fantasy premier league DGW28 – the bandwagons and sinking ships

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s our fantasy premier league DGW28 article where we look at the bandwagons and sinking ships ie the most transferred in and out players so far in the gameweek.  It’s DGW28 with Spurs and QPR those with 2 games.

The Bandwagons

These are the 5 most transferred in players so far in the gameweek in order

Eriksen

No surprises here with Spurs having a double gameweek.  With every active player pretty much having Harry Kane he’s the obvious attacking player to buy given the lack of production in the other Spurs midfield options.  I’ve said it many times that he will be a dangerous player not to own given that Eriksen Hazard and Sanchez are leaders in the 10+ FPL point hauls in the season.  He also has the monopoly on set pieces and direct free kicks.  With Spurs playing Swansea H and QPR A the fixtures are good for the DGW and afterwards.  Did play 90 minutes in the Capital One Cup final so given the size of the Spurs squad it’s possible he wont play both games.  With only 4th place in the League to play for Pochettinho may push the envelope on Eriksens fitness though.  It’s just whether you think that this risk mitigates the risk of not playing him sufficently.

Austin

With QPR also having a DGW28 Austin is probably the obvious person to get from a QPR perspective.  Has been pretty a pretty consistent returner of goals and assists returning one or the other in 57% of games which is excellent for the price.  However recent form has been more questionable with 1 goal and 1 assist in his last 4.  The fixtures for the DGW aren’t that easy either with Arsenal and Spurs at home.  Austin does have pens though which is an advantage.  He’s also a natural swap if you’ve got Defoe.

Danny Rose

The cheap defensive option with good attacking potential in the Spurs defence and it seems he is the favourite defender to be transferred in.  Did play the full 90 minutes in the Capital One Cup final and does have Ben Davies as a rotation option so no certainty will play both games.  It’s just whether you think the relatively cheap price plus his attacking potential and the good fixtures after the DGW28 make that risk worth while

Kane

Hard to believe so many people still don’t own him given his form, price and ownership among the leading and active players.  Will probably be the captain favourite and even with the rotation risk with Adebayor and Soldado impossible to not own for the DGW28

Coutinho

2 goals in the last 2 games has brought him to the attention of FPL managers.  Consistency of returns depends how you look at it.  Over the season it’s a pretty ordinary at 7 returning games in 24 which is 29%.  However if you isolate the last 11 it’s 7/11 games which is a pretty spectacular 64%.  No real underlying shooting or creating chances stats over the season although creating over the last 4 games has sneaked up.  Can he keep scoring from distance is a definite question?

Whatever you think if you’re going to buy him now is the time to do so with Burnley at home next

The Sinking Ships

The 5 most transferred out players so far in the gameweek

Di Maria

Afetr being absolutely awful for 45 minutes against Sunderland was substituted for Januzaj who made a very good impression.  Given LVGs lack of respect for reputation then it wouldn’t be a surprise if he was dropped for the next fixture.  Pretty mixed fixtures and Uniteds awful form despite their league position hardly gives an incentive to hold.

Newcastle (A)
Spurs (H)
Liverpool (A)
Aston Villa (H)
Man City (H)
Chelsea (A)

Ings

A blank against Swansea makes it 2 consecutive games without a return.  A natural target to transfer out if you’re looking for Austin or Kane as well.  The fixtures couldn’t be much worse either.

Liverpool (A)
Man City (H)
Southampton (A)
Spurs (H)
Arsenal (H)
Everton (A)

Clichy

With City only having 1 clean sheet in the last 10 and Clichy not playing in the last 3 then it’s only a surprise why it’s taken so long to be sold in numbers although to be fair the fixtures have been very good.  Not sure I would have sold before Leicester and Burnley at home.

Leicester (H)
Burnley (A)
West Brom (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
Man Utd (A)
West Ham (H)

Downing

With 1 assist in his last 5 and Chelsea and Arsenal next if there ever was a time to sell now it’s now.  Underlying stats have dropped off as well and Joey Baron pretty much creates the same chances per minute.

Chelsea (H)
Arsenal (A)
Sunderland (H)
Leicester (A)
Stoke (H)
Man City (A)

Sanchez

Well well well the first signs of dissent in the ranks from FPL managers.  4 games without a return is enough to create a wobble for any player let alone one who costs £11.4m and has options among the team in Ozil who got 2 assists on the weekend and Cazorla.  The ownership among leading and active managers is very high and with QPR next and other reasonable fixtures it’s a big gamble.
