fantasy premier league DGWs – the checklist for this weekend – FEEDACK ADDED

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s the feedback from my fantasy premier league DGWs chacklist article for the weekend.  I’ve copied the article and given the feedback below each question in Italics so it’s easy to read.  A very interesting weekend.

So as I said above the questions are repeated with the observations below in italics.  There’s also a new sectiion on the implications for the FFGeek team at the end.

  1. The Liverpool defence

You’ll probably know by now that I believe that if there’s any truth any regression whatsoever then the excellent Liverpool underlying stats have to get clean sheets eventually. It’s just who of value will be in the starting lineup. I don’t really want Mignolet in goal if I can help it. I’d rather have Moreno £4.6m, Lovren £4.8 or Sakho £4.7m. Then I could potentially go for GKs Robles at £4.3m and £3.9m Darlow at a far cheaper price. The game against Spurs has to be the first team line up surely. I’ll be looking at the defensive lineup for Liverpool with interest

The Liverpool team lined up in a back 4 of Clyne £5.2m, Lovren £4.8m , Sakho £4.7m , Moreno £4.6m.  Thats probably as expected and a good start.  The problem still remains that the Dortmund games in the Europa League sandwich the Bournemouth league game which is riped for rotation.  Flanagan can cover both full backs and Skrtel and Toure the CB positions

2. Gabriel

The £4.3m Arsenal CB defender is just too good value to ignore. To be considered he must start against Watford. That doesn’t mean he’s still not rotatable but it does at least give the opportunity to roll that dice

Started and Arsenal kept a clean sheet.  Still with Mertesacker there is a rotation risk in the DGWs but it’s a good start

3. Roberto Firmino

The £8.3m Liverpool attacking mid is one of the key Liverpool attacking players for the DGWs given Sturridges injury record and Coutinho’s inconsistency. Given Liverpools great DGW schedule even checking on Milners starting position (admittedly his recent returns are good) is on the agenda.

Didn’t make it but Coutinho scored and looks an alternative.  The Thursday Europa League game will be another pointer as to Firmino’s fitness.

4. Aaron Lennon

Those considering the cheaper route into Everton’s midfield will want to at least see that the £5.6m Everton midfielder starts given the rotation possibilities in that midfield and with Mirallas back from a ban

Interestingly Lennon played alot further forward than Barkley with Barkley seemingly playing in the 2 of 4-2-3-1.  Neiether managed a shot.  So Barkley maybe less rotatable but he seems to be playing further back then when he was virtually support for Lukaku.  Both Lennon and Deulofeu were on the pitch which was also interesting with Lennon at at £5.6m

5. The Newcastle GK and defence

It seems £3.9m GK Darlow will start but needs checking. I really don’t want to pay £4.8m for a Newcastle defender but with £4.4m Coloccini and £4.2m Dummett out but back in the next week or 2, the picture is very cloudy. This maybe an over the whole week monitor thing.

The Newcastle defence lined up in a back 4 with £3.9m Darlow as GK then Janmaat £4.8m, S Taylor £3.8m Mbemba £4.9m and Anita a midfielder at LB. With £4.4m CB Coloccini to come back for GW33 and £4.2m LB Dummett to come back for DGW34 the picture is no clearer

6. Man City – Mangala, De Bruyne and Silva

The Man City trio are the other possibilities for Man City presence apart from Aguero given other form and rotation considerations. The form and recent betting bothers of Demichelis has to put the £5.3m CB Mangala in the best spot to partner £6.5m Otamendi. £10.2m mid De Bruyne should play some part in the City team against Bournemouth. Given his excellent (if somewhat spasmodic) form before an injury his minutes and position and how it effects the hopefully CAM position of £9.9m Silva will be under scrutiny. We also get the PSG UCL game to also make an assessment

Mangala started,  collecting a clean sheet.  De Bruyne scored and posted some excellent stats in his 56 minutes.  Silva created more chances but had less shooting stats and a deeper average position than De Bruyne.  He was also saved after 60 odd minutes

7. The Arsenal striker and Ozil v Sanchez

Welbeck starting this weekend surely ends any reason to start Giroud. If Welbeck at £7.3m starts then that does have the potential to add another cheapish striking option to the mix although one that will surely continue to have rotation risk

Despite significant minutes for both during the international break and a whole lot of travelling by Sanchez it would be a surprise if they both don’t start against Watford. These performances may determine our decision of who to run with given questionable recent form of both players

Sanchez overwhemingly won this with a goal and an assist collecting all 3 bonus points vs Ozil’s blank.  Ozil has now blanked in his last 4 consecutive games.  However his shooting and creating chances stats for this game were ok.

£4.5m mid Iwobi interestingly had excellent shooting and creating chances stats and has started the last 2 scoring in both games.  He does have alot of competition though but did his chances no harm.

Welbeck started possibly ending Girouds position but blanked.  Has to be a rotation risk.  However rotation as an issue is questionable.  Arsenal have no other distractions and need to win every game to win the league.

8. The WBA defence

To have any chance of representation in the DGW mix after no clean sheet against the toothless Norwich team surely a clean sheet against Sunderland has to be a pre-requisite. Also the only value is £4.3m Olsson and has to start for them even to be considered given the fixtures for me.

WBA got the clean sheet but unfortunately £4.3m CB Olsson didn’t start.  Chester started at LB in a back 4.  Evans though at £4.5m isn’t much dearer and seems safe

9. West Ham – Lanzini, Antonio and a striker

£4.9m Lanzini and £5.4m Antonio are 2 of the better cheap mids to add to the DGW mix. Hopefully both start and with CB/RB Tomkins back Antonio can move into a midfield position rather than RB. Also who will start upfront, Sakho, Valencia or Emineke and will it mean anything due to rotation. The situation is complicated and even distorted by Valencia’s international break exertions and arrival back. Sakho would be the best option for going forward.

Lanzini started and scored and looks great value.  Surprisingly Tomkins was on the bench and Antonio continued at RB.  No returns for Antonio but posted good stats. However a RB as a midfielder is a bit of a leap of faith.  Sakho started upfront with Emineke and posted some good stats for his 60 minutes or so.

10. Man Utd – Lingard and Rojo

The £4.3m mid of Lingard is the perfect cheap 5th midfielder for value and to keep some sort of traditional cheap midfield structure. If he starts as a number 10 so much the better. It’s essential that Rojo starts against Everton for him to be considered. Shaw starting the slow road back to fitness could cause some issues further along in the gameweeks.

Lingard started again as a CAM although he did blank and got a Yellow card to boot.  Very quiet game attacking output wise although the game was a complete stinker.  Rojo started but had a bit of a nightmare and was subbed at half time.  With Blind as a midfielder and Darmian not really an LVG favourite that leaves the very expensive £6.5m CB Smalling and £5.8m GK De Gea as the only secure defensive options.  Not good with home games to 2 of the worst attacking sides in Villa and Palace.  Unfortunately the West Ham FA Cup replay is next week so that won’t help

Villas capitulation to an experimental Chelsea team means that Martial or maybe even Rashford depending on Rooneys progress maybe an option for a Kane replacement

11. C Palace – The Striker position

2 double gameweeks are an attraction for any player. The lack of a credible cheap striker for GW34 means that even goal shy Palace are under srutiny. It seems that it will be either Wickham or Adebayor who will lead the line. Unfortunately injuries are likely to cloud the assessment of who is the most likely to be take the position for 2 double gameweeks.

Both Wickham and Adebayor were no shows.  So nothing is clear and now difficult to pick either

12. Kane and Mahrez

The 2 biggest risks to leave behind with the GW33 wildcard. How they perform may well influenec our position on them

Kane scored and got 2 bonus points and posted excellent shooting and creating chances stats.  Mahrez was quiet and looked jaded from travelling.  Kane looked the more dangerous to leave out.

What does this mean for me?

Gabriel will definitely be in my team.

Coutinho looks a good option if Firmino is still injured.

Barkley is too deep to be considered.  Lennon may now fill that Everton mid spot.

Lingard looks a good option.  The Rojo situation is a nightmare and I’m not sure at this time how to deal with it

My decision to transfer out Mahrez but not Kane looks ok after this weekend.

Hope that helps and I hope to be back with the first batch of observations on Saturday
