I’ve amended the format of the spreadsheet again to be more user friendly. Here’s the link to the google spreadsheet if you want to play around with it

 Kane and Costa

Firstly it’s worth me mentioning that gametime wise this is one of the most difficult times of the year to predict. As I said in the midfielders article Chelsea can win the league at WBA on Friday and with the FA Cup Final the week after GW38 we could see Conte freshen up Costa with some rest. For that uncertainty I’ve omitted him from the spreadsheet.

As for Spurs they need a point to secure 2nd so I’ve omitted Kane as he is a risk for rest for the remaining games after that due to the huge number of games they’ve played at a high intensity this season.

I’m not saying you should sell them. I certainly won’t be. It’s just that in my mind they are questionable as a transfer target this week.

Again it doesn’t mean that it will necessarily happen it’s all about risk.  This is an article of transfer targets for the gameweek and if I only had 1 or 2 transfers I don’t think I would be bringing in Kane or Costa. Now there will be other players who are also at risk of not playing due to  nothing to play for.  However they won’t have played the number of games Spurs have and they don’t cost £10m plus and probably need a hit to get him in.  In any case I think most people know enough about Kane and Costa to make an assessment over the transfer irrespective of whether it’s in my rankings table.  I hope that helps explain the omission.

What it does show is the lack of good cheap alternatives in the striking department and there’s very little form and returns over the season in that group.

PLAYER COMMENTS

Jesus

The Man City forward is top of the transfers in for the 2nd week in a row.  Jesus has put up some great stats since he came into the league and has showed that he knows how to finish.   He also seems to have established that he will be the furtherest forward striker and Aguero will tend to drop off more. That should help Jesus’s easy goal percentage.

Manchester City still have Manchester United and Arsenal breathing down their necks for a top 4 Champions League spot. This is hugely important for the club.  He should be fairly gametime secure.

Captain polls say he should be a favourite for the captain armband in DGW37 and has great fixtures to the end of the season.

There’s no doubt he has a phenomenal record since coming to the premier league. The goals scored certainly suggest he knows how to put the ball in the net.

On the negative side you would probably say that he has had a very kind run of fixtures so we haven’t seen him against top quality opposition in the league. He also only got 1 assist in a 5-0 thrashing of Palace and didn’t have that many clear cut chances. Lastly, you would point to the amount of minutes played and say it’s a very small amount to judge him.

Fixtures from DGW37 to the end of the season:

Leicester (H) DGW37
West Brom (H) DGW37
Watford (A)

Vardy

Probably the leading player to have benefited from the sacking of Ranieri and the hiring of Shakespeare.  I can see DGW37 be ok for Vardy’s gametime as Shakespeare will select a full strength team to enhance his own job prospects for a permanent role.

7 goals and 5 assists in 10 games is a remarkable transformation.  The fixtures are difficult but that may suit Vardy who is more dangerous on the break.  Underlying stats aren’t particularly great is the only negative.

Fixtures from DGW37 to the end of the season:

Man City (A) DGW37
Spurs (H) DGW37
Bournemouth (H)

Lukaku

3 games with no returns and no DGW isn’t exactly a compelling argument for putting Lukaku in.  However his underlying stats over those weeks aren’t too bad and over the season they’re very good.  As is his home form.  Almost as good as Watford’s away form is bad.

This is really about what he could do in that game given the alternatives for a DGW forward spot.

Fixtures from DGW37 to the end of the season:

Watford (H)
Arsenal (A)

Llorente

Potentially 2 cup finals and a need to win is exactly what you want out of your players.  A desperate need to win so goals become paramount is also helpful.  Swansea are in a 2 way dogfight with Hull to avoid the last relegation spot and the incentive doesn’t get any bigger than that.  2 goals in his last 3 is good form but to say he’s a little inconsistent and his body language a little questionable is a bit of an understatement.

Underlying stats are reasonably good.

Fixtures from DGW37 to the end of the season:

Sunderland (A)
West Brom (H)

Gabbiadini

A big disappointment over the double gameweek and it’s now 3 games without a return although at least against Arsenal he played 90 minutes. The recent underlying stats aren’t that great.  A couple of good fixtures but minutes with other striking options and a dip in form are further negatives.

Fixtures from DGW37 to the end of the season:

Middlesbrough (A) DGW37
Man Utd (H) DGW37
Stoke (H)

Benteke

Another single gameweeker but one with a cup final relegation match against Hull at the weekend.  That desperate need to win is a great incentive at this time of year with the other fixture against a 2nd string Man Utd side preparing for the Europa League final.  3 games without a return isn’t great but 2 of those games were Man City and Spurs.  The good news though is even over those fixtures his underlying stats are good.

Fixtures from DGW37 to the end of the season:

Hull (H)
Man Utd (A)

Defoe

Finally broke a 10 game run of no returns with a late goal against Hull after Sunderland have been relegated.  The underlying stats haven’t been too bad over recent games but this is about a double gameweek available and little else

Fixtures from DGW37 to the end of the season:

Swansea (H) DGW37
Arsenal (A) DGW37
Chelsea (A)

Rondon

Another player who broke a huge run of blanks with a goal against Burnley last week.  Only the double gameweek to give you any reason to transfer him in

Fixtures from DGW37 to the end of the season:

Chelsea (H) DGW37
Man City (A) DGW37
Swansea (A)

Origi

His stats while on the pitch are pretty good even if his recent form isn’t.  2 good fixtures to go depending on how you view West Ham now that they are safe and not playing a London rival.  Recent underlying stats mirror that drop in form and are frankly terrible

Fixtures from DGW37 to the end of the season:

West Ham (A)
Middlesbrough (H)

Deeney

Had one of his occasional benchings last week.  No returns in his last 5.  Incredibly difficult fixtures.  Terrible underlying stats.  The ultimate double gameweek gamble.

Fixtures from DGW37 to the end of the season:

Everton (A) DGW37
Chelsea (A) DGW37
Man City (H)
