So I’m not sure how it helps but Rashford started 3 as did Lingard and Pogba.  Mkhitaryan started both EL games.

Premier league gametime history and prospects

Lets just deal with the attacking players here and the defence later below.

Rashford forward £6.5m – started 4 of the last 5.  Generally plays close to 90 mins

Lingard Mid £5.6m – started all of the last 5 averaging 76 minutes.

Pogba Mid £8.2m – pretty much starts and plays 90 minutes when fit

Mkhitaryan Mid £8.8m – started 2 of the last 6.  Seems more crucial for the Europa League

Martial Mid £9.2m – started 1 of the last 5

Rooney forward £8.6m – started none of the last 5

I’m assuming Ibrahimovic is injured sufficiently to not be a factor in this gameweek.  There’s a short article here on the injury.

So Rashford and Lingard are worth analysing.  I’m not going to do so for Pogba despite the gametime security.  I just think he plays too deep and hasn’t scored or assisted for 10 games.

The issue with everyone though is rotation.  120 minutes yesterday for Rashford didn’t help his prospects for playing both games.  Lingard has some potential given he was subbed at 59 minutes although his propensity for being subbed is another negative.  Mourinho must think they have a real chance of winning the Europa League with only Ajax, Celta Vigo and Lyon left.  Will he prioritise it over the premier league?  Who knows but it will certainly get alot of attention. The semi finals are before and after GW36.

I’ll also include Martial and Rooney just as they have to be prospects to replace Ibrahimovic

Fixtures

Here’s the fixtures to the end of the season

Burnley (A) DGW34
Man City (A) DGW34
Swansea (H)
Arsenal (A)
Spurs (A) DGW37
Southampton (A) DGW37
Crystal Palace (H)

The bonus fixture for those with a wildcard is the Swansea game

The player options outlined

GK and Defence

Firstly the bookies see the Burnley game at £1.95 a very good chance of a clean sheet and no chance for the City game at £4.75. As I said above though the Swansea  GW35 game is a good bonus afterwards.

GK De Gea (£5.4m Points Per Match 3.8) should play both games as Romero is the designated GK for the Europa League which United are still in.

In defence LB is hopeless with either Young (who’s classified as a Mid), Shaw, Darmian  or Blind potentially who could play there although I imagine Blind will play CB with the injury to Rojo

RB will be Valencia or Darmain.  Valencia is first choice but Mourinho is making loads of tired, can’t play every game, noises so he’s not a viable current transfer.

CB is clearer.  £5.4m Bailly should play both games as CB as frankly there’s no one else.  He’s only started 18 premier league games so hopefully that will mean he can start without rotation for at least DGW34 and GW35.  You could go Blind as he’s the only real player left for CB but he’s only £0.2m cheaper so Bailly is worth the extra.

Midfield and Forwards

Firstly if I had to put money on who will start both games it would only be for Pogba.  As I said above for me he’s just too deep and expensive to be an option in my mind.  So in this section I’m going to compare basic stats on Rashford, Lingard, Martial and Rooney.  It’s important to look at the gametime section above and remember Martial and Rooney are only been assessed due to the Ibrahimovic injury.  I’ve assessed them in the same section as they’ve all played different positions

Here’s the basic stats.  I’ve had to change them as all 4 had so many sub appearances that some stats just didn’t work.  I think the headings should be self explanatory.  The mins per FPL point means how long it would take to earn an FPL point.  The lower the better.  Remember the bookies odds assume the player starts

Whats surprising is how bad the Rashford stats are.  Obviously he’s young and growing into the league but these are not good.  For some context Ibra gets an FPL point every 15 mins and a goal or assist every 102 mins.  Martials are very good surprisingly.

Here’s the squawka underlying stats:

Well it shows how good Ibras stats are.  Until you get to goal conversion obviously.

Rashford leads the way in the important shots in the box stat with good accuracy.  Nothing wrong with Martial or Rooneys stats as a comparison.  Rooneys shot accuracy will be down to a propensity to shoot from outside the area

Summary

Well the easy bit should be the defence and the GK.  I would expect GK £5.4m De Gea and CB £5.4m Bailly to play both games.  Everyone else is unlikely to play 2 in my mind.  There’s a good chance of a clean sheet in the Burnley game.  Man City will depend on how effective Mourinho’s bus is but it’s an outside chance rather than a probable one.

I wish I could be more positive over the midfielders and the attack.  The situation is made worse but Luke Shaw saying that Ibra was “fine” confuses matters.  However I’m going to assume he’s out for the moment.  Rashford is the natural replacement but having played 120 minutes and the last 3 games will he play both.  Lingard is a possible cheap option who could very well play both but his returns are pretty miserly to say the least and he is a magnet for being subbed.

Martial and Rooney in theory could replace Ibra.  However it’s a big leap compared to the gametime to date to expect them to start both.  Martials stats are interestingly pretty good.

Things look a bit different if you think of the games in 3 and include the Swansea game for GW35.  Then you have to give Rashford and Lingard a good chance to start 2 of the 3 games which makes it a bit more palatable.  Martial and Rooney who knows what will happen.

As for me I was seriously considering bringing in Bailly or De Gea before the Ibrahimovic injury.  I probably wont bring in Rashford as Ibra being injured leaves the need for an alternative double gameweek captain.  At the moment I’m leaning to Negredo for this.

Hope this help
