We take a quick look at the Cap 1 Cup final and it’s effect on fixtures in the future including fixture blanks and possible double gameweeks

Last night you would have seen that Tottenham beat Sheffield United over 2 legs and are through to the Capital One Cup final on Sunday March 1. They face Chelsea who beat Liverpool on Tuesday night. Thats right in the middle of GW27 in FPL terminology.
That effects Leicester vs Chelsea and QPR v Spurs. The fixture can’t be moved to GW27 midweek as GW28 starts on Tuesday 3rd March. However GW28 runs until the 14th March. It’s extra long as the 6th round of the FA Cup being played is played on the weekend of the on the 7th/8th March. QPR and Spurs are both out of the FA Cup so it could be played on that weekend within GW28 at the same time as the 6th round. However Leicester are still in the competition so they would need to be eliminated by Villa who they play away in the 5th round for them and Chelsea to be free. Crucially there are Champions league fixtures on the 10/11 March involving Chelsea which rules out a midweek game there for anyone as domestic and European football can’t clash even if no English teams are playing. I have to confess I’m not sure if both games have to be postponed to the same time. I can’t imagine they do but if anyone knows any better? If they dont Spurs and Leicester will have blanks in GW27 and a double GW28 gameweek. Chelsea will have a blank in GW27 and only a DGW28 if Leicester are eliminated by Villa in the 5th round of the FA Cup on the 15th of Feb. Leicester will also have a DGW28 for what it’s worth in that instance. If Leicester aren’t eliminated and therefore it can’t be played in GW28 I haven’t theorised when it would be played.
So:
In DGW28 Spurs would play QPR A and Swansea H
Chelsea would play Leicester A and West Ham A
QPR would play Spurs H and Arsenal H
Leicester would play Chelsea H and Man City A
Just to be clear the 2 games in GW27 will be postponed even if it doesn’t show as yet on the FPL site. I am theorising on when the games would be postponed to and nothing is official but this seems a logical progression. As I said if anyone can add anything please do in the comments column.
If you’re like me you’ll have 3 Chelsea players in Terry, Hazard and Costa plus Spurs players of Kane and Chadli. Thankfully no QPR or Leicester players. There are obviously 3 sub bench positions for those you want to keep and 4 rounds in which to decide what to do. Diego Costa has done his best to simplify the position with his stamp on Emre Can of which he’s been charged and the position will be clear by GW23. That will likely mean a 3 match ban in 23-25 and then a blank in GW27. Hard to see any reasoning behind keeping him if he is found guilty. There’s no right of appeal either btw.

Everton (H)
Burnley (H)
Burnley home is especially attractive although Chelsea play in the UCL the week before. Still you wouldn’t want nil representation for that game
Spurs fixtures up to and including GW26 are
West Brom (A)
Arsenal (H)
Liverpool (A)
West Ham (H)
With Arsenal and Liverpool in there it’s an easier story to sell.
