fantasy premier league clean sheet tips GW20

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s our fantasy premier league clean sheet tips GW20 article.  Here we rank the clean sheet prospects for each team in GW20 by comparing each teams defence in gameweek 20 compared to the attacking rank of the opponent.  Both attack and defence ranking use a mixture of actual and underlying stats.  We also give you one of the bookies odds for clean sheets and rank them in order to give you another view.  I hope you find it interesting and useful in deciding the lineup for your team.

Firstly here are the fixtures:

fpl..gw20fixtures2

We go through each team by the clean sheet rank I’ve given them.  We calculated that in a very basic way.  We’ve compared the rank of the teams defence vs the rank of the opponents attack.  As I said it’s a bit basic and it doesn’t differentiate between home and away or recent circumstances.  Thats why we’ve put the clean sheet odds for GW20 of one bookie as another point of reference. We’ve also given you the rank of those odds for each of the teams.  The clean sheet odds are the amount won for £1 invested.  The odds are of when I wrote the article.  Hope thats clear.  In ranking the bookies, if the odds are the same for 2 or more teams, I’ve followed my ranking.  As I’ve used stats over the season sometimes recent circumstances wont be factored in.  Thats why it’s worth looking at the bookies odds and especially the outliers as another view and looking at the narrative under the heading “general points on teams”.  There’s also a lot of form information in my article “the best defences and defenders”

FFGeek vs the bookies

I’m scoring myself v the bookies by ranking the clean sheets actually acheived vs the rank of the prediction. The combined rank being the lowest wins. This week it was an incredible week for clean sheets with 10 to   C Palace,  Swansea, Norwich, WBA, Arsenal, Man Utd, Chelsea, Leicester, Man City and Liverpool.   My rank of the clean sheets were in that order (3,15,11,6,2,5,8,19,17.1).  The bookies were (4,14.7,5,1,9,11,19,10,2).  My total was 87 the bookies 82.  So the bookies won narrowly this week.  The running total has the bookies winning at 157 vs 167

Looking at how the outliers from the bookies odds where my rank and theirs were different by more than 5 ranks  There were 4

The bookies favoured Everton home to Stoke and Man City away to Leicester more than I did.  I won one of those the bookies the other.

I favoured Newcastle away at WBA and Stoke at Everton more than the bookies did.  I wasn’t sure about Stoke at Everton but took Newcastle at WBA and lost that one.

This week

2 games with odds under £2.00.   Down to 10 places is £2.90 which is better than normal.

Looking at the outliers from the bookies odds where my rank and theirs is different by more than 5 ranks  There are 3

I favour Palace over Chelsea more than the bookies and Swansea over Man Utd more than the bookies.  I’ll take both of those on

The bookies favour Chelsea over Palace more than me.  I’ll take that on.

General points on teams

ManUtd continue to have defensive injuries and a loss of defensive form although that was arrested somewhat by the clean sheet vs  Chelsea.

Man City kept their first clean sheet without Vincent Kompany.  He’s injured his calf again and not expected to play for 3-4 weeks.

Newcastle will hope to have GK Rob Elliot back for the Arsenal game.  The mind boggles over what could happen if young Darlow is in goal again

Skrtel remains injured for Liverpool but it’s 2 clean sheets in 2 without him

Expect Rotation from the Arsenal defence but Koscielny should play which will strengthen it

Jagielka not expected to be back for Everton which won’t help but Baines should play after Galloway was burned time and time again by Shaqiri last week.

O’Shea and Coates doubts for Sunderland.  Kaboul out.  I know at least 2 sound like they will strengthen the Sunderland defence but probably not going to be the case sadly.

Delaney still a doubt for Palace although the Swansea clean sheet was without him.

Reid out and Cresswell a doubt for West Ham

Soares out for Southampton although probably more of an attacking rather than defensive loss.

Olsson doubtful for WBA which could prevent the back 3 successful against Newcastle.

Just a reminder as you can see from the odds that it’s very difficult to predict clean sheets and often there are only 5 or so clean sheets out of 20 teams playing so it’s not a silver bullet.

Good luck with your selections
