fantasy premier league DGW36 review – Friday and Saturdays games

West Ham 1 Spurs 0

This was the worst possible result for DGW37.  Chelsea can win the title now before Spurs even play again. Spurs only need 1 win to secure 2nd.  Who knows what effect that might have on gametime of the Chelsea and Spurs players.

This was a game all about £5.9m West Ham mid Lanzini who was terrific and scored the winner.  He also had could have had more.  I’ve been a bit dismissive of him as he often plays deeper than I would like but here he was advanced, central and broke forward on the counter effectively

The Spurs quartet of Alli, Eriksen, Kane and Son were very disappointing and created very little.  2 chances in the same move fell to Kane and Alli and either should have scored.  Maybe things would have been different if they had.

Generally though Eriksen has really upped his game in terms of getting in the box and this showed in this game.  Getting in the pen area is what Alli does and this game was no exception.  He just didn’t get the ball when he was there.

Son was the real disappointment.  Often too deep and too wide.

Man City 5 Palace 0

The centre back injuries came back to haunt Palace in what was a game that could easily have been a double figure win.  It’s rare to see a side so dominant with so many chances.  City’s issues are team selection.  However without Aguero or Stones selection becomes more certain although neither seem to be season ending injuries.

Despite the score the 2 City favourites of Sane and Jesus only recorded a single assist between them.  Sane had a hatful of chances but often at a tricky angle.  Jesus surprisingly didn’t really have that many chances.

The 2 City CBs scored from set pieces and Sterling also bagged 1.  However the result has to be disappointing for FPL managers unless you had those players or De Bruyne.  De Bruyne still plays quite wide.  Here a cross to Kompany provided the assist.  His goal was a poor save from Hennessey and the 3rd a set piece for Otamendi.

Palace offered little in attack although Benteke had one good headed chance.

Bournemouth 2 Stoke 2

The key players before this game for me were King of Bournemouth and Arnautovic  of Stoke.  King plays as a striker and Arnautovic although an LAM has some set piece duties and maybe pens plus he’s always getting into the box.  Today a pair of assists for Arnautovic should have been more as he missed an easy header.  King was quieter but made the most of his chances

Burnley 2 WBA 2

2 goals for Sam Vokes has to have cemented his position as CF.  He played the role of goal poacher very well getting into good positions close in goal for both his finished.  Barnes played less centrally and forward and was his chief provider with an assist

For WBA Rondon finally scored after I don’t know how many games of blanks.  Chadli was surpirsingly benched

Hull 0 Sunderland 2

Hull played 2 strikers in Niasse and Hernandez in a game they had to win.  Both had enough chances to score missing reasonable opportunities.

Grosicki although had little in tangible output is probably the most consistent threat.  Given his wide position and set pieces that’s more of an assist threat though.  With 2 guys who aren’t exactly clinical as strikers that makes it difficult to turn that into FPL points.

Defoe finally scored with a fairly lucky goal after a run of blanks and he deserved it for his endeavours.

Leicester 3 Watford 0

Last years big hitters Mahrez and Vardy turned it on here.  Vardy got a pair of assists.  The 2nd with a counter attack goal through his pass to cheapie Albrighton. Mahrez had a few chances and scored with what looked like a toe poke close in through Gomes’ legs.  It’s fair to say Albrighton did little apart from the goal

Watford didn’t do much but Capoue at least looked like he tried to get forward.  He was subbed early again on 66 minutes.

Swansea 1 Everton 0

Swansea striker Llorente showed his ability in the air with a goal and a near miss also with his head.  Those were his only chances.  Sigurdsson was surprisingly quiet given the importance of the game.  Lukaku had a couple of shots but overall was disappointing.  Barkley was a sub.
