fantasy premier league defender player rankings GW1
Generally you’ll be looking to put 1 or 2 or even 3 premium defenders in your team and supplement them with 2 or 3 rotating cheap players. Therefore it’s worth reading this article in conjunction with my 2 team defensive rotation article and my 3 team rotation article
I’ve firstly ordered the teams buy what I think is their defensive strength from last season with adjustments for transfers completed. Then I’ve added their fixture ease ranking so you can see who has the best fixtures over 3 different periods. In the next column I’ve given a cheap option and an attacking option so you can compare price. That means you are then able to choose the type of defender you like in your team.
The next column looks at a potentially cheaper player who I have at least some doubts over whether they will start. I’ve put a % of likelihood they will start next to their name. There are also * next to some players. There are explanations as to why below the schedule.
Next, I’ve put the GK price in as a comparison. I’ve left 1 blank as Eddie Howe has hopefully said enough to make Begovic a doubt vs Boruc
Lastly there’s the bookies odds for a clean sheet for the first match
* Davies will take the LB position until Rose is fit. That will be until around GW4 although Rose’s returns have been pushed back a number of times
*Danilo will probably only start short term until Mendy is fit. That will probably be GW2
* RB Alexander-Arnold looks fairly certain to start GW1 but Clyne could be back GW2.
* CB Holding should start GW1. However I think the first choice back 3 is likely to be Mustafi-Koscielny-Monreal which could be a few gameweeks away
*CB Huth is not back until GW4. There is a school of thought that at that stage Maguire could potentially move to RB but it is speculation.
Man Utd, Man City, Spurs, Liverpool and Southampton all have good fixtures and defensive strength and are a good place to start for the non £4.5m defenders.
