FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE FORWARDS GW3 – PLAYER RANKINGS

First it’s important to remember that each player is ranked as a transfer target for this week. So while we generally look at fixtures form and underlying stats a player who’s away to Man City is going to be ranked lower than someone home to Huddersfield for example. If possible a transfer should have a good fixture first up.

Firstly there’s a table of stats. Then there’s a bit of brief commentary on each player.

This is the 3rd player rankings article. I’ve also written articles for:

STATS DEFINITIONS

Fixt Ease: The ease of the mentioned fixture range from an attacking perspective. See our GW3 fixture ease article

Mins per FPL pt: How long it took to earn an FPL point in 16/17. The lower the better

PPG: the points per match taken from the FPL site

Underlying stats: I’ve taken underlying shot and key pass stats from whoscored.com and tried to put them into a meaningful number. The higher the better. You can see more in our underlying stats article

The schedule

fantasy premier league forwards GW3

Kane

Hit the post twice and had a goal disallowed.  Had a ton of shots so in effect done everything except score.  Great fixtures to come.  Great underlying stats and also has pens.  Has to turnaround soon.  Looks to be a big captain favourite for GW3

Burnley (H)
Everton (A)
Swansea (H)
West Ham (A)
Huddersfield (A)
Bournemouth (H)

Lukaku

You couldn’t ask for more than starting the season with 3 goals.  The underlying stats are good to and show that his start is no fluke.  Could easily have pens

Leicester (H)
Stoke (A)
Everton (H)
Southampton (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Liverpool (A)

Aguero

While the 3-2-2-2 formation puts both Jesus and Aguero on the pitch I’m not sure it helps either from an FPL perspective.  Too often 1 player is dropping back and it seems almost like taking turns.  For a man who normally dominates underlying stats they’re not fantastic and while 1 goal in the first 2 isn’t a disaster it’s definitely not a time for celebration.  Pens allocation should be interesting.  Good fixture next.  Interestingly Jesus taken off rather than Aguero when Walker was sent off may mean something if Pep wants to go to a lone striker although is Pep that predictable?

Bournemouth (A)
Liverpool (H)
Watford (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Chelsea (A)
Stoke (H)

Jesus

Jesus was the sacrifice for Walker sent off against Everton.  It seems to have caused alot of panic transfers but we still have a lot to learn about what Pep is doing this season so it’s too early to write him off just yet even with 2 blanks.  Especially after his exploits last season

Bournemouth (A)
Liverpool (H)
Watford (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Chelsea (A)
Stoke (H)

Morata

A goal and an assist in his debut 31 minutes against Burnley was followed by a blank against Spurs.  However his underlying stats are reasonably good and although the fixtures aren’t great this Chelsea team isn’t ready to surrender the title just yet.

Everton (H)
Leicester (A)
Arsenal (H)
Stoke (A)
Man City (H)
Crystal Palace (A)

Lacazette

It was always going to be hard to follow a goal with your first touch in English football and that has proved the case with no returns since.  The finest of margins saw a goal disallowed against Stoke.  His underlying stats have been ok if not that exciting.  Mixed fixtures coming up which isn’t helpful.  How Sanchez changes things is also a bit of a shadow.  I would be surprised if he doesn’t get pens after his record with Lyon

Liverpool (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Chelsea (A)
West Brom (H)
Brighton (H)
Watford (A)

Chicharito (Hernandez)

Right place right time certainly proved valuable against Southampton even with only 10 men.  Already showing him self as one of the kings of the premier league 6 yard box.  Good fixtures coming up.  He’s the most transferred in player this week and features in our bandwagons and sinking ships article

Newcastle (A)
Huddersfield (H)
West Brom (A)
Spurs (H)
Swansea (H)
Burnley (A)

Firmino

Blanked against Palace after a penalty goal and assist against Watford.  Moved to the flanks with Sturridge playing against Palace which isn’t helpful but he is a reasonbale price.  Fixtures could be better.  Penalties are a bonus with the pace in the side

Arsenal (H)
Man City (A)
Burnley (H)
Leicester (A)
Newcastle (A)
Man Utd (H)

Benteke

Good fixture next even if it’s rapidly downhill after that.  Two 90 minute blanks and a pretty ordinary set of underlying stats.  It’s all about the next fixture

Swansea (H)
Burnley (A)
Southampton (H)
Man City (A)
Man Utd (A)
Chelsea (H)

Rodriguez

Another player with good underlying stats who really should have scored by now.  2 blanks and then shifted to the flanks when either Rondon or Robson Kanu (although that won’t happen for 2 fixtures now) come on isn’t helpful.  This is all about fixtures and promising underlying stats

Stoke (H)
Brighton (A)
West Ham (H)
Arsenal (A)
Watford (H)
Leicester (A)
