fantasy premier league double gameweeks and blanks – an update

Fantasy Premier League

I’m writing this fantasy premier league double gameweeks and blanks update on Sunday morning.  The only 5th round FA Cup games to go are Rochdale v Spurs and Wigan v Man City and this was written before those games.  The quarter final draw subject to the remaining games being concluded is also known.

fantasy premier league double gameweeks and blanks – an update

The basics

Firstly I’ll say I’m trying to write each article as a stand alone article so you don’t need to know any background if you’re just trying to understand what could happen for the first time.  If you’re well up on everything you may have to skip some stuff.  Here’s the link with background from our original fantasy premier league double gameweeks article

In short if things follow previous years and the UEFA rules then there will potentially be a:

Blank GW31 for the FA Cup quarters

A DGW34 where most of the postponed games will go to resulting from the quarters clashing with the GW31

Blank GW35 for the FA Cup semi finalists.

A DGW37 for the postponed GW35 clashes with the semis

Results assumptions

It’s alot easier and clearer to formulate a strategy if you make some results assumptions and then layout how the fixtures would look.

Firstly lets make some assumptions on the remaining 5th round games

Swansea v Sheffield Wednesday replay – Swansea win (Sorry again Alex)

Rochdale v Spurs – Spurs win

Wigan v Man City – Man City win without a replay (important as that would lead to a blank Man City and Arsenal GW28)

The quarter final draw has been made.  Here are the results assumptions I’ve made taking into account the above as well.

Leicester v Chelsea – Chelsea win

Man Utd v Brighton – Man Utd win

Swansea v Spurs – Spurs win

Man City v Southampton – Man City win

So the semi finalists will be Chelsea, Man Utd, Spurs and Man City

How the fixtures would look with those results

Italics are the games that were postponed into new gameweeks

Green fixtures are guaranteed games in the blank weeks

The teams in italics will have doubles in the gameweeks they are placed in. The teams in GW35 will not have a double in GW37.

However there are 2 other groups of teams to note.

 Doubles in GW34 and GW37

Man Utd, Spurs, Chelsea, Man City, Swansea and Brighton

Doubles in GW34 and fixture in GW35

Arsenal, West Ham, Newcastle, Leicester, Southampton and Burnley,

So what does this mean?

So on the big assumption that the results go to the plan above then wildcarding in 32/33 and free hitting in GW35 gives you a chance to pick a team on the wildcard that has players with doubles gameweeks in 34 and 37.  That’s a pretty tasty set of teams plus a couple of teams with cheap players.  This to me is the big advantage in free hitting in GW35 rather than 31.  Hopefully the 4 fixtures plus the 4 transfers to go gives you time to get some sort of team out for 31.

If you don’t have your free hit then wildcarding in 32/33 will have to be a balance the double 34/37 teams with the GW35 teams.  At least there are a number of teams with doubles in 34 and fixtures in 35.

How do the FFGeek teams look?

Free hit lost team

The squiggly lines denotes a player with a fixture in GW31.

FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE DOUBLE GAMEWEEKS

So 5 players with 5 transfers to go as I have just carried over a free transfer.  Although I will probably replace Gomez with Van Djik so 4 transfers.  Kenny depends on Colemans fitness.

I’ll be looking at Van Dijk, Firmino, Walcott, Wilson and Ibe as possibilities.  Plus a GK. However a lot more thinking to do yet.

My aim is to carry over 2 transfers into GW31 and carefully think about the order to maximise the best fixtures for players incoming and outgoing.  I would be surprised if I took any hits for GW31 even though in theory you get 2 points back for an appearance to mitigate the 4 points lost.

I think I will wildcard in 32/33 with a balance between 34 and 35 players, bench boost 34 and triple captain 37.  You can’t use 2 chips in 1 gameweek.

 Free Hit intact team

Again the squiggly lines denotes a player with a GW31 fixture

So 6 players with 5 transfers to go as I have just carried over a free transfer.  Although I will definitely replace Moreno with Van Djik so 4 transfers effectively.  Again, Kenny depends on Colemans fitness.

I’ll be looking at Van Dijk, Firmino, Walcott, and Niasse as possibilities.  Plus a GK.

My aim is to carry over 2 transfers into GW31 and carefully think about the order to maximise the best fixtures for players incoming and outgoing.  As I said above, I would be surprised if I took any hits for GW31 even though in theory you get 2 points back for an appearance to mitigate the 4 points lost.

I think I will wildcard in 32/33 maximising the players with doubles in 34/37, bench boost 34, free hit 35 and triple captain 37.  You can’t use 2 chips in 1 gameweek.

GW31 teams fixtures GW28-GW30

Liverpool

West Ham (H)
Newcastle (H)
Man Utd (A)

Good fixtures apart from GW30.  Bringing in this gameweek 28 seems the optimum entry point.

Watford

Everton (H)
West Brom (H)
Arsenal (A)

Ok fixtures apart from GW30 but away to Liverpool in GW31 isn’t helpful.

Bournemouth

Newcastle (H)
Leicester (A)
Spurs (H)

Ok GW28 the other 2 aren’t easy.

WBA

Huddersfield (H)
Watford (A)
Leicester (H)

Good fixtures for a cheap defender.  This week is the time to do it

Stoke

Leicester (A)
Southampton (A)
Man City (H)

Not good fixtures,  GW31 entry point only.

Everton

Watford (A)
Burnley (A)
Brighton (H)

Good fixtures although Burnley away for attacking players could be tricky.

Huddersfield

West Brom (A)
Spurs (A)
Swansea (H)

Ok fixtures apart from Spurs.  GW30 is the best entry point.

C Palace

Spurs (H)
Man Utd (H)
Chelsea (A)

Worst possible fixtures, only for a GW31 entry point.
