fantasy premier league clean sheet tips GW19

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s our fantasy premier league clean sheet tips GW19 article.  Here we rank the clean sheet prospects for each team in GW19 by comparing each teams defence in gameweek 19 compared to the attacking rank of the opponent.  Both attack and defence ranking use a mixture of actual and underlying stats.  We also give you one of the bookies odds for clean sheets and rank them in order to give you another view.  I hope you find it interesting and useful in deciding the lineup for your team.

Firstly here’s the Fixtures

fpl..gw19fixtures

We go through each team by the clean sheet rank I’ve given them.  We calculated that in a very basic way.  We’ve compared the rank of the teams defence vs the rank of the opponents attack.  As I said it’s a bit basic and it doesn’t differentiate between home and away or recent circumstances.  Thats why we’ve put the clean sheet odds for GW19 of one bookie as another point of reference. We’ve also given you the rank of those odds for each of the teams.  The clean sheet odds are the amount won for £1 invested.  The odds are of Monday 28th when I wrote the article.  Hope thats clear.  In ranking the bookies, if the odds are the same for 2 or more teams, I’ve followed my ranking.  As I’ve used stats over the season sometimes recent circumstances wont be factored in.  Thats why it’s worth looking at the bookies odds and especially the outliers as another view and looking at the narrative under the heading “general points on teams”.  There’s also a lot of form information in my article “the best defences and defenders”

FFGeek vs the bookies

I’m scoring myself v the bookies by ranking the clean sheets actually acheived vs the rank of the prediction. The combined rank being the lowest wins. This week it was a bumper week for clean sheets with 8 to  Stoke, Bournemouth, C Palace, Liverpool, Spurs, Swansea, Everton and Southampton.  My rank of the clean sheets were in that order (8,16,10,14,2,4,11,15).  The bookies were (10,9,13,11,3,4,12,15).  My total was 80 the bookies 77.  So the bookies won narrowly this week thanks to their faith in Bournemouth.  Ill keep a running total

Last week

Looking at how the outliers from the bookies odds where my rank and theirs were different by more than 5 ranks  There were 5

The bookies favoured Chelsea home to Watford, Villa home to West Ham and Bournemouth home to C Pal more than me.  Only Bournemouth got a clean sheet so 2 to me there.

I favoured WBA at Swansea and Watford at Chelsea more than the bookies.  I didn’t think a Watford clean sheet was possible but lost the WBA aspect so 1 to the bookies there.

This week

No games with odds under £2.00.   Down to 10 places is £3.10 which seems normal.

Looking at the outliers from the bookies odds where my rank and theirs is different by more than 5 ranks  There are 4

The bookies favour Everton home to Stoke and Man City away to Leicester more than me.   I’ll take all of those on

I favour Newcastle away at WBA and Stoke at Everton more than the bookies.  I’m not so sure about Stoke at Everton but I’ll take Newcastle at WBA.

General points on teams

ManUtd have defensive injuries and a loss of defensive form.  The Norwich defensive performance as well as the Stoke game were embarrasing.  Darmian although still a doubt may return which could at least consign Young to the bench.

Man City have yet to keep a clean sheet without Vincent Kompany.  He’s injured his calf againand not expected to play.

Palace CB’s Delaney and Dann are injury concerns but expected to play.

Skrtels injury for Liverpool didn’t seem to effect them against Leicester

Tomkins and Cresswell are both injury doubts for West Ham.  Reid is also injured which is crucial.  West Ham with a number of injuries in attack and  are shutting up shop.  Pelle is out for West Ham but after Longs performance that may not be an issue.

Everton’s CB Jagielka injury is an issue for them.

CDM Coquelin’s injury seems to be affecting their defensive solidity.  Possible rotation today as well.

There is some prospect that CB Richards could return for Villa which would help them significantly

Leicester have Vardy potentially out through illness which would help Man Citys prospects especially with their high line defence

Kaboul remains injured for Sunderland.  It’s a sign of how poor they are that the Spurs reject is so key.

Just a reminder as you can see from the odds that it’s very difficult to predict clean sheets and often there are only 5 or so clean sheets out of 20 teams playing so it’s not a silver bullet.

Good luck with your selections
