fantasy premier league – Fantasy Football Geek FPL team review 14/15 (updated)

Fantasy Premier League

I went through the FFGEEK teams in the different formats and where they finished in a previous article but here’s a brief article on my fantasy premier league season in review.  Plus I introduce some stats on my team from a handy app called gargatron.  I will do a longer view on strategy after this year soon.  This is just a brief look at the season gone. UPDATED for another FPL app anewpla which gives even more stats on your team on the advice of reader Tiago thanks very much

fantasy premier league – Fantasy Football Geek FPL team review 14/15

Anyone who comes to the site will know I play a fairly ownership based conservative approach to the game so I thought I would look back over my season which finished 2,720 overall.

Firstly here’s my points record by gameweek

In general I started slow, got a big score to get around 50k and then slowly edged  upwards after spending along time around the 20k mark.  Some lucky captain picks when they were 50/50 picks then improved my finish.

A few things standout:

1.  I only had 6 gameweek scores where I ranked better than the top 100k.  I don’t think you need to get multiple big scores to improve rank

2.  However early it helps to get a big score to improve rank so you can get in a position to hold it and then improve it slowly.  GW6 and GW11 show that.

3.  The power of owning the high ownership players of the leading managers is shown in 2 examples

  • By being careful with ownership I kept a rank between 14k-25k during GWs 14-30 without having a gameweek rank score better than 199k
  • A disastrous gameweek rank of 2.8m in GW29 only of saw an overall rank drop of 2071.  If you own a similar team to everyone else when you fail so does everyone else minimising the rank damage.  50/50 captain picks and a few differentials though will improve your rank slowly while ownership monitioring minimises drops

Gargatron

There’s a handy little app called Gargatron which gives you a few bits of basic analysis on your teams performance:

Here’s what it told me about my team this season:

Interestingly I compared it to the Gargatron of a couple of the top 10 managers I followed and the stats weren’t that different although they had Aguero for longer periods in the team than me.

I also compared it to another of the top 10 managers I follow who is a bit more risk seeking and finished about 30k.  The 3 key differences between myself and the other 2 managers above and him  is that he used more players over the season, captained Aguero less and spent 60 points on hits.

ANEWPLA (updated)

Here’s another app recommended by Tiago in the comments below ( thanks Tiago ).  It shows more of a break down.  Interestingly it shows that Sanchez and Silva were a bit disappointing for me and YYT (forgot I ever had him?) Austin and Aguero were my top PPG players.  Also showed what a success Morgan and Vardy were for me
