Fantasy premier league – the early GW13 bandwagons and sinking ships

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s my view on the fantasy premier league bandwagons and sinking ships as we head towards gameweek 13.  If your’e not familiar these are the 5  most transferred in and the 5 most transferred out players so far in the gameweek.   Remember there’s Champion league and Europa league games this week so transferring in early is risky from the injury perspective.  It’s a value vs injury risk trade off.  Personally I wouldn’t take the injury risk.

Bandwagons

Mertesacker

There are few times when a defender is the most transferred in fantasy premier league player of the gameweek.  A clean sheet, bonus and an assist for the pen.  Arsenal have a couple of good fixtures next.   Away to Cardiff and home to Hull where at least 1 clean sheet should result.  3 clean sheets in the last 4 show that the good underlying defensive stats are finally coming home to roost.

Aguero

Hard to imagine there’s anyone out there who hasn’t got him.  Should be rested for the champions league this week meaning he will play the Swansea home game.  10 goals and 8 assists in 11 games.  Great underlying stats.  Incredible.  A must have.

Hazard

2 assists away at West Ham was a good start in getting rid of the away day hoodoo.  4 goals and 5 assists in 12 games.  Only on the bench once as well. Up to the heady heights of 42% consistency.  A good buy at the moment.

Suarez

Again another player that its hard to imagine anyone hasn’t bought yet.  Returned in 6 of the 7 games he’s played this season.  9 goals and 4 assists in total.  Great underlying shooting and creating chances stats.  A must have in fantasy premier league at the moment.

Lukaku

After 2 quiet games back to his rampaging best against Liverpool in the 2nd half.    7 goals and 1 assist in the 8 games for Everton.  Good if not fantastic underlying stats. It’s hard to see at the moment the forward line not being Rooney, Aguero and Suarez. However Lukaku is a good cheaper alternative.

The sinking ships

Ozil

Only 1 assist in his last 4 games.  2 goals and 5 assists in the 9 games played.  I don’t think i would be selling before Cardiff away and Hull at home that’s for sure.  I’m still not convinced long term that an assist based player will return consistently.  However his stats aren’t too bad and I wouldn’t look to sell until after the Hull game at least.

Lovren

Missed the game against Arsenal through illness but apparently will be back training today.  There are a few tricky games that’s for sure starting with Chelsea away.  However Saints certainly didn’t disgrace themselves defensively against Arsenal and long term I think they are definitely a hold.

RVP

The last minute injury stories are enough to drive any fantasy premier league manager around the bend.  With Rooney in great form he offers Man Utd coverage at a cheaper price. I’m his biggest fan but its hard to justify holding him at the moment.  He’s not necessary from the captain point of view any longer and there’s a wealth of striking alternatives so for me he is a sell

Barkley

Not returned in the last 6 and on the subs bench in 2 of those.  Sales are understandable.  I certainly have debated it myself.  There are a number of other alternatives at a cheaper price.   This does depend on when you bough him though.  I personally can only sell him for £4.9m.  At that price there’s really not many better alternatives.  Looking at the fundamentals thogh, he is an advanced midfielder in a central position for a top 4ish challenging team.  He creates chances for one of the best forwards in the league.  For £4.9m if I believe he’s going to play then that’s worth holding in my mind.  At his buy price of £5.4m its a bit more of an expensive hold.  At the moment my intention is to hold.

Townsend

£6.0m is too much for a guy who’s got 1 goal and 1 assist in 10 games in my view.  However is your’re selling him on the basis of losing his place then you want to take a look at Lamela’s awful performance yesterday.  I think he will be back in the team.  It’s hard to say hold when I wouldn’t buy him in the first place but if you have belief I wouldn’t sell now.
