FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE GAMEWEEK 13 TIPS – THE BANDWAGONS AND SINKING SHIPS

bandwagons and sinking ships, Fantasy Premier League

Here’s our fantasy premier league gameweek 13 tips article where we outline the most transferred in players so far in the gameweek (the bandwagons) and the most transferred out (the sinking ships). There’s a table of stats on each as well as some narrative on their prospects and their next 6 fixtures

FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE GAMEWEEK 13 TIPS – THE BANDWAGONS AND SINKING SHIPS

THE BANDWAGONS

These are the 5 most transferred in players so far in the gameweek.  I was concerned my stats table had become a little cluttered and unwieldy and hard to read so I’ve replaced it with a simplified version.  The headings are self explanatory.  The fixt ease column shows the easeiness ranking of the next 6/3 fixtures.  Go to this link for the full article on fixt ease.

CAPOUE

The Watford player was everyones favourite cheapie midfielder after he got off to a quite frankly unsustainable start this season.  His goal against Leicester was his first return in the last 7 games.  He also has absolutely no underlying stats to hope that he can continue returning.  However all that is a little irrelevant to some extent.  The real question is whether he is a 4th or a 5th benchwarming midfielder.  If you think he’s only a 5th, is he worth the £0.5m more than say Fletcher or De Roon.  Is he a credible 4th midfielder?  I personally don’t think he has the basic stats or underlying shooting or creating chances stats to be one.  He does have a good next fixture at least

Next 6 fixtures:

Stoke (H)
West Brom (A)
Everton (H)
Man City (A)
Sunderland (A)
Crystal Palace (H)

DEFOE

The Sunderland striker returned a goal and assist for his 2nd consecutive double digit FPL point haul so not surprising he’s in the bandwagon category.  His underlying stats are pretty good too.  Away to Liverpool seems a strange entry point for me though.  They may have their issues in defence but it’s still not the easiest of fixtures.  The next 2 after that are better.

Liverpool (A)
Leicester (H)
Swansea (A)
Chelsea (H)
Watford (H)
Man Utd (A)

ANICHEBE

To find a £4.5m striker who plays is rare.  It couldn’t have come at a better time with the plethora of midfield options available.  However to find a striker at that price who can terrorise defences like the Sunderland forward did to an admittedly, pretty easily scared Hull defence is another thing.  He’s only had 2 starts so it’s difficult to assess his gametime prospects.  It’s also worth remembering his historical scoring record isn’t great.  The question is can a relegation threatened team carry 2 strikers neither of which look particularly good at providing some defensive involvement to help out the midfield.  The Liverpool game, if he starts, will at least give some comfort that 2 strikers is feasible going forward.  It’s one thing to play 2 strikers against Bournemouth and Hull it’s another at Anfield

Liverpool (A)
Leicester (H)
Swansea (A)
Chelsea (H)
Watford (H)
Man Utd (A)

COUTINHO

There aren’t many better entry points to buying a player than home to Sunderland.  Liverpool have battered far better defences than this.  Ignore the Southampton 0-0 draw,  Liverpool should have won comfortably.  Southampton are one of the best defensive units too.  Sunderland are one of the worst and they will have their first choice CB Djilobodji suspended.  You should have minimum 1 of Coutinho or Firmino.  Both have been fantastic. Coutinho is the creative one with set piece responsibility.  Firmino is the striker false 9 with more scoring potential in my view.

Sunderland (H)
Bournemouth (A)
West Ham (H)
Middlesbrough (A)
Everton (A)
Stoke (H)

COSTA

Another game another goal for the Chelsea striker who is this years Mr Consistency having returned a goal or assist in 10 of his 12 games this season.  Good underlying stats show this is no fluke either.  Some tricky fixtures next but the Chelsea machine is really on a roll.

Spurs (H)
Man City (A)
West Brom (H)
Sunderland (A)
Crystal Palace (A)
Bournemouth (H)

THE SINKING SHIPS

These are the 5 most transferred out players so far in the gameweek.  As I said in the bandwagons section, I was concerned my stats table had become a little cluttered and unwieldy and hard to read so I’ve replaced it with a simplified version.  The headings are self explanatory.  The fixt ease column shows the easeiness ranking of the next 6/3 fixtures.  Go to this link for the full article

ALLEN

The stoke midfielder is suspended for 1 game after reaching 5 yellow cards, has blanked in his last 2 and has also been shifted back into the midfield 2 of 4-2-3-1 instead of the CAM position he has recently played.  Add this to drop off of recently good underlying stats and no history of scoring and you’ve got the perfect recipe for mass transfers out.

Watford (A)
Burnley (H)
Arsenal (A)
Southampton (H)
Leicester (H)
Liverpool (A)

BELLERIN

Injured until GW15.  The Arsenal RB is a pretty expensive hold if you’re not planning on selling.  £5.0m Jenkinson appears the likely replacement having started at Man Utd in GW12

Bournemouth (H)
West Ham (A)
Stoke (H)
Everton (A)
Man City (A)
West Brom (H)

LUKAKU

It doesn’t matter that the Everton striker has a consistent returner this season and that he has very good underlying stats to back it up over the season. However if you don’t return for 2 games (especially when one of them is Swansea at home) and your underlying stats in those recent games drop off then you will see transfers out.  It doesn’t help that the next 2 fixtures aren’t bad exit points

Southampton (A)
Man Utd (H)
Watford (A)
Arsenal (H)
Liverpool (H)
Leicester (A)

GUNDOGAN

Pep really does mean business with rotation.  Aguero and De Bruyne may have started but 2 of the more replaceable players in Stones and CM Gundogan were rested.  Gundogan’s prospects won’t have been helped by the 2 goals scored by Yaya Toure either who is pretty much a direct replacement.  No underlying stats to justify the recent returns but he did look like he had the ability to ghost into forward positions.  It’s now about gametime risk.  To me though the natural point to exit him is against Chelsea in GW14 not Burnley in GW13  but that may depend on your team priorities

Burnley (A)
Chelsea (H)
Leicester (A)
Watford (H)
Arsenal (H)
Hull (A)

LALLANA

The Liverpool midfielder is injured until GW14. The issue is a bit more complex because in Klopps high energy pressing team you need 100% fitness so any return time frame has to be with risk.  He will be a hard player to hold with Sunderland next.  Wijnaldum will probably be the replacement but considering the next fixture Firmino or Coutinho should be your replacement target.

Sunderland (H)
Bournemouth (A)
West Ham (H)
Middlesbrough (A)
Everton (A)
Stoke (H)
