Fantasy premier league – FFGeek picks for GW17

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s my picks for fantasy premier league GW17.  Remember its just a team for this gameweek.  No other fixtures are taken into account.  If you want a picks for a more longer term basis then go to my imaginary wildcard team that was posted yesterday.  The point of the GW17 picks post is just to help you with any last minute transfer decisions.  If you think that someone has a good chance of points in GW17 over someone else than maybe that will swing the argument. The comments are fairly brief as alot of the players are covered by my “ones to watch” articles so excuse that

Speroni

2 clean sheets and a battling defensive performance over Chelsea have been the result of Palace being “Pulised”.  I’m not saying that Newcastle are a bad attacking side although they have only scored 2 goals in their last 3 games.  Remy has also gone 3 games without returning and 4 without a goal.  Great clean sheet chance

Krul

Playing Palace before Pulis were always a clean sheet possibility but that’s even more so with Pulis emphasis on clean sheets.  I don’t rate the Newcastle defence away at all despite the clean sheets at Utd and Spurs and rated them the 5th worst away defence..  This is about the opposition who use forwards as advanced tacklers and long ball recipients
Stoke City

Wilson
£4.3
Having Shawcross and Huth out is not great for Stoke but equally they welcome and out of sorts attacking Villa.  2 clean sheets at home before the Chelsea game.  Villa have drawn 3 blanks in their last 4.  They also are better on the counter attack but Stoke wont be drawn on this in my mind.  Lastly Villas main attacking weapon Benteke has now not scored in 10 appearances.
Man City

Kompany
£6.2
The City away defence is much maligned with 13 goals conceded in 8 games and only 1 clean sheet.  However their enough in their underlying stats to me to suggest an upturn is coming.  Fulham at home is a good place to start even with the re-emergence of Berba. Fulham have only scored more than 1 goal once in their 8 home games.
Man Utd

Evra
£6.3
Evans is the value option at £5.0m and should start against a goal shy West Ham.  Evra is the attacking option with a goal and 2 assists.  United have kept 3 clean sheets at home which is ok.  They have only conceded 7 goals which is a respectable.  Incredibly West Ham have had 5 blanks at home and striker Maiga has yet to return in 11 appearances.
West Brom

McAuley
£5.5
11 goals and 2 clean sheets at home isn’t exactly a recommendation.  McAuley is a good attacking hedge against a clean sheet though with 2 goals and an assist.  Hull have blanked 4 times away from home in 8 and only scored more than once against Newcastle when HBA  produced a tracking back performance that made Pardew realise that he just couldn’t be carried.  Striker Sagbo hasn’t returned in 5 games.
Liverpool

Flanagan
£4.5
Surely their a clean sheet here.  Surely the law of averages must catch up with them after conceding at home against West Ham Norwich and Palace of all people.  They’ve never conceded more than one so surely this is the time for their next clean sheet.  At least if they don’t with Flanagan you haven’t spent too much.  Cardiff haven’t scored in their last 4 away games.
Arsenal

Walcott
£9.1
Performs consistently year after year and has the best shots in the box stats of any midfielder.  2 goals against City shows what he can do.  Deadly on the counter.
Man Utd

Januzaj
£4.7
Rotation is the big issue for the talented young multinational.    However after being rested against Stoke midweek has good chance of playing at home to West Ham.  The West Ham away defence has performed well against most teams although Saurez gave them a good going over in the 4-1 win.  However with Reid and maybe even Tomkins injured this could be a good time for United to re-establish home form.  2 goals and 3 assists in 10 games to date.
Everton

Mirallas
£7.3
Swansea have the 3rd worst home defence according to my rating. Mirallas is very hit and miss but has great underlying stats and an advanced position which give hope.  He broke a run of 3 without scoring to come off the bench to score against Fulham.  A leap of faith undoubtedly but one with good future fixtures and can score in doubles when he does.
Liverpool

Sterling
£5.0
A goal and an assist in the 4 games since he’s been back shows his cheapie potential.  Should play against a Cardiff team which has conceded 2 goals or more in half their away games.  Chelsea also scored 4.  I’ve rated them the 8th worst away defence.
Man City

Silva
£9.1
Top rated midfielder in my “ones to watch articles”   Will miss the movement of Aguero which may affect his creating chances and assist ability.  The bonus could be an advanced position behind Negredo though.  I’ve rated the Fulham home defence as only being better than the Sunderland home defence.  If you strip out the cavalry charge tactics of Di Canio it will probably be the worst.
Everton

Lukaku
£8.5
8 goals and 4 assists and returned in 9/12 games for Everton. Returned in all of the last 5 even if he has pushed the envelope on what parts of the body can generate an assist.  As I said for Mirallas Swansea have the 3rd worst home defence according to my rating.
Man City

Negredo
£9.4
7 goals and 3 assists in 15 appearances.  Should be the main man in Aguero’s absence although may have to continue dropping into midfield if Dzeko starts in 4-4-2.  As I said for Silva  I’ve rated the Fulham home defence as only being better than the Sunderland home defence.  If you strip out the cavalry charge tactics of Di Canio it will probably be the worst.
Liverpool

Suárez
£12.4

Hard to believe what he’s doing. 16 goals and 10 assists in 11 games.  Unbelievable. As I said for Sterling   playing  against a Cardiff team which has conceded 2 goals or more in half their away games.  Chelsea also scored 4.  I’ve rated them the 8th worst away defence.  Anything is possible.
