Fantasy premier league – clean sheet analysis GW8

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s my look at all the fantasy premier league gameweek GW8 matches to see where the potential clean sheets are

I’ve gone through all the games and given a basic stats analysis and then a verdict on whether I think there will be a clean sheet.  If you cant be bothered with all that there’s a summary at the end of what I think will be the clean sheets and the ranking of their likelihood.  I’ve also added the William Hill odds of a clean sheet and ranked all of them under£3.00  for a clean sheet in order as a comparison and a sense check.

Newcastle v Liverpool

Newcastle clean sheet:

Newcatle defence: 12 goals conceded in first 7 games and clean sheets.    Underlying stats are pretty poor and Ive ranked them the 17th overall defence.  have performed at home albeit against West Ham and Fulham who arent the best attacking sides and conceded 3 at home to Hull

Liverpool attack:  11 goals in 7 games and back with the excellent partnership of Sturridge and Suarez.  Suarez maybe a little blunted after WCQs in South america

Liverpool clean sheet:

Liverpool  defence : 5 goals conceded in their first 7 games and 3 clean sheets.   Mid table underlying stats. no clean sheets in their last 4

Newcastle attack:  9 goals scored in 7 games  and underlying stats in the top 3rd.  Remy in good form

Verdict:  no clean sheet

Liverpool havent looked solid enough for a clean sheet but they will definitely score

William Hill clean sheet Verdict:  Newcastle £5.00  Liverpool £2.80

Arsenal v Norwich

Arsenal clean sheet:

Arsenal  defence:  8 goals conceded in first 7 games and 1 clean sheets.   Pretty good underlying stats.  they have just not been able to convert these to clean sheets.  I rate their defence 11th overall

Norwich  attack: 5 goals scored in 7 games.  Terrible underlying stats.

Norwich  clean sheet:

Norwich   defence: 9 goals conceded in their first 7 games and 2 clean sheets.  Underlying stats  are poor.  14th ranked defence overall by me

Arsenal attack:  14 goals in 7 games and only Chelsea and City have better underlying stats.  Even with creative injuries and Ozil are a doubt they are strong offensively

Verdict:   Arsenal clean sheet

Arsenal will score.  I can see Arsenal also getting a long overdue CS against a poor attack.

William Hill clean sheet verdict:  Arsenal £1.85 Norwich £8.00

Chelsea v Cardiff City

Chelsea clean sheet:

Chelsea defence:  4 goals conceded in first 7 games with 3 clean sheets.  Underlying stats are only bettered by City and CHelsea and I rate them as having the 2nd best defence overall

Cardiff  attack: 7 goals in 7 games and close to the worst  underlying stats.

Cardiff  clean sheet:

Cardiff  defence: 9 goals conceded in their first 7  games and 1 clean sheet.  Underlying stats are poor and I rate them the 16th best defence overall

Chelsea  attack:  10 goals in 7 games and best underlying stats.

Verdict:   Chelsea clean sheet

Chelsea will definitely score no matter who is striker. I can’t see Cardiff penetrating such a strong defence with such a poor attack

William Hill clean sheet verdict:  Chelsea £1.75  Cardiff £9.00

Everton v Hull City

Everton clean sheet:

Everton defence:  9 goals conceded in first 7 games and 3 clean sheets at home.  7 in the last 3 though.  Underlying stats  are still very good and I rate them the 9th best defence overall

Hull   attack: 6 goals in 7 games and pretty ordinary underlying stats.

Hull  clean sheet:

Hull defence: 7 goals conceded in their first 7  games and 3 clean sheets.    Underlying stats though aren’t that great but difficult fixtures.  I rank them 10th overall

Everton attack:  10 goals in 7 games.  They have Lukaku

Verdict:    Everton clean sheet

Everton will get the clean sheet their stats deserve against a pretty ordinary attack.  Hull wont stop the Lukaku led attack

William Hill verdict:  Everton £1.85  Hull  £6.00

Man Utd v Southampton

Man Utd clean sheet:

Man Utd defence:  9 goals conceded in first 7 games and 2 clean sheets.    Underlying stats  are pretty good though. I rank them the 12th best defence so far overall although they have good underlying stats

Southampton attack: 7 goals in 7 games and  mid table underlying stats.

Southampton clean sheet:

Southampton defence: 2 goals conceded in their first 7  games and 5 clean sheets.   Good underlying stats and I rank their defence 2nd only to Spurs.

Man Utd attack:  10 goals in 7 games and great underlying stats

Verdict:     no clean sheets

I think Uniteds attack will be too good and will score but the united defence will be too poor to keep a clean sheet

William Hill clean sheet verdict:  Man Utd £2.25  Southampton £6.00

Stoke City v WBA

Stoke clean sheet:

Stoke defence:  7 goals conceded in first 7 games and 2 clean sheets.  Underlying stats  are  in the mid table.  I rate them the  8th best defence overall

WBA attack: 7 goals in 7 games and mid table underlying stats.

WBA clean sheet:

WBA defence:  6 goals in 7 games and 2 clean sheet.   Underlying stops are top third.   I rate them as the 7th best defence.

Stoke attack:  4 goals in 7 games and pretty poor  underlying stats.  No real striker in any sort of form

Verdict:      2 clean sheets

The Stoke attack is looking pretty poor at the moment and I think they will defend well enough for it to be nil nil

William Hill clean sheet Verdict:   Stoke £2.50  WBA £3.40

Swansea v Sunderland

Swansea clean sheet:

Swansea  defence:  11 goals conceded in first 7 games and  2 clean sheets.   Pretty ordinary underlying stats but have had tough fixtures. I rate the defence overall at 15

Sunderland attack: 5 goals in 7 games and pretty poor underlying stats.  Fletcher looking available

Sunderland clean sheet:

Sunderland defence: 16 goals conceded in their first 7  games and 0 clean sheets.    Underlying stats are poor to say the least. I rate their defence 19 overall

Swansea  attack:  8 goals in 7 games.    Underlying stats are pretty good considering the fixtures.

Verdict:      no clean sheets

Swansea will definitely score and I think their defence is shaky enough especially at home to concede

William Hill clean sheet verdict:  Swansea £2.15   Sunderland £5.50

West Ham v Man City

West Ham clean sheet:

West Ham defence:  5 goals conceded in first 7 games and 4 clean sheets. Underlying stats   are top third.  I rate their defence as the 4th best overall

Man City attack:  17 goals in 7 games and 2nd best sets of underlying stats.

Man City clean sheet:

Man City  defence: 8 goals conceded in their first 7  games and 3 clean sheets.    Underlying stats are very good though.  No Kompany is a negative though.

West Ham attack:  7 goals in 7 games.    Underlying stats are mid table

Verdict:     No clean sheet

City are just too good not to score despite some issues away from home.   Even with an ordinary attack I can see West ham scoring given City’s troubles away from home and no Kompany

William Hill clean verdict:  West Ham £5.00 Man City £2.37

Aston Villa v Spurs

Villa Clean sheet

Villa defence:  8 goals conceded in first 7 games and 2 clean sheets.  Underlying stats  are a mid table defence.  I’ve ranked them 13th overall

Spurs attack: 6 goals in 7 games but have good underlying stats

Spurs clean sheet:

Spurs defence: 5 goals conceded in their first 7  games and 4 clean sheets.    Underlying stats are bettered only by City.  I’ve ranked them best defence overall though.

Villa attack :  9 goals in 7 games.    mid table underlying stats.  Benteke doubtful

Verdict:     no  clean sheet

Spurs defence is doing well but i can still see Villa scoring.  Spurs I think will score even despite their scoring troubles

William Hill verdict:  Villa £4.20  Spurs £2.60

Crystal Palace v Fulham

Palace Clean sheet

Palace defence:  13 goals conceded in first 7 games and 0 clean sheets.  Underlying stats  are terrible.  Ive ranked them the worst defence in the league

Fulham attack: 5 goals in 7 games and pretty much the worst  underlying stats of any team.

Fulham clean sheet:

Fulham defence: 9 goals conceded in their first 7  games and 2 clean sheets.    Underlying stats are hopeless

Palace attack :  5 goals in 7 games.     Hopeless underlying stats

Verdict:      no clean sheets

Are the defences more hopeless than the hopeless attacks.  I think so

William Hill clean sheet verdict:  Palace £3.00 Fulham  £3.10
