fantasy premier league gameweek 13 – planning for Aguero

Fantasy Premier League

Depending on your view the £13.0m Man City Aguero FPL forward is either an expensive injury prone luxury ruining the rest of your squad with his cost or a 50 point captain potential waiting to happen.  Personally I’m firmly in the camp of the latter and with the news that he’s back in training and aiming for GW13 I’m now looking as to how and when I get him back in the squad.  Here’s a brief look at some of the factors to be thinking about in making your own decision

fantasy premier league gameweek 13 – planning for Aguero

Will he be ready and start in GW13?

Heres what he said 4 days ago

“I don’t think I’m too far away now, “Physically, I feel good and I’ve kept as fit as I can during my lay-off.

“I still need to work hard for another week and if not this week, then maybe next, I hope to start training with the rest of the lads, and so and my target is Liverpool.”

So the target is GW13 where Man City are home to Liverpool.

So how has he come back in the past:

Last season he missed 5 games with a knee injury and came back for the away game to Everton playing 23 minutes.  He then played 3 games straight after only missing 6 minutes getting 1 assist in those games before 2 goals against Stoke in the 5th game after injury.

In the season before that he had 2 layoffs 1 of 5 games and the other of 8.  In both games he came back with 20 minutes as a sub and then a 45 minute outing after the first injury and the after the 2nd injury  a 57 minute outing.  After the first injury he came back with a goal and an assist in those 20 minutes although it was against Cardiff.  After the second injury he blanked against Liverpool and then got an assist against Sunderland before getting back into the groove with a goal and assist against WBA.

So if history tells us something it seems that he will play a short 20 minutes or off the bench against Liverpool in GW13 before cranking it up afterwards perhaps even the full 90 minutes.  It has taken him a couple of games though to get into the scoring mode.

The situation is a little complicated in that the natural reserve striker Bony is himself injured with a hamstring problem.  They do have the youngster Iheanacho but more likely they will play Sterling as a striker.  Neither of these are ideal but I would probably think that such is Aguero’s importance to Man City and his fragility that it’s hard to believe he will be treated any other way than with caution.  It’s never possible to predict what will happen in these situations but I think he will probably get a sub appearance against Liverpool before getting back to more significant minutes at home to Southampton.  There is also the complication of a crucial Champions league game away to Juventus before the Southampton game.  While Man City have pretty much qualified I’m sure they will want to win the group which is why the Southampton game has some gametime risk for Aguero too.

For the avoidance of doubt here’s the fixtures:

Liverpool (H)

Juventus (A) midweek UCL

Southampton (H)

Hull (H) midweek Cap 1

Stoke (A)

Borussia Monchengladbach (H) midweek UCL

Swansea (H)
Arsenal (A)
Sunderland (H)

How will the FFGeek team deal with it?

Obviously I need to downgrade a midfielder.  With Payet injured he’s the natural target.  At the moment I’m considering 2 options:

Pelle Payet and Richards out for Aguero Surman and Simpson in.  (Leaves Shaqiri in and Targett in) and £0.3m in the bank OR

Pelle Debruyne and Targett out for Aguero Surman and Monreal/Bellerin in (Unfortunately leaves Shaqiri and Payet insitu and no Arsenal defender) and £0.3m in the bank.

Both options leave only a small amount in the bank but if I want to only take a 4 point hit I have to do it after GW13 which means price movements could end it.  Neither are ideal so I’m still cogitating.

It’s also worth remembering that with Pelle home to Stoke in GW13 thats a good fixture so no reason to really rush Aguero back

Here’s the before and 2 potential after teams:

Before:

fpl..gw13beforeAguero

After Pelle Payet and Richards out for Aguero Surman and Simpson in.

fpl..gw13afterAguero1

After 2:  Pelle Debruyne and Targett out for Aguero Surman and Monreal/Bellerin in

fpl..gw13afterAguero2

I hope that gives you some food for thought
