fantasy premier league double gameweeks – Arsenal v Sunderland postponed to GW37

Fantasy Premier League

Well the premier league is nothing if not unpredicable with Arsenal v Sunderland postponed to GW37 creating the 3rd 2 team double gameweeks.  The worst outcome for those of us holding wildcards.  Below is a short article on the implications going forward

fantasy premier league double gameweeks – Arsenal v Sunderland postponed to GW37

Background

Aston Villa and QPR have a DGW31 courtesy of the FA Cup semi final, Chelsea and Leicester courtesy of the Capital One Cup final in DGW34 and now Arsenal and Sunderland because of the FA Cup semi final in GW37.  I’m sure there’s some logic why 2 teams play postponed games 6 gameweeks away due to the same fixture but apart from some spurious relationship to the Champions League with Arsenal it escapes me.  It’s not great for those holding wildcards who were hoping to load up on DGW34 while those without would be limited to effectively Chelsea players and those on the bench in the blank week of GW33.  Those with wildcards will be cheering on Liverpool in the Blackburn replay although this game could also go to DGW34 or DGW37.  That would also add Hull to the double gameweek.

Double gameweek implications

It certainly makes it easier to get to and from now through DGW31 to the blanks of GW33, DGW34 and DGW37.

DGW34

With most people having 2 Cheslea players the focus will be on getting 3 for the DGW34.  With Chelsea not having a blank in GW33  that couldn’t be easier.  A defender, Hazard and Costa once hes got through GW32 without getting to 10 yellow cards from his current 8 is the priority.  The lack of alternatives may make people look at Leicester more favourably with Mahrez and Kramaric being the favourites plus a good schedule

DGW37

There’s a multitude of options within Arsenal from Giroud to Sanchez, Ozil, Cazorla and then the defence. Sunderland is a bit more limited.  The defence has been the most profitable especially Pantmilion in goal. Further up from that it’s difficult apart from Defoe.

Here’s Arsenals fixtures prior to DGW37 and after

Burnley (A)
– Gameweek 33 –
Chelsea (H)
Hull (A)
Swansea (H)
DGW37 Man Utd (A)
DGW37 Sunderland (H)
West Brom (H)

So the Man Utd fixture could be better but 3 home games out of 4 to finish with WBA surely safe and relaxed by then couldn’t be better.  3 Arsenal players looks essential.

Here’s Sunderlands

Crystal Palace (H)
– Gameweek 33 –
34 Stoke (A)
Southampton (H)
Everton (A)
DGW37 Leicester (H)
DGW37 Arsenal (A)
Chelsea (A)

So not great especially for the defence where there are 3 away games out of 4 to finish including 2 against 2 of the better attacking teams in the league.

Then it’s just a case of seeing where Liverpool end up assuming they can beat Blackburn.  That would bring into play a defender, Sterling and Coutinho. The game is played on Wednesday April 8 between GW31 and GW32 and if they win could be in either GW34 or GW37.

Current thoughts

I’ve yet to decide what I’m going to do and in some ways I don’t need to at this stage but I’m preparing on the assumption that I wont be using my wildcard in DGW34 in case Liverpool end up in DGW37.

Thats the short version for the moment.  I’ll give more detail when I make my transfer either tonight or tomorrow
