fantasy premier league differentials and punts. 10 options

It’s always worth having 1 or 2 players with low ownership in your team to try and get points where other FPL managers aren’t.  Particularly true if you’re trying to cover the main high ownership players to avoid getting left behind by the bandwagons.  Here are 10 players with ownership under 10% for you to consider for your team.  Remember they are low ownership for a reason and carry risk and something which has made people ignore them.  I’ll put them in ownership %)

David Silva (£9.0m 8.1% ownership)

I can already hear the groans.  Doesn’t score enough, always injured, plays too wide and little set piece representation.  There is some truth in this.  He’s never got to 3000 minutes in a season and never scored more 7 goals.  What he does do is consistently bring in assists and bonus points and you can guarantee 145-150 points per season.  If Pellegrini goes with Silva as a support striker then he really is a threat given the damage he did later in the year in that position.  However, given what we’ve seen in preseason that looks unlikely at this stage.  In minutes per FPL point only YYT, Ramsey, Gerrard and Walcott had better records last season.  In consistency % of games returning a goal or assist only YYT, Gerrard and Walcott had a better consistency %.  Fixtures are not an advantage.

Sigurdsson ( £6.0m 7.6% ownership)

Rescued from the obscurity of the hoardes of Spurs midfielders Siggy is the real deal as an attacking midfielder.  He should be the attacking midfield central focus of the Swansea side.

His Spurs Stats were nothing special.  Last season he got 5 goals and no assists at a FPL point every 17.7 minutes.  However even thats still comparable to Lallana last season.  The season before 3 goals and 5 assists at a FPL point every 16.0 minutes which is similar to Mirallas last year.  However his first season with Swansea he was a revelation with 7 goals and 5 assists at a FPL point every 14.7 minutes.  Last season only YYT, Ramsey, Gerrard, Hazard, Silva and Walcott would have beaten that all at considerably greater cost.  He’s also been in good form in preseason with 2 goals and 2 assists.  Fixtures could be better but good ones mised in with tricky ones.

Jovetic (£8.0m  6.6% ownership)

Ideally you would want a greater difference between him and Dzeko who’s £8.5m and far more experienced in the premier league.  Also Dzeko would play more naturally with Aguero when fit as Dzeko stays centrally and forward letting Aguero drift about and drop off.  In that way Aguero and Jovetic are similar.  What you can’t deny is Jovetic’s preseason form of 5 goals where he has been absolutely fantastic.  He is also class if you’ve watched him internationally.  Pellegrini looks like he will play 2 strikers and with Aguero not match fit plus Negredo injured Joevtic seems certain to start.  It’s just his longevity in the side and his price compared to Dzeko thats the issue.

Coutinho ( £8.0m 4.3% ownership)

If there were points for shots then Coutinho would be FPL gold.  Unfortunately they’re not and half the time he looks like he couldn’t hit a barn door.  Last season was anything but a success with 5 goals and 7 assists at a point every 20 minutes which is very poor.  A bright preseason has helped and remember it was only the season before when he got 3 goals and 7 assists in half a season at a FPL point every 13.2 minutes which would only have put him behind Ramsey and YYT last season.  So the potential is there and with Lallana out he should start in an attacking midfield position.  Unfortunately he doesn’t compare well to the price of Sterling at £8.5m who has been in even better form in preseason than Coutinho.  Fixtures aren’t easy but Liverpool score no matter what the opposition.

Graziano Pelle (£7.5m 4.0% ownership)

Why would you pick anyone in a side stripped of all their best players you may ask?  Well Pelle has an excellent record from the Dutch league with 23 goals and 6 assists in 28 games last season.  Now the Dutch league hasn’t always translated well to the premier league.  Last season Bony struggled to immediately adjust but it has had successes, notably Suarez and Van Nistleroy as well as failures such as Altidore and famously Alfonso Alves.  Also the record last season of new strikers to the league wasn’t that great as Spurs fans with Soldado will testify.  What he does have though is good fixtures and thats what you’re banking on.

Lamela (£8.0m 2.6% ownership)

There’s no doubting his quality.  This is a guy who’s scored 19 goals and 12 assists in 62 games for Roma and has made it into the Argentinian team albeit only playing 5 times.  Last season was a disaster with injuries and 1 goal from 9 games.  He’s started the preseason strongly though with 3 goals and looks in great form.  Again though the price could be better.  He’s the same price was Eriksen who will have set piece duties and ended the season in sensational form.

Adebayor (£8.5m 2.1% ownership)

Took a while to get into the side as wasn’t the favourite of AVB thats for sure.  In the end his FPL point every 15 minutes was better than Remy, Lukaku, Lambert and Bony.  He also has pens when Soldado not on the pitch.

Rodwell (£5.0m 1.2% ownership)

There’s not much stats I can give you to back up my belief that Rodwell can be a box to box scoring midfielder.  There’s only 1 season that he’s really put in any good per minute stats.  He’s also pretty injury prone.  What he does have though is good fixtures and he should go straight into the side as Sunderland have little support to the striker in attacking midfielders.  Especially in Poyets 4-1-4-1 formation.

Hoilett (£5.0m 0.9 %)

QPR have some good fixtures and this is about Hoilett playing behind the strikers in pre-season.  Has never really put up good numbers so would be a big step up.

Hull (H)

Salah (£6.5m 0.8%)

Great fixtures and likely to start given that Oscar, Willian, Ramires and Schurrle have alot to do before being ready to start after the World Cup.  2 goals and 1 assist at a rate of 16.2 minutes per FPL point is impressive.  Only an ok preseason but did have a rest instead of going to the World Cup. Doesn’t have longevity in the side though once everyone is match fit.

Montero (£6.0m 0.3%)

Same price as Siggy which makes the decision difficult but has unquestionable talent.  Comes from the Mexican league where last season he got a respectable 6 goals and 5 assists from 22 games.  Also 8 goals in 43 matches for Ecuador.  Has started preseason well.  Some question over fitness for GW1 and an adaption to the premier league are the concerns
