fantasy premier league – FFGeek picks for GW29

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s my picks for fantasy premier league GW29.  Remember its just a team for this gameweek.  No other fixtures are taken into account.    The point of the GW29 picks post is just to help you with any last minute transfer decisions.  If you think that someone has a good chance of points in GW29 over someone else than maybe that will swing the argument.  The teams not meant to be affordable either by the way.  Its the best for GW29 despite cost.    There’s more stats and details on players in my “ones to watch” articles

As it’s a limited gameweek I haven’y gone for the full compliment of players.  It’s also difficult to avoid conflicts.  ie a defender and an attacker from the same game.

Here’s the team:

De Gea

Even with the injuiy to Evans there’s still some uncertainty over the defensive line up.  De Gea offers certainty at less than the price for Evra who’s the only other nailed on defender.

Man Utd aren’t the greatest defensive team away from home although they have recorded 2 clean sheets in the last 2 games.  WBA really aren’t an attacking force on their home ground.  They’ve only scored 16 goals on their own ground in 14 games.  Only Sunderland Palace Norwich and Cardiff have scored less.  They’ve blanked on 3 occaisions and only 4 times in 14 games have they scored more than 1.  Anelka suspended and Long sold leaves new Thiery and Anichebe to lead the line.

A reasonable chance to get a clean sheet for United.

Terry

Looks the most dangerous of the attacking players to me at set pieces although Ivanovic has the better underlying stats.  With 3 clean sheets in their last 3 home games and only 9 goals conceded at home in 14 games Chelsea are the best defensive team in the league for me.

Spurs have a pretty good attacking record away from home although Sherwood has moved from idealist to prgamitist in away games which will probably see a lone Adebayor up front and definitely won’t have the teams only creative player in Eriksen who’s injured.

Chelsea always have a clean sheet chance and Terry always looks dangerous at set pieces

Fonte

2 clean sheets in their last 3 away games and with Lovren back maybe we’re starting to see some semblence of the defence that racked up clean sheets at the beginning of the season.  Fonte with 3 goals is probably marginally the better attacking player over Lovren.

Only Cardiff and Norwich have scored less goals at home this season than Palace.  In the last 6 home games theyve scored 6 goals 3 against WBA.

A good prospect of a clean sheet for Southampton here.

Bassong

In 14 games away Stoke have blanked 8 times and only scored more than 1 goal 3 times.  Only Everton Man City Arsenal and Chelsea have conceded less goals at home and they’ve got 4 consecutive clean sheets.

See the converging patterns.  A great clean sheet prospect.  Bassong is also long overdue some attacking returns

Caulker

At time Fulham turn up to your place you have to have a good chance of a clean sheet.  With their £12m man likely to be unfit to play it leaves Bent or Rodellega to lead the line.  Neither who’ve covered themselves in glory this season.  In 14 games Fulham have blanked 8 times on the road.

Caulker has scored twice this season and consistently looks dangerous at set pieces.

Hazard

Confirmed as fit to play after half an hour in Brussells.   Another outstanding performance  at Fulham on the weekend.  He’s only returned twice in his last 6 games but that was a 21 point haul and a 10 point haul. Capable of big hauls at any point and capable of adding nothing.  Has mostly been excellent recently though even when not returning.  There’s nothing wrong with the Spurs away defence.  Only Chelsea have conceded less away from home and the opposition have only scored more than 1 goal once.  This is about an outstanding individual player whio can turn it on at any time

Ince

Only 3rd game in fantasy premier league which started with a bang with a goal and an assist home to WBA.   Has switched positions to the flank and was taken off against Swansea so not without risk but has shown talent in the 3 games.  25 goals and 20 assists in 67 games in the Championship for Blackpool is a fantastic record and shows the potential.

Ive backed the Southampton defence above which contradicts this but difficult to avoid 1 conflict with only 5 games.

Lallana

Just back from an excellent half hour for England providing the spark and assist for the winner.  No returns in his last 2 but don’t let that  put you off.  Played well in both games and was unlucky not to return.  Returned in the 4 games previous to that.

Palace have shown improved home defensive form under Pulis but are still vulnerable to the best attacking sides and at the moment Saints are one of those

Snodgrass

Should be fit to provide his set pieces to add to his recent run of 2 goals and an assist in his last 6 games against one of the worst away defences in the league.  Only Fulham and Norwich have conceded more goals away than their 28 conceded in 14 games.

Mata

Has made a solid if not spectacular start for United with 3 assists in his first 5 games and 3 returning games.  Has drifted in centrally to create chances.  Only Silva has created more chances per minute than Mata this season and that includes his time at Chelsea.  Sooner or later RVP and Rooney will benefit. Unlike last year has not had the shooting chances which has diminished returns.  Has shown a good involvement in set pieces though which is also a good sign.

The West Brom defence has been reasonable solid but United have been excellent away from home.

Rooney

If Rooney lines up centrally behind RVP and isn’t forced back into the midfield then the returns can come, as they did against Palace.  Has struggled with only 1 goal in his last 5 games since Mata joined.  Despite the stats on passes between them RVP and Rooney have played together and Rooney has thrived with 2 goals and 2 assists in the games against Stoke and Fulham earlier in the season.  United have been far better away from home and RVP Rooney and Mata have the quality to score.  The recent history does make this a purchase with risk though

RVP

Despite the body language and the words in the press you cant ignore 4 goals in his last 5 games coupled with penalty duties.  Unfortunately his restrictive central positioning and lack of set piece involvement means he will never get the assists to compliment his goals but difficult to argue with the stats.

K Jones

When the worst away defence comes to town there has to be representation amongst the FFGeek picks.  With OGS changing his team line up to an extent that Ranieri would be embarrased, selecting someone guaranteed to play isn’t easy.  Jones was benched last week but that was away to Spurs.  If ever OGS has to back his team to score with 2 strikers this week is it.  Jones has the natural talent despite only scoring 1 in his last 5.  If ever he’s going to do it though its in this game.
