fantasy premier league game week 6 – A Villa v WBA – the immediate reaction

various

Heres the fantasy premier league immediate reaction to Aston Villa v WBA.

Line ups

Well it seems that even Darren Bent isnt safe in the rotation mad world of Paul Lambert.  It now looks like Vlaar is the only safe Villa player.

Lambert as expected after a 4-1 loss made a raft of changes.  Out went Lichaj and in came Bennett.  In the midfield Albrighton Delph and Agbonlahor started with Benteke up front.  Bent, Bannan and Lichaj were on the bench.

For WBA, Popov came in to defence for the injured Ridgewell.  Mulumbu and Yacob screened behind Gera, Morrison and Brunt with Long the lone striker replacing Lukaku.

The Match

Not that much to say a quiet first half with a grandstand Villa finish.  WBA had control of the game only  in  parts and had chances in the first half to go ahead.  However despite WBA going ahead Villa finished the strongest and could have won the game in the end.  Villa ended up with more possession and greater shots.

Player analysis

Bent

Has had the best shot stats by some distance for Villa but form means nothing with Lambert. Only on for 23 minutes but showed what a threat he is.  However, with the worst 6 fixtures from GW7 onwards there’s really nothing to recommend any Villa players at the moment.

Benteke

Led the shooting stats in numbers and shots inside the box but all negated by the fact that he couldn’t get anything on target.  With the fixtures mentioned above its a monitor at best

Holman

Had the 2nd best shooting stats for Villa but too many outside the box to make him an option with these fixtures

Clark

The most owned Villa player at a massive 2% showed good attacking instinct again.  The fixtures though and a shaky defence means dont go there for now.

Long

Scored a rather fortuitous goal and had a reasonable game although missed a great chance early on to score.  Had underlying stats similar to Lukaku even though played 3 times as many minutes.  WBA have the 9th best fixtures over the next 6 games and he still represents game time risk.

Lukaku

Cant seem to get a starting place despite scoring last week and looking a threat in his 23 minutes today.  Will be worth investing in if he can get starts and a decent run of fixtures

Morrison

Despite rave reveiws and regularly being the most forward midfielder is still only the 15th highest scoring midfielder, only 3 points ahead of Glenn Whelan of Stoke.  Got an assist here but didnt feature in the underlying stats for chances created or shots

The WBA defence

Despite 3 clean sheets and Foster and McAuley the 2 most owned WBA players at 11%, statistically they aren’t performing that fantastically defensively.  with only the 11th best next 6 fixtures I wouldn’t be running to invest.
