Scored or assisted in 11/17 games which is a 65% return date.  He’s only scored 10 points or more in 3/17 games qhich is 18%.

How has he performed against lower placed opposition at home?

Excellent.  8 goals and 1 assist and returned in 6 of 7 games.

Whats his recent home form like?

Good.  Here’s his last 4 games

QPR(H) 2-1   77  minutes 0 goals  assists 2 points

WBA(H) 2-0  83  minutes  1 goal 0 assists 6 points
HUL(H) 2-0  90   minutes 1 goal 0  assists 5 points
WHU(H) 2-0 82   minutes 1 goal 1 assists   11 points

So good consistency but only 1 big haul and no bonus  in both 2-0 wins.

Whats his underlying  shooting and creating chances  stats like?

Very good for both

Whats the opposition defence like?

As for Hazard, here’s their last 4 away games.

A very consistent returner of goals especially at home but seems to struggle getting bonus points unless there’s a double return.  Same thoughts re Newcastle as above in that they are a team with one of the worst records away  and have a vulnerability to a thrashing from the top 4 challenging teams as Southampton also put 4 goals past them.  To make it worse the defence could be very patched up.

Sanchez (Stoke home)

Will he start?

Surprisingly considering Wengers comments about him being in the red zone he played 84 minutes against Hull in the FA Cup.  I would personally be surprised if he doesn’t start against Wengers arch enemy team

Whats his overall consistency like?

Very good.  Retuned a goal or assist in 11/19 games which is a respectable 58%.  Also is explosive with 5/19 games with 10 point plus hauls.

How has he performed against lower placed opposition at home?

Phenomenal.  He’s returned in 5/5 qualifying games and has got 4 goals and 5 assists.  3 of those 5 games had 10 point plus point hauls

Whats his recent home form like?

Excellent.  Here’s his last 4 home games

MUN(H) 1-2   90 minutes 0 goals and 0 assists  2 points
SOU(H) 1-0    90  minutes 1 goal and 0 assists  9 points
NEW(H) 4-1   86  minutes 0 goals and 2 assists   9 points
QPR(H) 2-1    90   minutes 1 goal and  1 assists   10 points

Whats his underlying  shooting and creating chances  stats like?

Excellent for both

Whats the opposition defence like?

Unfortunately it’s very good.

Here’s their last 4 away games.  1 clean sheets and only 4 goals conceded so pretty impressive.

LIV(A) 0-1
MUN(A) 1-2
CRY(A) 1-1
EVE(A) 1-0

In all 10 away games they have conceded only  12 games.  Only Southampton, Man City  and Aston Villa have conceded less.  No defensive injury issues.  No weaknesses away to the bigger teams as a win at Man City showed and close 1-0 loss to Southampton showed.

Overall thoughts?

Someone with a great home record meets a team with a pretty good away record.  You can’t deny his record and how good Arsenal are at home it’s just Stoke are no pushovers away from home.

The Bookies thoughts

Here’s the anytime goal scoring odds at around £2.00 from 1 bookie as of Wednesday night.

£1.60 – Costa

£1.85 – Remy, Drogba

£1.90 – Aguero

£2.00 – Hazard

£2.10 – Sanchez

£2.15 –Giroud

£2.25 – Schurrle, Jovetic, Harry Kane

So Costa the clear favourite.  Remy, Drogba, Aguero (injury) and Schurrle are all gametime risks.

Other FPL sites

I had a quick tour around other FPL sites to see what their polls or views were.  It;s pretty early in the week though.

The main FPL advice site has Hazard way ahead of Costa and then Kane with Sanchez close by.

2 other sites have captain polls with similar results.  Hazard way ahead and Costa and Kane/ Costa and Sanchez close by.

FFGeek pick

It’s Hazard all the way.  His explosiveness with growing consistency against a injury riddled poor performing defence is the reasoning

Good Luck whoever you pick
