Fantasy Premier League, Player Rankings

With the Kane injury I thought I would get the forward rankings article out before budget midfielders.  Here’s our fantasy premier league forward player rankings GW10 article. There’s a range of stats plus commentary on each player and their next 6 fixtures. This will help you choose the best transfer for your team

FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE FORWARD PLAYER RANKINGS GW10

First it’s important to remember that each player is ranked as a transfer target for this week. So while we generally look at fixtures form and underlying stats a player who’s away to Man City is going to be ranked lower than someone home to Huddersfield for example. If possible a transfer should have a good fixture first up.

Firstly there’s a table of stats. Then there’s a bit of brief commentary on each player and their next 6 fixtures.

This is the 3rd player rankings article. I’ve also written a defenders and GKs player rankings article and an article for premium midfielders

STATS DEFINITIONS

Fixt Ease: The ease of the mentioned fixture range from an attacking perspective. See our GW10 fixture ease article

Mins per FPL Pt. The amount of minutes a player takes to earn an FPL point. The shorter and obviously lower the number is the better

ATGS – the bookies anytime goalscoring odds for GW10. I’ve used William Hill

xG and xA per 90 – the expected goals and assists per 90 minutes played from the better than excellent site understat.com. See our underlying stats summary for expected goal information on teams and players. See also Joseph Crilleys GW9 review with underlying stats part 1 and part 2

The schedule

FIRST A WORD ON MAN CITY

As I said  in the Midfielders article, gametime is obviously a crucial part of assessing a players ranking. However the last 2 fixtures have shown that it is impossible to use rational analysis to assess what Pep is doing. So I’m ranking Man City players purely on stats. I’ll give information in the narrative on factors that you would think will affect gametime but ultimately it’s a decision you as an FPL manager will need to make an assessment on. I know that’s ideal but no one can predict Pep.

Aguero

The only problem with Aguero is the fact that he played 120 minutes midweek in the EFL Cup.  Now Jesus also played 82 minutes as well but it’s not a great backdrop to GW10 for Aguero.  His returns and underlying stats are fantastic.  It’s just whether he plays this week given that midweek gametime and the fact that it’s Champions League next week

West Brom (A)
Arsenal (H)
Leicester (A)
Huddersfield (A)
Southampton (H)
West Ham (H)

Jesus

Also played midweek but less minutes so you’d think he was an assured starter although we know that can never be the case.  Started 7 games plus 1 as sub and scored 6 plus 1 assist.  Been a threat in all games except maybe the Chelsea game so underlying stats are very good. It’s just the gametime risk.

West Brom (A)
Arsenal (H)
Leicester (A)
Huddersfield (A)
Southampton (H)
West Ham (H)

Lukaku

90 minutes in all 9 games, 7 goals and 2 assists only not returning in 2 of the 9 games plus excellent underlying stats.  It’s the last 2 games that has everyone spooked and to be fair in both those he’s been poor.  A couple of tricky fixtures next as well where he could be held back if Mourinho takes a negative approach

Spurs (H)
Chelsea (A)
Newcastle (H)
Brighton (H)
Watford (A)
Arsenal (A)

Morata

Morata was very poor against Watford in GW9 but that was the exception to his form prior to that.  6 goals and 2 assists in 6 starts plus 2 as sub is a fantastic start to the league. The Watford game though was  the only game he started that you would say he’s been disappointing in.  However we do have a player who’s been a sub for 2 years principally and I wonder if the burden of that physically is catching up with him.

The issue is exacerbated by Batshuayi’s performance scoring twice as a sub in GW9.  Now Batshuayi played midweek although not well by all accounts and I can’t see that 1 performance moving Morata down the ladder .  It’s just there’s a midweek game in Rome and then next weekend a home game to Man Utd.  If he needs a rest there’s only 1 game that he will be rested in and thats GW10. That’s my only worry for Morata as his form and underlying stats are good with just the Watford game souring it.

Bournemouth (A)
Man Utd (H)
West Brom (A)
Liverpool (A)
Swansea (H)
Newcastle (H)

Lacazette

5 goals and no assists in 8 starts is hardly a disaster and his underlying stats overall are good.  Not too dissimilar to Morata’s.  He also has penalty duties which Morata won’t have.  The game against Everton was the first time that Lacazette, Ozil and Sanchez have started which could signal an upward trajectory for Lacazette especially as Sanchez has considerably upped his assist potential so far this season.

However there are 4 big negatives for Lacazette.  When starting he’s averaged 75 minutes on the pitch and has a ready made replacement in Giroud.  Secondly in the 8 starts 4 of them he hasn’t even turned up unlike Morata who pretty consistently has.  Thirdly the fixtures after Swansea.  4th his single goals in the other games apart from the WBA game where he scored 2 got no bonus points.  There were high scoring games but it’s not a great sign.

We know he can score and has pens and Sanchez and Ozil fit has to be a positive.  It’s just the 4 negatives above.

Swansea (H)
Man City (A)
Spurs (H)
Burnley (A)
Huddersfield (H)
Man Utd (H)

Okazaki

4 goals in 6 starts is some going to the new season for  cheap striker.  His underlying stats have been excellent too and very consistent.  Man Utd away was the only game he wasn’t a goal threat.

However it’s not all positives.  He averages 69 minutes when he starts and has Iheanacho as a very expensive guy he’s keeping on the bench.  Plus he has a new manager who thinks Jose Mourinho’s game plan against Liverpool is an everyday football match.  Whether he even plays 2 strikers has to be in question until we see his team selection.

Everton (H)
Stoke (A)
Man City (H)
West Ham (A)
Spurs (H)
Burnley (H)

Firmino

Good fixtures coming up are the main attraction for Firmino as he just isn’t providing a goal threat at the moment.  He’s now blanked in his last 6 games

Huddersfield (H)
West Ham (A)
Southampton (H)
Chelsea (H)
Stoke (A)
Brighton (A)

Vardy

Vardy has scored this season against Arsenal, Chelsea Liverpool and Huddersfield

He has failed to scored against Bournemouth, WBA, Swansea and Brighton.  See a pattern?   which is pretty much mirrored by the underlying stats.

However the new manager should be consistent with Leicester and Vardy’s counter attacking style

Everton (H)
Stoke (A)
Man City (H)
West Ham (A)
Spurs (H)
Burnley (H)

Gabbiadini

The pain this guy caused me last season.  3 goals in 6 starts isn’t too bad and he does have pens.  The main negative is that his underlying stats are absolutely atrocious.  This is about a couple of good fixtures and pens.

Brighton (A)
Burnley (H)
Liverpool (A)
Everton (H)
Man City (A)
Bournemouth (A)

Abraham

Tricky fixture next away to Arsenal doesn’t help the rankings especially when  I imagine Clement will look to bring the bus that he learnt to build when he worked with Mourinho.  4 goals in 8 starts and 1 sub appearance is definitely ok for the price although Bony in the wings doesn’t help his future gametime security. His underlying stats aren’t too bad for the price but he’s pretty inconsistent as a goal threat even in the games you’d be hoping for something.

Arsenal (A)
Brighton (H)
Burnley (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Chelsea (A)
Stoke (A)
