Fantasy premier league DGW22 – Spurs Mids – Alli, Eriksen or Son?

Overview

Son as I write this is £8.0m, Alli £9.0m and Eriksen £9.3m

Spurs in the upcoming gameweek GW21 have no game.

I imagine most readers here will either have Harry Kane in their team now or have a plan to get him back for DGW22.  However I also imagine many will be wondering whether to get in an additional Spurs attacker given the great fixtures in the double gameweek.  However many will think that Harry Kane, especially given the fixtures afterwards,  and even more so if you’re triple captaining Kane, that there’s enough Spurs exposure already.

Here’s the upcoming fixtures.  They played Southampton on the 26 December.

GW21 None
Swansea (A) GW22  – Jan 2
West Ham (H) GW22 – Jan 4
Everton (H) – Jan 13
Southampton (A)
Man Utd (H)
Liverpool (A)
Arsenal (H)

They play an FA Cup game v AFC Wimbledon on Jan 7.

Spurs form

Spurs have finally come alive winning 4 of their last 5 with the loss against Man City.  They’ve scored 16 goals in the process.  After a stuttering campaign it seems that now can be the time to invest in Spurs attackers.

One point to note though is that after the DGW22 the fixtures are difficult.  An exit of Spurs attacking players after DGW22, apart from Kane, will probably be uppermost in many managers minds.

Player gametime

There are 7 days between Spurs’s GW20 match against Southampton and the first of the DGW22 games.  Then there are 2 days between the 2 matches which is short.  However after that there isn’t another PL game for 11 days with only a fixture against a team 2 leagues below them in the FA Cup which is perfect for resting players.

To me that seems the perfect recipe to avoid mass rotation in the 2 double gameweek fixtures.  However that’s a difficult statement to make given the time between the 2 games.  Pochettinho has probably rotated his key players less than others if that means anything.  Son and Alli are probably more interchangeable than anyone with Eriksen who’s the lead creator in the side and difficult to replace.  Son is the guy you would expect to go out of the team if Pochettino plays 3-4-2-1.  However the last 7 fixtures have seen a back 4 which enables Spurs to play 3 attacking midfielders.  Son has played in 6 of those 7 matches. That back 4 formation may not change until Alderweireld is fit which won’t be until February

Son has played 1,113 minutes in the PL and 1,626 minutes in total

Alli has played 1,571 minutes in the PL and 2019 minutes in total

Eriksen has played 1699 minutes in the PL and 2063 minutes in total

Eriksen wins the gametime category

Interesting Spurs supporter Joseph Crilley in his GW20 review discusses Spurs and thinks Son is the least likely to play 2 games in DGW22

THE TV TEST

To me Eriksen is the deeper of the 2 players and both Alli and Son play as virtual support strikers.  I like both Son and Alli although I think Son gets into goalscoring positions more

 SUMMARY AND FFGEEK CHOICE

So Eriksen wins out on gametime and minutes plus consistency, bonus points and set pieces.

Son has the best returns and is the most explosive with the best underlying stats.  He’s also the cheapest.  Alli is based on recent form.

I would say Eriksen maybe the safest gametime choice.  Alli and Son both offer decent point potential but Son has shown to be the most rotatable.

At the moment I’m thinking I may go with Son and just take the gametime risk.  I like the underlying stats principally.  I am a big Alli fan though but Son means I can keep Richarlison to get in Arnautovic whereas getting in Alli would mean a sacrifice of Richarlison instead of Loftus Cheek who I can see the end of more easily.

The good thing is there’s still a few days pontificating time!
