APPROACH & STAT DEFINITIONS
Generally you’ll be looking to put 1 or 2 or even 3 premium defenders in your team and supplement them with 2 or 3 cheap players.
I’ve firstly ordered the teams buy what I think is their defensive strength from last season with adjustments for transfers completed and GW1. The stats after that are their:
- fixture ease ranking so you can see who has the best fixtures over 2 different periods.
- best cheap secure gametime option and an attacking option so you can compare price. That means you are then able to choose the type of defender you like in your team.
- even potentially cheaper player who needs further explanation which is below the schedule
- GK price in as a comparison.
- bookies odds for a clean sheet for GW2
- Cumulative team expected goals defensively from 11tegen11. The lower the better

Jones Man Utd – Jones partnered Bailly as a CB. I think Bailly is secure but he’s £6.0m. Jones has competition from Smalling and new exp[ensive signing Lindelof. He seems safe for now it’s just rotation and longevity
Davies and Kyle Walker Peters Spurs – both players are in due to injuries and will be replaced then. Trippier for KWP still has no return date. Rose is supposedly GW4
Otamendi ManCity – If Man City play 3 at the back Stones and Otamendi will play. If they go to 4 it’s a question of who will partner Otamendi. Who knows with Pep but the fact that Stones played in the effective reserve team friendly last night may signal that Otamendi is ahead.
Rudiger – Cahill is banned for 3 games which should give Rudiger the opening at least until then
Moreno and Trent Alexander Arnold Liverpool- both cheapies played against Watford. TAA is in due to Clyne’s injury. He could be back soon. Moreno is holding the place on merit ahead of Milner and Roberston. He isn’t the most reliable of players so you take him on at risk
Hegazi WBA – will remain unchallenged for the CB role until McAuley is fit. Thats not until GW4. Evans could return this week but I think Dawson will just move to RB
Ogbonna West Ham – I’m surprised Fonte didn’t play. I’m not sure if this is due to the Confed Cup or a selection issue
Mbemba – the Newcastle team has injuries to LB, RB and a CB so Mbemba could sneak in if Lascelles plays LB
Suggested players
Looking for a strong defence with a good GW2 fixtures and then ones going forward Man Utd and Southampton look the best options. Cedric and Jones are both good value at £5.0m.
None of the £4.5m’s scream transfer me in. Moreno could be worth a punt despite the truly awful defensive performance against Watford
