Fantasy Premier League

Here’s our fantasy premier league clean sheet tips GW21 article.  Here we rank the clean sheet prospects for each team in gameweek 21 by comparing each teams defence in gameweek 21 compared to the attacking rank of the opponent.  Both attack and defence ranking use a mixture of actual and underlying stats.  We also give you one of the bookies odds for clean sheets and rank them in order to give you another view.  I hope you find it interesting and useful in deciding the lineup for your team.

Firstly here are the fixtures:

fpl..gw21fixtures

We go through each team by the clean sheet rank I’ve given them.  We calculated that in a very basic way.  We’ve compared the rank of the teams defence vs the rank of the opponents attack.  As I said it’s a bit basic and it doesn’t differentiate between home and away or recent circumstances.  Thats why we’ve put the clean sheet odds for GW21 of one bookie as another point of reference. We’ve also given you the rank of those odds for each of the teams.  The clean sheet odds are the amount won for £1 invested.  The odds are of when I wrote the article.  Hope thats clear.  In ranking the bookies, if the odds are the same for 2 or more teams, I’ve followed my ranking.  As I’ve used stats over the season sometimes recent circumstances wont be factored in.  Thats why it’s worth looking at the bookies odds and especially the outliers as another view and looking at the narrative under the heading “general points on teams”.  There’s also a lot of form information in my article “the best defences and defenders”

FFGeek vs the bookies

So here’s how our ranking of the clean sheets last week compared.  Another win for the bookies and a bit of a lead now.

Team FFG Rank Bookies rank
1 West Ham1616
2 Arsenal22
3 Leicester77
4 Bournemouth2017
5 Norwich1814
6 Chelsea103
Total7359
 total to date167157
 Running total CF240216

Looking at how the outliers from the bookies odds where my rank and theirs were different by more than 5 ranks  There were 3

I favoured Palace over Chelsea more than the bookies and Swansea over Man Utd more than the bookies.  I lost both of these

The bookies favour Chelsea over Palace more than me.  They won that one as well

This week

1 games with odds under £2.00.   Down to 10 places is £3.10 which is  normal.

Looking at the outliers from the bookies odds where my rank and theirs is different by more than 5 ranks  There are a massive 7

I favour Palace, Arsenal, West Ham and Watford more than the bookies.  Not sure about Watford but I’ll take the rest on

The bookies favour Man City, Bournemouth and Villa more than me.  I’ll take all those on.

General points on teams

Liverpool look like Lovren, Sakho and Skrtel will be missing giving only Toure as the fit CB

Coleman is injured for Everton with no return date

Jones Rojo and Shaw are injured for United.  The back 4 will probably be Young, Blind, Smalling and Darmian

Elphick could be back for Bournemouth although hard to see him starting.  Whether that will improve things or unsettle the settled remains to be seen

Cedric could be back for Saints.  Whether that will help the defence remains to be seen as he is more of an attacking threat if selected

Kompany remains out for City.  They’ve only got 1 clean sheet in 12 games without him

Kaboul remains out for Sunderland.  It will be interesting if Big Sam can conclude any signings by then

Reid should be back for West Ham.  That should strengthen them

Wisdom should be back for Norwich.  If selected that would mean Martin back to CB.  Again questionable about the improvement

Just a reminder as you can see from the odds that it’s very difficult to predict clean sheets and often there are only 5 or so clean sheets out of 20 teams playing so it’s not a silver bullet.

Good luck with your selections
