Fantasy Premier League

Here’s the fantasy premier league gameweek 15 FFGeek team.  As usual we talk through the transfers and related dilemmas plus the team selection issues and lastly the captain choice

fantasy premier league gameweek 15 – the FFGeek team

Firstly here’s the team.  Incredibly another 4 point hit week. The 3rd consecutive week?

The transfers were as follows:

Sanchez out – Firmino in

Richards out – Mertesacker in

The transfers

Firstly Sanchez was always going to go after his hamstring injury.  My preferred transfer was going to be Coutinho which is why I held out to see if he was going to be fit.  However today it became apparent that it’s unlikely he will be fit so that rules that transfer out.

So that bought into play a number of possibilities.  The return of De Bruyne was certainly a possibility.  However I just took a 4 point hit to get him out so emotionally that was always going to be difficult.  Mane was certainly a possibilty facing Villa next.  The fixtures weren’t ideal though so that put him to one side.  Barkley was also considered but 2 Everton attacking players is probably enough coverage.  Hazard was a possibilty but with Kane on my radar for next week that would have given me some cash problems.  Eriksen was also in my thoughts but I thought Kane next week was probably enough coverage at the moment.  I even considered Depay for the fixtures but the unpredicatability of selection by LVG and the lack of attacking threat of Man Utd put that to one side.  Firmino was also considered.  Liverpool coverage given some of their displays and the fixtures was enticing although gametime and 90 minutes wise he is a risk.  KDB and Eriksen and Mane are probably the safe choices but in the end I took the gamble and went for Firmino.  He didn’t play midweek and with Coutinho likely to be out he should play a prominent role against the hapless Newcastle.  He also has some good fixtures after that.

I then thought about taking Aguero out for Kane who is my next week target at home to Newcastle but Aguero’s expected back next week and is of such quality I decided to leave him in.  That left me with a doubtful Richards, a Targett out of the team and  Surman away to Chelsea likely to get 1 point at the most.  So I decided that it was time with Arsenal home to Sunderland to put an Arsenal defender into the team.  I never like taking a 4 pointer for a defender but given the weak bench and injuries plus the great odds of a clean sheet it seemed worth the gamble.  Bellerin was probably my favourite but even taking Richards out he left only £0.1m in the bank if I was to replace Vardy with Kane with Kane likely to rise in price tonight.  So I went for the more gametime risk option of Mertesacker as he’s £0.6m cheaper.  That gives me cash much more latitude.

The 4 elite defenders is  bit of a strange one given my preference for 3-4-3 but Moreno was only £4.7m and Mertyesacker £5.3m so in the context of the best defences they’re hardly that expensive.

So my differentials vs high ownership players in the top 10k become Aguero vs Kane (lost that one this week) and Deulofeu vs Barkley and Firmino vs maybe KDB now that Sanchez is gone?  So big gambles I would rather not have as I’m not sure I’ll be winning.  Last weeks 100k move up in rankings show how valuable defence can be though and I feel stronger for that.

Team selection

Aguero seems definitely out but I put him in the team as if there’s some miracle and he plays I couldn’t forgive myself for putting him on the bench.  So with Targett out of the team and Richards doubtful and away to Southampton plus a benchwarmer only of Surman the only choice was which of the now 4 elite defenders I have on the bench.  Although it’s a bit of a false bench with Aguero injured.  I went against my own rankings and went with the 3 strongest defences of Man Utd, Man City and Arsenal over Liverpool.  It’s a bit of a theoreticall debate though with Aguero injured.

Captain choice

I haven’t done a captain article as yet but I’ve gone with the main sites narrow poll leader of Ozil with Lukaku 2nd.  A captain article will follow tomorrow

Thats it.  Hope you have good fortune with your transfers
