Here’s my view for the fantasy premier league DGW34 best defenders and defences. It’s a new format with more info to help you make an assessment for your team. I’ve used a number of stats, actual and underlying. I’ve kept with the blended home and away version rather than splitting them out. There’s also the premium attacking defender and the value defender plus the recent clean sheet form. We’ve also added the best fixtures to the end of the season and reminded you of who has double gameweeks and blanks
fantasy premier league DGW34 best defenders and defences
I’ve provided the information in a very simple table form with a few general notes below and an attempted explanation for any surprises. I’ve tried to sacrifice some value and attacking where there isn’t a decent amount of gametime security. Obviously in the top 4 challenging teams the squad sizes and the number of games sees that rotation can be a risk so it’s impossible to be 100% .
I’ve also added my fixture ease ranking as a proxy for defensive fixtures although it is intended as an attacking fixture check.
The stats are over the season although clean sheets over the last 6 are a proxy for recent form.
In the narrative I’ve tried to deal with a cheapie watch and injury issues which will help you make an assessment on your view of the best transfer. I also touch on the GKs where relevant.

Tottenham – Alderweireld is the absolute certainty as well as the attacking and bonus point force. However there are signs that rotation will stop in the run to the title and that means gambling on the full backs Walker and Rose now looks less risky. Dier looks to have cemented a CDM place.
Arsenal – Gabriels nightmare performance against West Ham has to have raised doubts about whether he will start in DGW34
Man Utd – Rojo has started the last 2 and you have to give him a good chance of starting in DGW34. Otherwise it’s back to Smalling or GK DeGea.
Man City – With Kompany surprisingly looking to return it’s back to Otamendi and the GK Hart as the only certainties.
Leicester – Simpson is the cheapie. Then it’s a choice between the attacking potential of Huth and the bonus magnet that is Fuchs
Liverpool – With Liverpool through to the Europa League semi’s and Klopp having rested both CBs in GW33 anything is possible to the end of the season. Clyne seems to be the most certain. However Mignolet if you want a GK has to be reasonably safe
Southampton – No value here with any certainty. It’s the £5.5m ish group of VVD, Bertrand and Fonte or no one.
Chelsea – Mass rotation due to the “experimental” lineups has shown that Azpili and Ivanovic are the only even remote certainties to line up
Watford – With Watford safe from relegation and in the FA Cup semis rotation is rife. Even the GK Gomes has to be a risk. Words from Flores about a 20 man squad don’t help the situation
WBA – Dawson is the limitless funds attacking option. With Olsson dropped and Chester only 2 games in it seems that the cheapie option is far from certain.
Everton – GK Robles at £4.3m is the choice here. With Jagielka injured you can risk Stones at £5.4m or go for the extra cost and certainty of Coleman at £5.9m
C Palace – It’s the £4.3m Delaney or Ward vs the attacking potential of Dann at £5.7m
Stoke – Wollscheid seems the nailed cheapie. Everyone else is a little hard to predict. With GK Butland out for the season Haugaard at £4.4m seems to be the replacement.
West Ham – Injuries have confused any cheapie options. Injuries and selections make any cheapie predictions difficult.
Swansea – Rangel should be the safe £4.1m cheapie but Williams is the bonus point monster and secure gametime option
Bournemouth – It’s the cheapie Francis vs the attacking potential and penalty duties of Daniels. Cook at £4.3m has been in the goals recently though
A Villa – An absolute defensive disaster in the worst possible form
Newcastle – GK Darlow is a cheap DGW GK. Injuries mean there is no value in the defence though unless you are gambling that Dumett will start and that is a big gamble
Sunderland – Kone has value and an attacking threat.
Norwich – A more defensive attitude giving solidity although it’s still very up and down. Klose’s injury doubt for this week not only removes the best defender but puts alot of doubt over their defensive solidity given his good performances this season
